That's 6 hours from now for everyone not familiar with CEST.

Will he tun mountains into elementals like is hammer does?
  • #4
If course not, why should he replicate the ability?

Two possibilities are giving first strike to all other creatures, or firebreathing - the latter seems more unlikely, though, just as double strike.

I can't imagine anti-synergy with his Hammer is going to happen.

No, but from the looks of it, each weapon synergizes with each god in some way.

Thassa + Bident helps trigger the bident thrugh Thassa's activated ability.

Nylea + Bow give the super-powered combo of Deathtouch+trample to all of your other creatures.

Heliod makes vigilant tokens, so we'll see how his spear feed into that.

Porphoros's hammer makes 3/3 golems, gives creatures haste, and sacrafices lands. The synergy could be in any of those data points (Giving other creatures first strike, having a hellrider attack trigger, or doing something with sacraficed lands.)

I'd rather he just turn mountains into damage, but I suppose a repeatable Fireblast would be too much to ask for.

With first strike, probably. That is what spears do.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

    Quote from photodyer »
What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.

He's supposed to be an artificer remember. I don't think we're going to see any firebreathing with him.

Since each of the God's and their items abilities that we know of have tied into the planeswalker's guide here is Purphoros'
    From the planeswalker's guide
Domains: Purphoros is the god of the forge, the restless earth, and fire. He rules the raw creative force of heat and energy that fills the souls of sentient beings. His energy emerges as chaos, something to be harnessed and shaped by labor and passion. For this reason, Purphoros is also the god of artisans, of obsession, and of the cycle of creation and destruction.

Signature item: Purphoros wields Akmon, a large hammer whose head slightly resembles an anvil. A blow from Akmon can render the earth molten, and when it strikes metal, each spark becomes a new enchantment, some of which even take on life.

Personality: To sit in the presence of Purphoros is to be inspired. He forges the most ornate and delicate items only to dash them into flame and start again. He is reasonable yet ultimately follows no rules save his own creative and destructive impulses. Sometimes, this can mean covering a whole area with lava to make way for something new. His main flaw is that of frustration, of feeling limited and constrained. He is forever pushing against the barriers of mortal imagination, sensing that there is much more to express. This can cause him to plummet into despondency and then lash out at the world with raw destruction.

Bolded the part about his hammer where the elemental making ability came from. For him I could definitely see either a ritual based or a random chance effect being his activated. Possibly even nonbasic land destruction/single target bloodmoon effect as from the cover with lava line and lashing out at the world with pure destruction.

If I have this right, that means 5 pm central time. I'm very excited to see this one in particular. I doubt he'll have the same ability as his Hammer, so no more Golems. 2R for the ability is intriguing.. Considering we had 3G for +2/+2 I'm not getting my hopes up for three mana. Fingers crossed it isn't a simple ping (1 damage).

Red has long been behind white when it comes to artifacts and I feel like it should get some artifact love. I mean "forge," right?

    Check out some good music!

I hope his is like Cloud Key. That would be epic, then you can cast loads of enchantments/artifacts.
  • #13
He's going to turn creatures into mountains.

    2R to do something? Bueno.

Also, can we just assume the first "?" is indestructible?
  • #15

The only thing that i can say you is that obviously it's indestructible... Wink

First one should be indestructible, the second will be loses creature if devotion is less than 5 which leaves his static and his activated ability.

I think it's safe to assume the 1st two are Indestructible and the "Devotion clause" :>
  • #19
Well, the second line is quite obviously the one about needing Devotion 5 to be a creature...
  • #20
    ? = Indestructible

? = As long as your devotion to red is less than 5 ~ etc. . .

? = Creatures you control get +2/+0 (and have first strike maybe? Mountainwalk?).

2R: Target mountain becomes a 3/3 elemental enchantment creature with haste.

    Power 4/4
    Casting Cost 3R

"Don't let him lead the soldiers, but by all means let him lead the way."

2R: Deals 1 damage to each creature and each player? Seems a bit simple, but probably most likely.
  • #22
I think his static ability will be Hellrider. And the activated ability could be multi-firebreathing aka Moonveil Dragon. That would work very well with the haste his hammer provides and the creatures it makes.

    OOOH, I like this.

"Whenever a creature you control attacks it deals 1 damage to the defending player."

2R: Creatures you control get +1/0 until the end of the turn.

But can we have it at 2R or 3R cc please? Not likely Frown

"Don't let him lead the soldiers, but by all means let him lead the way."

Hmm I wonder if I just saw the pattern in all this.

    Thassa CMC = 3 = Jace Belern CMC = 3
    Nylea/Heliod CMC = 4 = Garruk/Ajani CMC(s) = 4

    So theoretically:
    Purforos CMC = 5 = Chandra Nalaar CMC = 5
    Erebros CMC = 5 = Liliana Vess CMC = 5

As of right now 3:5 of the revealed gods so far have the same CMC number as to when the first five walkers were revealed.

I hope he has at least one of the following abilities:

    mana ritual

    threaten effect

    land/artifact destruction

    efficient burn

Since those are the things that define red to me
