Limited fodder. But wow way to be lazy. Baby version of the legendary version? Come on... at least Xarthid Gorgon had a gimmick [not constructed worthy but a flavorful gimmick].

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Then consider that the actual Keepsake Gorgon is strictly better.
This.
I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but such a large rear end, PLUS death touch makes for a rather strong defensive critter. I wouldn't call her a first pick just yet, but if Theros limited does turn out to be slower, her basic stats are fairly strong at least for an uncommon, and monstrousity makes it just a little better. I don't play limited that much, just a few times per set, this keyword at least gives you some options when you're in topdeck mode. 'Great, another land. Well, I'll make her monstrous, kill your scariest guy, and swing.'

Yeah, i like how the defensive nature of this card allows you to survive longer and therefore afford to monstrous her
Whoa. For one more mana and legendary status, you could have Hythonia. For one more mana, you could also have an addition two Monstrous and the ability to destroy all non-Gorgons (including your own).
This is okay for some things, but I'd nevertheless feel iffy about playing this.
You could do it if you made the power creep at about an exponential rate...
This thought process would kill the game off in 3 years I guarantee it. People would feel like their collections were worthless as power creep went off the rails.
Imagine in standard how annoying it would be if the next set was always better bar none then the last one.
Power level? As mentioned, it's playable in limited.
Design? Not really impressed. 3/6 deathtouch is almost identical to 2/5 deathtouch, so it really is a poor choice for the "monstrous" mechanic. Half the point of monstrous is that the creature changes into something else when it "goes off". In this case, you get the trigger (turns a creature to stone) but otherwise the creature can now take 6 damage before dying, instead of 5.
What I don't like about this is that the monstrous value is only 1.
I think what makes monstrous good for memory issues Vs counter generating effects is the number of counters they get. There's a whole chunk so you can easily tell.
I suppose there are little to zero +1/+1 counter generating cards besides monstrous creatures so in limited any +1/+1 counters will be indication enough.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

The only +1/+1 counter-generating cards we've seen outside of Monstrous are the Ordeals, but it should be simple to remember where those counters came from as well. And remembering when you tapped out with seven mana to kill a creature isn't that much to ask either.
I can't help but notice how everyone is judging Theros on how it works in Limited as if thats what is important. Surely each set should cater to every format and each card should be at least semi-playable in every format? Or is that too hard?
No. That's just literally not possible. Each card can't be limited and EDH and standard and Legacy and modern playable.
Each card can't even be both limited and standard playable.
But the art is interesting. "Oooh, wook at dat wittle face."
Actually, When you compare her to Hythonia, it's super sad D:
I can just see her, bringing that head home, and putting it on top of the other two she has, and then sitting on them facing adjacent to a picture of Hythonia on her stone throne, covered in hearts, sighing to herself, "Someday...."

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

The name is pretty uninspired and gimmicky.

Thanks so much! I thought a very vivid description would help people conceive of it better.

I don't understand how 1/4 of the members on this site claim to be in the top 2% for IQ when only .0001% of the members can correctly evaluate a card.
