WTF
5 pages and not one mention of powercreep? In limited, he's a nobrainer first pick In standard, he's going in hexproof and every aggro deck. In modern, he's going in hatebears. In legacy, he's going in WW and zoo. In commander, he's replacing every elite vanguard.
Jesus this guy is a one drop with two power, supports two very relevant archetypes, protection from a variety of colors, good hate, and no drawback. How much powercreep is too much?!!?
This is surely one of the top 10 if not top 5 best 1 drop creatures printed.
(DRS, Delver, Goblin Guide, Nimble Mongoose, Exalted Hierarch, Birds of Paradise, Mother of Runes, Goblin Lackey, Grim Lavamancer, Soldier of the Pantheon, Wild Nacatl, Kird Ape)
he has protection from detention sphere, abrupt decay, lightning helix, izzet charm, azorium charm, dimir charm, knight of the reliquary, vindicate, putrefy, mortify, dreadbore and tons of more multicolored creatures.
Ok, where's welder on this list?
Solid card is solid. I don't know about top 10 - but will definitely see play in standard and probably modern(naya) zoo too.

he will not go in hexproof based on the fact that he can't be enchanted with unflinching courage.

Standard:
Nothing Modern:
Cruel Control, UR Delver, RUG midrange, Akroma's Elfmorial EDH:
Animar, Chainer, Derevi the Stonehewer Mystic, Nekusar
It's a power creeped 1 drop, but all in all he's not a ridiculous power creeped creature or super 1 drop like some are making him out to be. He's just a solid 2/1 with a sometimes relevant ability.
He's probably not even the best white 1 drop in modern let alone near the top of all colors. Militant, Serra Ascendent, Martyr, and Lynx are probably better. Militant definitely is in Modern.

2/1s for 1 are unexciting in most Limited environments. It's a pretty sad pack that has you first-picking this guy, aside from rare drafting reasons.
This guy goes into every deck in every format that plays Savannah Lions. But historically, it has not often been correct to play Savannah Lions.

On average, Magic players are worse at new card evaluation than almost every other skill, except perhaps sideboarding.

Especially what looks to be a slower format where a 2/1 gets outclassed real fast.
Do you guys think this will be the new Champion of Parish?
1 Drop rare at around $6+?
It will be a 2 dollar card when people realize that it's not amazing. Champion could grow and stay relevant as board state advanced.
Sometimes it's protection will be relevant, sometimes it will be a useless 2/1 that gets blocked easily.
Maybe if white weenie was a thing, but it's not and probably won't be so, yeah.
It dodges a lot of multi-colored removal and blocks Voice like a boss. Don't know if this will be mainboard though. Kinda like a weird Kor Firewalker. Amazing in those match ups or just a bear.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
He's probably not even the best white 1 drop in modern let alone near the top of all colors. Militant, Serra Ascendent, Martyr, and Lynx are probably better. Militant definitely is in Modern.
Militant is not better in modern, militant is niche vs Past in Flames/Snapcaster Decks - this card has protection vs A HUGE part of the modern meta game.
and serra ascendat? lol
Dodging removal is irrelevant. Only bad opponents are wasting Abrupt Decays and Terminates on Militant anyway. They need the removal for real threats (Smiter, Mindscensor, Liege). Therefore, the more relevant ability in Modern is the one that helps with Snapcaster.
efficient beater is efficient. Meaning I will play it if im playing an aggressive deck with white. Only gets better with anthem effects or with bestow.
Hyberbole much? Sure there's a list of 20 good cards that can't touch this, but there are dozens more against which it's a vanilla 2/1 for 1. It's still good, but depending on the meta I'm not sure it's any better than Dryad Militant which sees play but wouldn't be on anyone's top aggro creatures of all time list.

Because I would seriously use any of the above mentioned cards on a 2/1 instead of just throwing an Omenspeaker out to block who, by the way doesn't even die to this.

decks that run snapcaster just remove the militant and you watered down your deck with it.
SotP does not just dodge removal - he also dodges a lot of modern staple blockers or stalls modern staple creatures.
Just look at any Jund list - Tarmogofy, Liliana of the Veil occasionally and Lightning Bolt are the only answers they have for this while Ajani, Abrupt Decay, Huntmaster, Deathrite Shaman will be ignored by this fella.
it's obvious he doesn't have full protection but he does not need to - he is already an efficient 2/1 1 drop himself and against jund he gains you life on 14 of 36 spells.
Again, if Snapcaster decks are wasting their Bolts (and especially the 2 CMC Helix) on my 1 drop, I fell pretty good since tbats one less removal spell for the cards that matter. They Will ignore this card because he doesn't matter. He's just a 2/1 with a little life gain in Modern because no one wants to remove him. As you already mentioned, Militant actually eats a removal spell in the match you played him in.
A 2/1 body for 1 mana is not something to scoff at. They used to be a big deal. Now we get a 2/1 with pro multicolor and many people are unimpressed.
The small amount of life gain that this creature may add is like a small treat on the side of the vanilla ice cream, because this sundae refuses to have those rainbow sprinkles.
The life gain is yet a perk, but the pro-multicolor is pretty relevant to standard. It also gives a small mana answer to things like VoR or Fleecemane (if that becomes a thing) or even the tokens to Xenagos. Sure it isn't a full answer to all of those things, but it also can serve as an early beater while maintaining the human creature type, which deserves mentioning nowadays.
While the card is not mind-blowing, it is certainly solid and will see some play in limited (semi-taking care of some of those multicolored bombs), standard, commander, cubes, casual, and even possibly modern.
What stops this guy from going into a modern human deck with Champion of the Parish? Nothing. In fact they have synergy as this guy has the 2 most important white subtypes human and soldier.
You're right, he will slide right into that dominant WW modern deck.
...
Oh, wait...
Dryad Militant was better in this standard than SotP will be in the next standard, and even that saw little to no play.

Well for one, that deck doesnt exist in any competitive setting. Its not putting results up anywhere so who cares. At this point its all just theorycraft. There isn't a deck that actually wants this card.
Solid beater is solid. Sooo many 2/x creatures for one mana these days. I do find myself amused at how good this is versus cackler, militant, voice, reckoner, smiter, etc.

Vanilla 2/1 for 1? There are how many 2/1s for 1?
New to Commander? Read the Above article.

Between this and the B one from yesterday, we're getting two playable 2-power 1-drops.
