Yeah, we got a lot of strong Limited cards tonight. Nothing wrong with that. I'm very very happy to see that they're really--and I mean really--pushing Scry in this set. There are also zero to very few flavor letdowns. Every card makes sense conceptually, has great art and does something interesting or flavorful. So I'm judging this set a huge success regardless of the power level of cards spoiled on the first night of official spoilers.
When I read the second ability of hundred handed one I nearly did a spit take. That made me laugh so very much. I love it, the flavor is awesome and hilarious. It's also a cool card in general.
I also giggled when I saw that MaRo's article series is going to have the same name as Luminum's forum tag. Are you sure you aren't Mark Rosewater luminum?

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
They seriously can't just call it a Hekatonkheires?(eck-ah-ton-he*soft palette hiss* rays) I mean, they were pretty important in Greek Legends because they were Chronos' Jailors, well, more accurately the Guardians of Tartarus.
Well omenspeaker will 100% see play (probably as a 4-of) in u control decks.
Gods willing will see play in w/x creature decks that aren't all-in on white creatures (obviously brave the elements is better if you are all-in on white).
Phalanx leader is pretty good for white weenie decks, not sure if he'll actually make the cut though since he's a 1/1 for 2.
Unfortunately I doubt that heliod sees play. White weenie will want to be winning turn 4-6 most likely and heliod is alittle too slow for that. I can't think of any other deck that would really want him.
I was hoping for a rare merfolk to be spoiled, but the common one really isn't that bad. However heroic will be hard to use in blue decks, so obviously won't see play in standard, but this gives me hope for the playable merfolk.
And hundred-handed one is an awsome flavor win, I definitely looked twice and laughed when i saw him.
All in all, I was expecting more playable cards to be spoiled tonight.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
Melek, Izzet Paragon
Oona, Queen of the Fae
Bruna, Light of Alabaster
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rhys the Redeemed
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Sen Triplets
The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW

I would imagine a lot of arguments around kitchen tables and tournament tables about the proper pronunciation. I mean, people still argue about the proper way to say Avacyn, of all names.

People would not be able to pronounce that.
I find it weird that Heliod produces tokens that don't have square stats. It bothers me.
I kind of have to agree. I really try not to judge sets so early, but I'm getting worried. Usually all of the cards that really get me excited are spoiled up front, but so far, there's only two or three cards in this set that have gotten me moderately excited.
I really love the idea of a Greek Mythology set, but so far Theros just isn't doing it for me. The Gods are definitely...something, but they're not really giving me the "MUST HAVE NOW" vibe. And we're getting a lot of limited filler/junk stuff up front, too.

Seriously, this batch of previews is a pretty damned big let down. Especially considering one of the big poster childs for the set, Heliod, is a dud.

Well, among the many problems with Kamigawa was that they directly referenced Shinto stuff by name in that sort of manner. This made it difficult for people not already acquainted with Japanese mythology to understand what the card was supposed to represent, made it hard for people to remember many of the Japanese names of cards, and even to pronounce them.
This approach is better, I believe.

Anyone else find this set amazingly bomby as far as limited goes, flavorful but super super slow? There is no great aggressive card so far. The best we can do is a 1/1 that makes more 1/1s with more cards. Nothing like a hellrider, or ash zealot or strangeroot geist.
Going to be a slow standard at this rate. I do think the white God could be playable with really strong defensive two-way creatures like Boros reckoner.
Artisan of Forms is a cool idea but...doesn't her name change when she copies a creature, then she gains "this ability" and it still refers to the name "Artisan of Forms"? Wouldn't that mean nothing happens because she is no longer referencing her new name? shouldn't there be a qualifier that says "gains this ability except it replaces "Artisan of Forms" with the copied creature's name? Or am i missing something?
EDIT: Or it should say "copy of target creature except its name is still Artisan of Forms" or something like that.

Whenever a card mentions a name, it is referring to "this object". Its the reason two Vigors protect each other.
EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.

Anytime a card references it's own name it means the same thing as "this card" as for as the rules are concerned. Name changes aren't necessary. It's why Lazav works.
Heliod seems ok
if his CMC was 3 then he would be good
At 4 he is a bomb in draft/limited
If he gets to be standard playable it will be because of his last ability ( as a manasink play 4 for a 2/1 with flash is way good :).
Maybe hin and Ajani's Chosen can play well in standard together

No. It already pretty much works that way. Whenever something is cloned you replace all instances of "card name" in the rules text with the name of the card.
Artisan of Forms and Phalanx Leader are pretty cool.
My main problem with Theros so far is that it doesn't seem like it is made for Modern. There are some good EDH cards and some good Standard cards, but nothing that could really shine in Modern.
Edit: Also, Bestow and Monstrosity are really falling flat for me.
I also giggled when I saw that MaRo's article series is going to have the same name as Luminum's forum tag. Are you sure you aren't Mark Rosewater luminum?
I also smiled. There are only so many puns to go around, I'll let him have this one.
