I wouldn't run this card in any deck that isn't mono-black big mana. Just way too mana intensive. That said, she could be a pretty cool way to wipe in MBC... if not a little obvious.
MBC is getting a raise, that is for sure. This is the kind of over the top effect to replace grisselbrand with, and with a splash here and there(and lili of the dark realms backing you up) you can get all kinds of nasty effects pretty easily. I'm personally excited at the prospects of this next standard season.
Also, holy **** does she really have a throne made out of the people she's killed? That's awesome.
she does seem mythic to me, and to be honest I'm glad to see this card at mythic. For those of you complaining about dollar mythics, take a look at voice of resurgence and tell me more about how mythics should be staples instead of janky creatures with cool, flavorful abilities
I still think it's funny how like, one third of the Gorgons in Magic are Legendary. Not exactly, but pretty close.
Anyway, I love weird, creative tribal like this. I just wish she had Green like the other Gorgon in the set, for...EDH commander purposes...But oh well, she'd be fun in a Damia deck! Too bad I only have like, one other Gorgon. Still, at least...her ability is very Black, so it, makes sense she's not part Green.
If you have the mana to pay to make her monstrous, you can sacrifice her and cast her again from the command zone.
Or reanimate her with the billion ways black has to bring the dead from the graveyard.

OMG, I was joking yesterday about how I hope the art used for this was on a legendary gorgon, and I got my wish! She's a little expensive, but my god I don't care. I love her.

A huge letdown, but thats what most cards with good art, let alone most mono B legends are by default. 8 mana to destroy things? yeah i pay 2 and boros charm my dudes.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Don't get me wrong, I like her, but here's the first (?) 1$ mythic of the set...
Anyone remember Necropolis Regent? That card was strongly pushed and over the top in my opinion, but still no one played it... It's now at like 0.75$, and it's even a card that has an immediate board impact if you play it!
Good. Mythics are not supposed to be voices of resurgence, they are supposed to be like this
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
For me, as a Casual player who made 15 decks that aren't meant to create "homebrew meta" where they're balanced when taking in account the each other deck (for example if it's possible within colors, I put answers to enchantments/artifacts into them etc) I adore it.
It's not fast board whipe, gives you a time to answer and afterwards doesn't leave some extremely sick beatstick that also has to be answered. It's powerful in right deck and circumstances but it isn't godlike. That's why I love it, you all hate it so I will pay 3$ for it and be utterly happy as it's flavour is great!

Hey, I'm not about to complain, all the easier to get for EDH. (And man does she do some work in Jarad. She's good enough that she is the absolute biggest removal target in the entire deck aside from Jarad and maybe Xathrid Demon, and the deck has a LOT of fat dudes that she competes with.)

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Seems like a good card to me. Sure it's not the Standard/Modern Conpetitive Killing Machine that most players would like to see, but I think that it does the trick for being a legendary mythic. Honestly I would have liked to have seen it cost 5 mana for a 5/5 though; it might have seen fringe standard play just for having the lower cost. The monstrous ability is a little expensive but then again, all of them are, and with powerful effects.
Additionally I was kind of hoping for Regenerate seeing as how Wizards really talked up the Gorgons being able to regenerate and having healing wisdom and everlasting life, but I guess I can't have it all. Hopefully on another good gorgon then...
I want as much support for Damia as possible. This'll do.

you can generally tell the easiest road to victory by how many players congregate on it; and the road of counterspells/control has been the freeway of choice in magic for quite some time.

What I find offensive is not that Wizards is endeavoring to make the game more accessible, but the attitudes of elitists who act as though no one of any age should show their face in the Magic public without first having mastery over the complexities of the game.
Compared to other monstrous creatures, her initial p/t is certainly lacking when her mana cost is concerned. She's not really something I'd look forward to pull.
Not Tibalt bad, but like, if I was going to make a gorgon edh, I'd get Visara the dreadful as my commander instead of this.
know what would have made this card way more flavorful?

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Heh, Gorgon tribal. It's now a thing. Only EDH, but possible now.
How many Gorgons are there, and how many would you run? As most, if not all Gorgons, cost 5 or more mana, what would your deck be doing for the first few turns?
Discounting MU and Changelings, aren't there only 10 or even fewer Gorgons?
I kind of wish she dealt 1 damage to each non-gorgon creature instead so as to take advantage of her deathtouch.
That's actually pretty clever, given the interaction between the abilities.
However, there are creatures with protection from black, creatures, legends, etc. and all other things that prevent damage (e.g., Samite Healer, the Phantoms, Daunting Defender), which would make this card considerably worse if it didn't outright destroy creatures but instead dealt damage.
Because a 4/6 deathtouch creature totally doesn't impact the board...
I think he meant no immediate board impact. She lands but can't attack with her right away, she doesn't benefit your other creatures, and doesn't she do anything else (except make your opponent not want to attack into her). She doesn't have immediate impact or built-in resilience (hexproof, regeneration), but she is a must-kill ticking time bomb.
A creature on the board that dissuades your opponents from attacking you is immediate board impact.
Agreed.
Okay; so here is my beef with this card versus Polukranos. They're almost doing the same thing. If you're trying to kill a bunch of dudes with Polukranos you'll end up spending 6+ mana on his ability anyway. Additionally, targeting only a few creatures can and likely will get Polukranos killed in the process. So now my question is, why did they make this card so much better, and yet Polukranos is a mythic? I know it's a 5/5 for 4 mana. That alone is good, but not Mythic. This Gorgon, which will always survive its own ability under normal circumstances, is pretty much what Polukranos is trying to do. I also understand one is green and one is black so they occupy different roles due to color. But yet, the one completely outclasses the other.
My question is, why does Polukranos even exist? It should have been a rare when in comparison to Hythonia. They should have made it do something completely different, or be able to "fight" multiple creatures (despite what the article today on mtg daily states, they could have made it work.) Or do something completely different, like have an acidic slime ability for each counter added. I'm a little disappointed with the hydra after seeing this.

Crypt Ghast on turn 3 w/ a mana accelerant makes this drop on turn 4 w/ board wipe on 5 with 7 to your opponents face. Not awful imho.
Just seems... like its lacking that certain mythic flavor. Eh. Color me disappointed.
