I think the general idea is that when it becomes monstrous it wipes out the opposing creatures, thus not needing trample to get through.
I actually like the Monstrous mechanic on Poluky, it adds a bit more though to mono green - such as what value of X gives the most bang for my buck without killing this now monstrous dude. He basically serves as a Wrath effect with the possibility of surviving and dealing "monstrous" amounts of combat damage to a player.
Big green monsters should have trample exactly as much as sphinxes should have flying. It makes the game work, and that's more important that making one of the most common keywords "feel special."
Yeah but he costs only 2GG, it's not like his a finisher or a really 'big green' creature. His suited for green decks that play dozen or other creatures and they all beat face together.
I dunno, feels really weird that players actually think a 4 cmc, 5/5 creature with trample and a upside should be printed.

Advent of the wurm barely sees play, although it likely will see more in Theros.
If you're going to hate on power cards, at least have some idea of what actually sees play.
Advent is an incredibly powerful card. The fact that people are playing Restoration Angel at the moment, which is an even more powerful and splashable card that fills the same role as Advent, doesn't make Advent any less ridiculously good.

Well, it sort of does...
A card is only as good as the decks it gets played in.
I'm not saying advent isn't a good card. It is. But it's an awkward card in that it doesn't really do anything other than be a fantastic beater, and if there's one thing that magic hasn't needed more of lately, it's beaters.
Advent is a fantastic card in a vacuum. In a world where you actually need to play it in a deck, it is less good because it's in a pretty awkward spot.

Oh, I'm not hating on it. I run x4 of them myself. I was just being sarcastic. The post I replied too was about people wanting a 5/5 for 4 mana with trample and an upside. That's why I brought up Advent. It's basically just that, but people want another thing similar to it.

You would think Pocahontus would be a bit better than those and his ability is still pretty crap I would take the 5/5 that can put 5 counters on another creature onces it dies rather than hope and pray my 7/7 mythic will survive to actually to damage to the opponent.
seriously 6 mana for 5 +1/+1 counters or 7 mana for 2 +1/+1 counters and 2 damage yeah ....

Pocahontus?
Yeah, the fact it's Mythic and Legendary makes it a bit of a disappointment. Still playable, but it doesn't feel like something that eats worlds. Of course, he might be a Legendary because he's part of the lore. In which case, his less than stellar stats can be explained.

Advent is a fantastic card in a vacuum. In a world where you actually need to play it in a deck, it is less good because it's in a pretty awkward spot.
Delver of Secrets sees no play in standard and... Do you honestly think they should print cards stronger then it ? The goes for Deathrites Shaman.
Advent doesn't see play because of Thragtusk, the same way Thragtusk (and thundermaw hellkite) didn't saw play when titans, batterskull and wce were around.
Just because a card doesn't have a home in any constructed format doesn't mean it is bad card and should be upgraded. That's pretty poor way form evaluating cards. Meta game is a huge factor to decide what sees play or not, but cards can't be printed based only on the meta game for a number of reasons.
In short, just because a card is not played in constructed decks doesn't mean a stronger version of it should be made. A 5/5 for 2GG with a upside is objectively strong, there's a number of standard seasons that this card would do well. For example, if standard had something along the lines of Dark Confidant, his xxG would be a extremely useful.
Advent is an incredibly powerful card. The fact that people are playing Restoration Angel at the moment, which is an even more powerful and splashable card that fills the same role as Advent, doesn't make Advent any less ridiculously good.
Advent is going to see more play once Restoration is gone.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but i just realized that Anax and Cymede's spell ability isnt limited to just instants and sorceries. Sorry if im behind the ball on this one, just thought it'd be awesome with cheap auras like madcap skills and ethereal armor. Im excited about this block big time!
A shameless reminder I am updating my blog later so check out what cards I think are decent enough for a deck and what just don't make the cut
Edit: Decks are up while some cards are likely to change the more games I play the overall deck is there. Bringing back Order of pulporos each turn only to sack it at combat phase with Sun Titan is a joy and turn 2 Dues of Calamity due to a orcish lumberjack is GG for most of the games so far

Has anyone heard of any delay/allocation issues on this? My LGS didn't get any.
My brother got one at Wal-Mart this morning and they had a good number in stock.
The decks play well against each other but if one player stumbles on mana and the other doesn't the game threatens to end quickly because both sides have some very powerful cards once you hit 5-6-7 mana.
However, the Heroes deck seems a little more resilient to mana screw since it has Condemn (2 I think!) and also Winds of Rath. Also, Anax and Cymede is close to being a bomb and plays much stronger than some of the other three drops. Especially since Monsters is based on Bloodthirst at every almost every casting cost. Leading to situations where you play unthirsted Blood Ogre to try and get bloodthirst the next turn for Gorehorn Minotaurs (and then the GG3 Ghor-Clan guy).
(the links don't show you the new art, but I like using card links)
I love it when previously MTGO exclusive new art gets printed on actual, obtainable, cards!
WAIT, hold on. The Duel Deck is already on the Gatherer...so, this is probably already known, oops. Also, depending on your autocard settings, those links might take you to the Gatherer? I think? I don't remember how that works.

The art on Orcish Lumberjack is all wrong in my opinion. Doesn't look at all like a 1/1 and, honestly, the original art is close to iconic.

Lots of cards have power and toughness that make me go "What!?" though. And...as a Warcraft 3 fan, I gotta say this:
original art = Goblin Shredder
new art = Peon!?
If you think of him as a Peon, being 1/1 makes more sense...
Well, anyway, Orcish Lumberjack still has that original art, even with a modern border (thanks to Coldsnap decks!) So you can still use that one...But yeah, the old art is...awesome, for lack of a better word.
ONE MORE THING. I know it probably means nothing, but a serious looking art for an Orc gives me some hope they'll return. They were often...almost depicted to be even more pitiful and awful than Goblins, and that's...a little sad. Oh, I doubt it really means anything. It's not like next block will have Orcs...
Got them and played a couple of games through the weekend. These are one of the better DD play-wise. Many possible interactions, the Monsters deck feels stronger overall, but the final score from seven games was just 4-3 for Monsters.
Anax and Cymede are a powerhouse, especially with a larger army, but thanks to first strike & vigilance, they can hold their ground by themselves pretty well.
I finally went and looked up the lists... And I'm pretty disappointed. I'm not pulled in at all by the theme. I've been pushing man vs monsters for a while...but with man being a human themed white/x deck and monsters being a black undead themed deck (not some incredibly bland g/r beater deck).
This deck should've been made during innistrad imo. There were a lot of really neat interactions to be had there. I didn't dig too deep here, but this idea just doesn't do it for me. The 'monsters' feel more wild beast than evil monster, which I was hoping for. To be honest I haven't been impressed by Theros in general though (theme and specific clunky mechanics...artifact enchantment creature gods? :/)... I'm just sad they're using up the title man vs monster. There's always living vs undead I guess.
