This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone (given that this is what they did for RTR/GTC), but we haven't had confirmation previously. On http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Default.aspx we now see the following image:
The quality is really low but upon zooming in the visible card matches up perfectly with the green intro pack rare. (The art is different because it's an alt-art promo, but is still similar.) IMO that's sufficient to consider it confirmed.
Well, that's disappointing. I don't really like any of the Intro pack rares from an EDH standpoint, so I don't really get anything of note from going to the prerelease other than getting to play the cards early, which is still nice.
is it so unforgivable to give players value for attending a prerelease?
The value is that you get to open rares while they are still inflated from hype.
Making one (or two) of the five promos a 'chase' card undermines the structure of the entire event, because then people will want just that one.

Epic fail wizards. So lets get this strait. The rares that are included in the decks for beginner players. where everyone know for sure they are getting it, are the support items for the most entry level tournament. Really..... This is not even a good marketing move. T
First they drop the Mythics, now we just get the bad intro rares...
I wish they would just move to the power iconic uncommons/commons as promos.
Hey wizards, I have hit every prerelease since Avacyn, guess what my favorite promo is? A plains

I'd say letting people choose their packs based on how bomby the rare they know they will get is more detrimental to the event than having them be worth something. Because, you know, my LGS doesn't still have 5+ Dimir and Izzet Prerelease packs sitting on the shelves.
I hate that every sealed event i do outside of a GP is forever going to be a gimmick now.
This is just embarrassing. I think at this point they could give us blank cards and we will accept them as decent promo cards. Much like how Kanye West was able to sell plain white t-shirts for +$100 dollars and people bought them.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.

for RTR and GTC prereleases, I don't think one bomb prerelease promo dominated. For example, Boros was by far the best guild in the GTC prerelease, but not because of the prerelease promo. In fact, if you go by the prerelease promos then the two you mentioned (Dimir and Izzet) were probably the best for there respective prereleases, yet those guilds were significantly worse overall.
For these, I think they're good choices. Obviously I'd rather be handed a money rare, but that's not going to happen. In terms of gameplay, these are good. These 5 are very different from each other, which makes it more interesting to play against. Also, I actually think their power level is pretty even. It depends on how the rest of the set looks and what the speed of the format will be, but with little information it seems like they'd all be good in sealed without being too insane. It wouldn't be fun if the prerelease promo we can play with ends the game on the spot. These are powerful without doing that.
I don't know if by one card we can say the others will be there ( a guy can dream...)
Also if they turn out to be the Intro packs rares then i think people will pick black - blue - white - red - green mostly cause if its like RTR Block then we will have a rare on color of the pack soo thoughtseize...
Because it totally destroyed the value of Emrakul, Hero of Bladehold, Demigod of Revenge, Wurmcoil Engine, Vampire Nocturnus, etc. Jeez.
the problem is that they think the swag they been advertising is enough to make up for the bland pre-release/release promos.
i am still hopping that promo equipment are the reward for completing the quest.
Man I miss the days of halfway decent promos. MTGO always gets sweet promo stuff, yet you play with real cards and you cant get a halfway decent promo at all anymore. Last prerelease promo I was excited for has to have been Wurmcoil Engine.
(and even then there is nothing for people that dont like foils, all i get are promos I have to trade away because the foil still bends no matter what I try)
I'm getting sick of having to "choose my side" at the prerelease. What happened to showing up, cracking some packs, and getting a cool promo? Now I have to decide on a faction not only determined by the strength of that faction, but also by the strength and desirability of an individual card. I was considering going green, but there's no way I want the green promo.
Guess I must just be in the minority who likes playing good Sealed instead of some kind of warped format where you have to choose the right color or be at a disadvantage to the players who did pick the right color.
Also, back on topic, but these promos actually are kind of fun (other than the aforementioned green one). The only disappointing thing is that they're featured in the Intro Pack, so it's not like you're getting a card that will ever be that desirable.
Look at mtgo getting promo Force of Wills and Underground seas, and you should at least feel like wizards doesnt want to give us anything good.
Yeah, those are promos for playing a ton of events, probably equivelant to GP promos, which have been awesome by the way.
And as for those free scavenging oozes they handed out?
Good god whiners. Sorry the free bonus for playing in your prerelease MIGHT not be as good as it was in the past (do we even have confirmation that this is correct?). Honestly, i've been playing prereleases since onsluaght and 90% of the cards ever were totally useless. Get used to it. We just went through a period of a year or two where they all happened to be good.
How much play do you get out of your Malfegor promo? Your Dragon Broodmother promo? How about Ravenous Demon? Moonsilver Spear? I hope your Silent Specter is treating you well!
You guys should be embarassed of how childish you're acting. You're like five-year-olds who are mad because someone else got a little more candy than you.
Maybe people were so excited by the RTR promos that they decided to give everyone a choice again. Sorry wizards does their best to appeal to the 90% of their market that's casual players and not to the people who would complain because they found a dollar on the ground when their friend found five.

So prereleases went from Mythic to Rare to Junk Rares I can get in a intro pack. Lame.
Pretty much. You choose a color and get a prerelease pack with 5 normal boosters, 1 "seeded booster", and a playable promo.
