Sexuality and, to a lesser extent, drunkenness can be red or green, since they could be seen as natural in some cultures.
Dionysis also had the effect of blurring the lines of self and individuality, so that your identity would blend into the community, in a kind of Selesnyan loss-of-self. This is the green aspect of Dionysis that makes me feel strongly about the red-green pairing for the Reveler.
But it's entirely possible that Xenagos isn't a god at all but a legendary satyr. That god image of the satyr just made me connect the two, when there may actually be a satyr god that ISN'T Xenagos.
I also wanted to express that it isn't too far-fetched to imagine a red-green antagonist in a world of Human city-states. Think what someone from the Gruul clans, say Borborygmos, would do to the city of Ravnica if he attained godlike omnipotence. I know they aren't the same, but the analogy is still instructive.
It's the Lorwyn 5. Jace, Chandra and Garruk each have 4 cards while Ajani and Liliana "only" have 3.
Well Ajani has what 7 arts!
3 for vengeant, 2 for Goldmane, and 2 for Caller
Goldmane has been printed three times and caller twice (three if you count the black one)
And let's say he's getting another card in this block.
So 4 cards and 8 arts.
I'm not surprised that Ajani is coming back, honestly. Ajani's Chosen was a clear hint that Ajani would be playing with enchantments in the near future. My only mistake was assuming it would be in M14.
It makes sense to shift Ajani to green/white since...
1.) Elspeth is already the most popular white 'walker
2.) Elspeth, Gideon, and Ajani are crowding up the mono-white slot
3.) There isn't currently a green/white 'walker
4.) Ajani is actually from Naya, which is the green shard
Of course, this is biased heavily due to wishful thinking. Still, he looks to have the Setessan colors on in the image above.

I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
Seconded. We don't even know how Elspeth got to Theros in the first place, much less anything she did after arriving there. Last we heard from her in canon, she was working with Karn to find a way to clear the Phyrexian taint from Mirrodin.

Cheeseburger, french fries, chocolate shake, somebody's mind I's about to take!
Elspeth, who leaves the dying mirrans and her friends to go fight some gods with Ajani.
I really wish some humans could achieve things in the storyline.
Yeah, I thought Elspeth HATED the phyrexian, so she just up and leaves, and no one tell me she's looking for help, they have Her, Koth and Grandaddy Karn.
I think they can take on some phyrexians no problem.
...they have Her, Koth and Grandaddy Karn.
I think they can take on some phyrexians no problem.
No doubt. The only reason Elspeth dropped out of her blood frenzy in NP and stopped killing wave after wave of Phyrexians was because Tezzeret called them off. She can fight almost like an Oldwalker when something gets her ire up.

Why is everyone assuming Xenagos for the big bad? Why not Mogis? He's covered in blood, has horns like a minotaur (is worshiped by minotaurs) looks like the kind of crazy **** that would inspire overzealous warriors to become cannibals...
That Jou pic... Lots of crazy going on there, the nyx stars are faded badly. At first I thought he was showing smoke and shadow where the nyx would be, but if you look closely the stars are still there, they're just very muted. Also, Looks like Ajani is using a shield here instead of his usual two handed axe. Really want to know why Elspeth and Ajani both had their usual weapons changed so drastically.
1. Ajani's outfit is the same it's always been. So the picture doesn't really hint at him being G/W. Though it would be cool if that turned out to be true.
2. I don't really get the "ugh another Ajani?" comments. Until he shows up in this block he's still behind Jace, Garruk, and Chandra for number of cards.
3. HOLY CRAP! ELSPETH AND AJANI WORKING TOGETHER??? As if this block wasn't already cool enough!

I really don't think so.
He looks all the world like a satyr, and Xenagos has already been attributed to have an affinity with them.
Given that it was stressed that Iroas and Mogis are the "Twins of War" I expect them to look similar, but maybe with different armor or pallets.

Nice catch.

He's not, its still his axe, but its been broken in half. Which is sure to piss him off because it was the combination of his and his brother's axes into a double axe. It was his most cherished material possession.
The second picture suggests that Elspeth's sword was turned into a spear by Heliod as a blessing of some sort.
You would think that with all those heroes around some might end up fighting the gods and maybe that one or two get their spark there but it looks like we just get another Ajani. Though I must say I'm looking forward to see a GW planewalker and this might be just it.
I agreed, it would be cool to see a legendary card in the first set of a hero, that becomes a Planeswalker by the last set.
Well, he did sort of star in his block.
The only thing that really bothers me is that it looks like one of the gods screwed around with Ajani's axe, which is NOT COOL you giant starry jackasses.
You're right. I was thinking more in terms of the game instead of its lore. Ajani's never really had a top tier incarnation yet (the best probably being Ajani Vengeant, who was always overshadowed by Jund decks that didn't use it).
Seconded. We don't even know how Elspeth got to Theros in the first place, much less anything she did after arriving there. Last we heard from her in canon, she was working with Karn to find a way to clear the Phyrexian taint from Mirrodin.
It was confirmed at SDCC when they first started showing us pictures of Theros and talked about her new spear. It's literally one of our oldest pieces of info about Theros.
And no, last we heard, she was LEAVING Mirrodin with Karn.

Both Karn and Elspeth looked at Mirrodin and basically said "Lost Cause" and told Melira and Koth good luck.

From what I remember Goldmane was the second best walker during the lorwyn run. Garruk was the highest tier, but Goldmane saw a little play. Certainly more than the rest.

I get that, but look at his left arm, he is holding it in a position that suggests he is holding a shield, and it's vague but you can see what appears to be the edge of a somewhat triangular shield on his left side.
Also, the only satyr feature he has is the horns, his ears are pointed the wrong direction for satyr features, his point upward, the satyr arts we have, their ears point backward. Dunno, I just get a very bloodlust vibe from the first art and an evil I'm going to get you vibe from the second art. Plus Xenagos is likely to be more interested in parties (although I imagine his parties have results similar to project X) than covering himself in blood, bursting out of the tops of mountains, and fighting planeswalkers. I don't have any support for it, but I would imagine that a god whose title is The Reveler isn't likely to be the BBEG of the block....

Way too many Ajani, Garruk and Jace! Wizards come up with new characters, please.
Rather silly that the mothersite left the door open on this.
Not sure how I feel about a second white 'walker in the set - I feel this may be ill-advised.
Rather nice we had the second installment of the PW guide to assist in the speculation here.
