Maybe he gave half of it to Elspeth and she used it to give her sword extendo-grip.
Heliod changed Elspeth's sword to a spear, so Ajani didn't really factor in.
But more importantly, they took the part of his axe that belonged to his BROTHER. The only sentimental piece he has to remember his murdered sibling by.
Kind of a thing.
It makes sense to shift Ajani to green/white since...
1.) Elspeth is already the most popular white 'walker
2.) Elspeth, Gideon, and Ajani are crowding up the mono-white slot
3.) There isn't currently a green/white 'walker
4.) Ajani is actually from Naya, which is the green shard
Of course, this is biased heavily due to wishful thinking. Still, he looks to have the Setessan colors on in the image above.
I hope either both are mono-W, or Elspeth is WR while Ajani is GW.
Why on earth would Elspeth shift to RW?
I mean, Ajani I could see, that's understandable and I can dig it, but... what about Elspeth is even remotely red?

You guys do realize that his outfit is nearly the EXACT SAME as his regular one is, right? Ajani Goldmane.
That being said, as above, I can dig a G/W Ajani. It'll be interesting since he'll give it a different spin than the predominant Selesnya flavoring of the color combo.

I could definitely see Ajani as either a Selesnya color or Naya color 'walker this time around. I doubt he'll ever be Boros colors again, since Gideon is gradually becoming the Boros 'walker in both colors and flavor.
I do agree that Elspeth is gradually becoming the iconic white Planeswalker to match with Jace, Liliana, Chandra, and Garruk.
I wonder if the cards in the likely gold uncommon cycle each references a specific gold god that appears in a later set. We know we have Karametra's Acolyte as a promo card and Destructive Revelry specifically calls out Xenagos.

Not color. Not even remotely color.
Man I get tired of saying that.
Gideon is not going to embrace red. He aligned with the Boros attitude and goals, but Gideon has a huge and IMPORTANT contempt of red.

Here are my predictions on the gold gods:
Karametra (harvest) = green-white.
Keranos (storms) = blue-red.
Mogis (bloodlust in battle) = black-red.
Iroas (noble war) = red-white.
Pharika (aging and death) = black-green.
Ephara (bestower of magic) = white-blue.
Xenagos (the reveler) = red-green.

Can you explain it? It's the first I've heard of him having contempt for red, especially since he's usually been described as being romantically interested in Chandra.

By misdirecting her unwillingness to be the hero into a short but passionate outburst of freedom.
Elspeth may have lived in Bant, she may have learnt discipline and order, but in the deep end she still ascended in fear and need of freedom, it wouldn't surprise me to see her have short outbusts of R to keep that freedom, specially after the way she bonded with Koth.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
Can you explain it? It's the first I've heard of him having contempt for red, especially since he's usually been described as being romantically interested in Chandra.
It was rather a large portion of the Purifying Fire's plot, as well as tied to some of his backstory.
To start with, the man who trained him was himself trained by a planeswalker. Gideon's Sural originally belonged to him, but it was a pyromancer who killed his master's master. Given that, during his training, his master went to great lengths to make sure Gideon would never underestimate a red mage.
Aside from that, Gideon's core personality is firmly entrenched as a hieromancer. He uses spells that enforce order, and red mana is the antithesis to that. It's about chaos and freedom, but aside from that, he has a great deal of idealogical conflicts with Chandra, and red in general, including their reckless, short-sighted behavior and disregard for rules in the desire to see an immediate result. He believes that everyone has to work together, that an individual has to put themselves below the needs of others, but at the cost of a strict adherence to the law.
What he saw in the Boros was a desire to act directly, but their methods and motivations grated on him badly. They both wanted the same end goal, and that is why Gideon agreed to lead a legion, but if you browse through the flavor texts, you'll find that Gideon didn't agree with their priorities or ideals.

That is EXTREMELY out of character for her, and it doesn't even match up with what we know of her on Theros.
You're also confusing the principles of freedom that she was seeking. Red doesn't value rules, that's the freedom they seek, Elspeth's desire for freedom was born of ENSLAVEMENT AND TORTURE, not laws.
Gods look like RG and WB respectively to me.
And nice to see "monster-gods" in the 2nd set.
So, I guess that means "Born of the Gods" means: The original monocolor gods screwed around with some monsters and are the parents of the new dualcolor gods (RG Satyr, WB Centaur god). Nice twist!
So, per accident, Heliod saw Elspeth killing a hydra, and now he recruits her to kill his monster offspring -> Journey into Nyx.
If so, this is gonna be an epic tale.
I figured Ajani would show up to this plane when I saw the first card that had the Leonin pictured on it. It might not have been Ajani but I had my hunch.
I have attached a card which references "Xenagos, the Reveler" whom I believe to be a Dionysis or Pan type of god, whom I believe will be red-green, and whom I believe is the starry satyr god pictured in the leaked images above.
I would definitely imagine Dionysus as definitely being black.
He's the god of getting drunk, his followers worshipped him by having orgies, one of his symbols is the *****, he once killed some guys son, then fed them to him, and he was one of few gods able to return somebody to life after they died.

Xenagos is certainly R/G. We have a Green Satyr that sacrifices for Red Mana, he's got red/green coloring, and he's referenced on a Red/Green gold card feature dancing Satyrs.
The "party till you die" thing is most definitely a red, not black thing in the current color pie. (Rakdos is a similar take, where the difference is in the emphasis on pain/suffering due to the black part.)

It definitely seems likely and that works pretty well in my opinion.
