I think you're missinterpreting what I mean by Minimal Impact. I'm not worried about this card being a $50 dollar tournament staple, but I would like for something of the milestone calibur to be more useful than extreme corner cases. It's exposure will be so limited that it's a card that could have been, if created by wotc in some standard set, completely forgettable. When we consider that this is not a card designed in the normal ways, one would hope it would stand out and have some solid saturation. Instead we have a card that unplayable in limited, only corner case win more in EDH, terrible in any standard environment outside of a super cycling based one, unplayable in modern, legacy and vintage at any cost. It's sad and disheartening to think that on our 4th try we have only actually landed one card successfully, and will have to wait something like 4 more years to try again.
Yes the casual players are giddy over this, but it's in their nature to think inwardly when it comes something like this. They wanted what tickled their fancy and didn't care about making an all around solid card. Well they got their way, the third megrim variant to add to their discard decks. I personally wanted blood in the watering can. EDH would have loved it, bomb in limited, standard (depending on the environment) could have really utilized it, modern could really use an oversold cemetery variant for rogue decks and strategies. Vintage and Legacy are beyond me to really judge on. Overall a card that would have had a much larger impact on MTG throughout, from kitchen tables, to sealed pools, to possibly even legacy opens (depending on cmc).
I am glad though that at least some very minor group of people may find enjoyment out of this, but it does little to ease the disappointment that we've once again made such a mediocre and forgettable card.
Yes, a card is broken because it's good if you have an already-activated Bloodchief Ascension. That's why Bloodchief Ascension and Traumatize decks were rocking Standard back when Zendikar was around.
This just in: Pillarfield Ox is a broken card! If your opponent has 2 life and you have a way to give it haste and make it unblockable, you can kill a player. Plus it has 4 toughness for 4 mana. Think of how many burn spells that dodges.
Next time on Broken Cards for Casuals: Worldspine Wurm. It's 15/15!
Commander:
R Daretti, Scrap Savant
BR Olivia Voldaren
BRG Shattergang Brothers
GUR Riku of Two Reflections
WBG Karador, Ghost Chieftain
CMC of three or higher though, then no, I cannot imagine it being worthwhile -- even in a casual deck. :/
