How many more times can we do the Colossus of Rhodes trope?
They can still milk about a half dozen more out before it becomes too cliche.
Heck, at some point it'll stop being played straight and become ironic. They can get another 2-3 after that point.
It's the artist's style. Nils Hamm (who I think did this one) often does darker pieces, including all of the ones in my sig. This guy is most likely white.

I thought Nils when I first saw this too, but I think it seems a little too clean to be his work. All solid lines and such. The colouring is very much his style though.

On combatting Aetherling:
"No matter what, it's still just cardboard that can be ripped up. And then they have nothing."
The sun's role here suggests something of Heliod, the white god. Plus, it's the white/red city.
I loved Opals, so Opal Titan would be epic.

Quote from Skullum »
that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Yeah, it doesn't look like his usual vomit elemental...

The art looks awfully empty though in the top half. It's mostly homogenous sky. The green patterns cloak that fact a little, but the piece is quite vertical for card art.
Is there a quality about this that implies this is more than promotional art?

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Very glad MaRo already slammed the book on all the "titans can be reprinted in Theros!!" speculation by saying Sun Titan is NOT in Theros.
The best way to do a greek theme is not to retrofit existing cards into your theme, it is to make new cards.
Why would anyone play any of the monsters in Theros when they can play a titan? This is why titans have a low chance of ever coming back to standard.

I think it's more likely that we'll get something in a similar design space than a straight-up reprint. Maybe an Opal Titan that animates based on something you do rather than your opponent.
Cute to see that the nipple armors are going to be across the board for both genders in this set, I was a bit disturbed seeing those Theros style guides.

I'm pretty sure that that's the exact reference they're counting on.
I'm personally not sick of this trope, especially when the Theros setting makes it seem like new again.

I see what you mean, but after looking through everything else he's done (http://magiccards.info/query?q=a%3A%22Nils+Hamm%22&v=card&s=cname), this doesn't seem too far away from his style at all.
Very fond of tiny guys on helmet

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."

Because most people play casual? In addition many of the other formats would do fine without those titans.
