1. It doesn't fit the pattern of Theros and other fall sets, with multiple marks registered at the same time in a bunch of categories.
2. Every first set of a block since Lorwyn has had the plane name in the name of the set.
At this point, I'd say the most likely possibility is the 2014 summer product.
Its a new multiplayer format, where each person is given a card from a pack, those with sleeper agent written on them have to try and stay alive as long as possible and attempt to kill everyone else, no one knows the other alignments of the table, the table is also supposed to work out who the traitors are and work against them.
It's like trouble in terrorist town but with magic cards...I can wish right?
I really hope it's not this kind of thing. You do realize you can play this now with a group of friends, their decks, and a pile of playing cards, right?
Step one: figure out the roles. I usually go for 3-5 roles, depending upon the number of players.
1) Mafia/Outlaws/Killers/ECT.: These are the players out to kill the Police/Sherrifs. If all the Mafia die, then everyone else wins. Except the Assassins.
2) Police/Sherrif/Detective/ECT.: These are the characters trying to stop/kill the Mafia. If all of these characters are killed, the Mafia/Outlaws win.
3) Citizens/Townsfolk/ECT.: These are the regular people. They have no bearing on the game except as fodder. If they all die... eh.
4) Assassins/Renegades/ECT.: these characters are out for themselves and are optional to play with. If all these characters die, nothing happens and the game continues. If all the Police die, the Assassins lose and the Mafia wins. If all the Mafia die, then the Police has to hunt down the Assassins. If the Assassins kill all the Police first, then they win and vice-versa.
5) Assistants/Deputies/ECT.: these characters help the Police and are optional to play with. If all the Assistants die, then tough luck for the Police; the game continues. If the Police win, then the Assistants win too.
Step 2) Now assign certain cards roles (Aces are Police, Kings are Mafia, Queens are Citzens, etc.), randomly distribute the cards, and the Police reveal who they are.
Step 3) Start playing Magic. If anyone dies, they reveal their roles. Keeps playing until one of the win conditions is reached. (It should go without saying that alt. wincons. should not result in victory, but alt. losscons. still count per person)
Add roles and abilities as you see fit (If a Police kills a Mafia, they draw a card. If a Police kills an Assistant, they discard a card). If you don't have a deck of cards, go out and buy one, they cost 50 cents or something. Or you could buy a board fame like BANG! or that Battlestar Galactica game Will Wheaton showed on tabletop...
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
I said this before we knew about Theros and I'll say it again...
The new set is hardly known, and people are already trying to pounce all over the next one!
Calm down!
Its no wonder MTG boards are filled with people unhappy with sets. Too busy trying to find
the next one.
My guess is that it is going to be a movie starring Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts and Patrick Stewart about a delusional guy who publishes newsletters with spoilers that he thinks of himself. He actually gets one right and Patrick Stewart plays the WOTC legal guy who sends his men to capture him and give him a C&D letter. This leads to Julia Roberts saving him and they all live happily ever after.
maybe another un-set with ridiculous card unprinted cards like super force of will
urza, serra & yagmoths planeswalker card... platinum baby angel ... a sword of artifact with a protection on artifact... sniper equipment card.. 5 color pruducing land. akroma and avacyn spoof cards... crovax flip cards etc
and a cthululu card and 4th and 5th eldrazi card.
green & blue colored knight.
funny and legendary weapons converted into equipemnts in mtg like mirari sword
sword of the ages and sword of the chosen...
i hope wizards does make it a fun set with dream cards...
and awesome tokens...foil token are cool but make them cooler....
lenticular tokens or hologram tokens plus new emblem and a gideon creature card token!
It could definitely be a fall set name -- remember that there was once a set called "Invasion"
Nicol Bolas must be involved in the conspiracy in some way.
Depending if they wanted to expand the PW story more, Conspiracy could fit as a set name if the block was more about Bolas/Tezzeret/Whatever schemes being discovered and countered by Jace/Chandra/Gideon/Etc, and didn't take place on a single plane to boot.
If they really wanted to put an air of multiplane conspiracy in things, then it could happen by setting Set 1 on, say, Ravnica (the discovery), Set 2 on Alara (chasing the clues), and Set 3 on Zendikar (the finale). If this did happen, it would be a way for Wizards to be able to revisit planes that they might not want to spend an entire block on but still want to expand on the flavour (Mercadia and Ulgrotha come to mind first).
I really hope it's not this kind of thing. You do realize you can play this now with a group of friends, their decks, and a pile of playing cards, right?
This type of thing is also better suited to oversized cards than Commander. If done like Bang, it's also a good way to bring back Vanguard alongside the secret role cards. Lastly, I'm sure they'll add new Magic cards to spice it up.
"A rich man thinks all other people are rich, and an intelligent man thinks all other people are similarly gifted. Both are always terribly shocked when they discover the truth of the world. You, my dear brother, are a pious man." - Strahd von Zarovich
Doesn't sound all that serious in the least. Here's hoping it's the conclusion to the Un trilogy. (Altho I would like the 3rd Un set to actually have UN in the name.)
WotC's finally admitting the fact that they're run by the Illuminati?
But seriously, it sounds like a new casual format, a la Planechase or Archenemy. MtG meets Mafia?
No, no, the conspiracy is that it reflects actual occultism, white's always good except when MaRo's trolling, and Sorin is Mark Rosewater's Gary Stu and Nissa is his wife.
Hilariously, I've met someone online who has actually made these assertions.
All I could think of is some kind of MtG version of the Battlestar Galacticia board game, where each player is secretly giving an alignment card at the beginning of the game, and the "bad guys" can subtle sabotage the game. I have no idea how you could implement that into MtG though.
It's actually pretty fun to play, if you have enough people.
Conspiracy sounds more like a second set than a first one, if it's just an expansion. Just going by the tendency of set names:
First set: Plane's name is mentioned in some way.
Second set: Reference to the conflict, or to the Big Bad (or someone everyone thinks is the Big Bad but oh how little the audience knows). Conflux, Mirrodin Besieged, and Dark Ascension fit into this trope.
Third set: Some concept of the conflict being resolved (Saviors of Kamigawa, Dissension, Avacyn Restored) or some cataclysmic event (Fifth Dawn, Shadowmoor, Alara Reborn, Rise of the Eldrazi, New Phyrexia).
Obviously there are exceptions, but something sinister-sounding is almost always a second set. Unless WOTC wants to do a little more world-sundering.
But no, I'm sure the third un-set would be called Unscrewed. It fits all the logic of an un-set. Has "un" in its name and means "disassembled" or "crazy".

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
There's no way it's an ordinary set, at least. Notice the inclusion of "Magic: The Gathering" as a prefix in the name; the only time they've done that before is with Commander.

That sounds a *lot* like the "Secret Partners" variant we use for EDH.
You basically just said how it's implemented-
Before the game starts, each player is given a card that says "Angel/Demon Team, face up/down", or "Lone Wolf" (no allegiances).
The face up players immediately go after one another while their "secret" partners try to help them without being too obvious about it.

I wonder if its like assassin?
You have one king, two assassins, and gaurds.
The assassins try to kill the king without making it readily apparent.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Nicol Bolas must be involved in the conspiracy in some way.
But now they put the plane's name in the first set of a block... I say its the second set from the Huey block.
Could be the conclusion to the Homelands block or part of a new Dominaria trilogy.
I really hope it's not this kind of thing. You do realize you can play this now with a group of friends, their decks, and a pile of playing cards, right?
