That is absurd, I want lots of cards that are not worth $200.
Agreed. My desire for a card has absolutely nothing to do with its cash value. The rareness or uniqueness of the card (which of course drives the price in many cases) is another story. That's the collector in me.
I couldn't care less about their rarity. I just want them because they look gorgeous. That's kinda the whole problem, really... They're not really worth what they're selling for to me or people like me, but that doesn't mean we don't want them.

Agreed. I really liked the way they looked. We seem to be the minority, or at least a lot less vocal. I spend more money on cards than most folks do, but I'd just rather have lots of cards to play with than a few pretty ones I wouldn't play with.
I wanted these because I knew they would be incredibly rare, and I like owning Rare Magic cards. I had to sell off the best bits of my collection a few years back, so it's nice that Wizards is releasing new promos to satiate those of us who want to scratch that collector's itch.
Since I wanted these, I found a way to get my hands on them. I know not everyone could do that, and that sucks, but the rarity drives the demand to a good extent. I know if it was easy to get my hands on these, I wouldn't have cared nearly as much and wouldn't have gone to any lengths to make sure I got them.

So, if you only had to pay, say, 20% over normal price for each of these you would not have wanted them? That is an alien concept to me.
I am not criticizing the "promo"-ness of these or even the rarity. I could have waited online for weeks and gotten refreshing programs, and picked a set up for list just like anyone else, but I chose not to and I am okay with that. I am envious to be sure, but I do not regret my choice nor am I being critical them.
My only reason for posting was Imaginarion's post and how unfathomable I find that mind-set regarding magic cards. For long time I worked very hard to find as perfect of condition as I could find a play-set of Glory in Hebrew because I am Jewish and it is the only card ever printed in Hebrew. It is also a very playable card in EDH, but even if they had been jank (but still cool looking) I would have still sought them out. Did I pay a lot for them? No, not even with shipping from Israel (coincidence), but I still went to great lengths to get them in the shape I wanted them in. If they had been $100 a piece I would have written them off as a curiosity that I would probably never feel comfortable purchasing, even if I could technically afford that (resist the urge for some kind of Jewish joke, here).
Oh well, that's that much less time I have to spend auto-refreshing.

I play and judge at Giga Bites Cafein Marietta, Georgia.
I really liked the unusual art. I would have loved to at least have one of those.
I wish WOTC got out of their comfort zone more often and do more of this kind of promos, except make them mass produced as well.
That defeats the purpose, though. No one would want them if they weren't worth $200 each.
Well, I would, so I guess you're completely wrong, huh?
