Abilities, off the top of my head interact differently depending on bushido or flanking:
Indestructible
Protection from [blocker]
Deathtouch
Double Strike
Lifelink
And those are just evergreen keywords. If we go into other keywords, and even more on specific cards, there are enough times that flanking =/= bushido that one is not the same as the other but cleaner.
I'm curious, do people actually read the whole thread, or just latch onto one specific post they think is wrong. The original comment was that bushido was an evolution or re-tweaking of Flanking. I never said they were the same. Because of this, I doubt that they would re-tweak Bushido again for Theros.
f- it. I give up on these forums.
The thing is, they've said multiple times that Bushido was a great mechanic, and they'd like it to return... except that its flavor is limited to Japanese-themed settings. That sounds like it's ripe for a re-tweak. (I don't think they'd actually change it mechanically, just create an identical ability with a flavor-neutral name.)
Plus, Kamigawa was almost a decade ago, longer even than the period between Mirage (when Flanking was introduced) and Kamigawa.
actually, it means there are at least 2 new keyword abilities. also, this tells us nothing new because everyone should know new keywords are appended at the end. Maro already told us there would be 3 new keywords; Tabak is just reaffirming what Maro said. the 3rd one could be ability word or not.
assume that Theros will have only 2 new keywords, no more, no less. then the tweaked keyword is most likely only an ability word, which don't get their own rules section in the CR. otherwise, a true keyword ability that is renamed will get its own section. cf. fading and vanishing. which also tells us they would rather rename and rewrite the rules of an older keyword, than errata (which would be logistically impossible.) which is to say, a tweaked Bushido would not be called Bushido, but a new name, which would then require a new section in the rules, in addition to the new 2 keywords.
Everyone knows that good luck and good game are such insincere terms that any man who does not connect his right hook with the offender's jaw on the very utterance of such a phrase is no man I would consider as such.
Pretty sure this means Bushido with a new name - the amount of talk about Bushido on Maro's blog meant I was already expecting this.
Would be really interesting to see how Bushido plays out with modern creature power levels. I somewhat expect a return of Bushido to really shake up the 'Midrange is favored over aggro, control is favored over midrange, aggro is favored over control' setup, as aggro can now play creatures that trade with midrange's creatures but at a cost of speed.
Example: Think of someone removing a Kalonian Tusker from their deck to add a 2/3 Bushido 2 two-drop. Control thinks 'sweet, glad that only hits me for 2'. Midrange thinks 'oh hell, that blanks my Smiter and trades with some of my 4-drops'.

Or they are going back to Kamigawa. A concept hit, but a mechanical mess, that they had powered down because of the ****-up that was Mirrodin.

Has this been mentioned yet? It seems that in a mythology chockful of gods, the return/tweak of divinity counters would be a flavor fit.
A keyword for the Myojin ability would be interesting, but the reminder text makes it pointless. Keywording it wouldn't decrease the amount of text, and the ability would only be used on rares and mythics.

How about the rework for regenerate? They've historically said that regenerate was a needlessly complex keyword. It'd probably be the keywording of tenacious dead because that's what regenerate should probably have been and what they intended it to be.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Regenerate is a total mess I agree with that but change regen to creatures going to graveyard and comming back makes a big game changes, for example Dark Prophecy will be a super awesome card and maybe a powerfull house if you can avoid in some way the -1 life and all of the graveyard hate can be quite powerfull thinking at Oozie or RIP. And you can get a excesive power with ETB effects and cards like Mending Touch.
I can't believe anyone is excited about this card. It is absolutely unplayable. I wouldn't even play her in LIMITED. Easily the worst walker printed since the green elf one. Absolutely terrible.

But at the same time, you have to remember that this will most likely also apply to your opponent's creatures as well. Sure, creatures like Smiter will almost certainly decrease in power when forced to confront a creature with Bushido, but some of the other creatures would also have Bushido. Bushido, as a mechanic, can lend itself just as easily towards midrange decks as towards aggro decks.
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
Because we have flanking, and we have bushido, and exalted. I feel like some rando combat oriented triggered P/T affecting ability at this point is just rehashing something that has been done successfully 3 times.
Speaking of which, I want something with bushido, and flanking, and exalted. That would be a fun creature to plan attacks with

It's been done successfully way more then three times. Off the top of my head there's also: Battalion, Battlecry, Rampage, and I'm sure there's more. The reason that there are so many different "rando combat oriented triggered" effects is that is is a well established concept with plenty of room for additional design. It also speaks to a large portion of the Magic audience, so they keep making those effects. And each set almost needs to have one combat oriented mechanic because there needs to be a balance of play styles.
And just because we have seen something before doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't see it again. Would you say that we shouldn't see any mechanical love given to control styles just because we got some in RTR block? Why should we see any counterspells in Theros when we have Render Silent, Negate, Cancel, etc.? No, because we need replacements and accommodations in the game. I will agree that there needs to be a spacing in between similar mechanics, but I don't think Battalion filled its role as well as Bloodrush.
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
Bushido is NOT the tweaked mechanic. MaRo said that the tweaked mechanic was also tweaked mechanically since it didn't really did as well as they wanted. Bushido, on the other Hand, did well mechanically.
@those saying we already knew this. No, we didn't. We knew there are going three new mechanics, a returning mechanic and a tweaked mechanic. Mechanic doesn't necessarily mean keyword. Landfall, Untap X lands etc are all also mechanics.

I'd feel horribly cheated if they did this.
Candidate #1
Candidate #2
There are probably other candidates.
Think Lifelink or Bushido. A returning mechanic doesn't need to have been a keyword before.

Kamigawa was not a success mechanically or flavorfully. I wouldn't hold out for a return to that plane any time soon.
Hoping for fateseal/scry/a variant thereof in Theros. I just want a good blue cantrip. Is that too much to ask?
Could the retweaked one be the missing mechaning from NPH that Maro is always talking about?

but mechanically it was bland

Immortal 2GG (when this creature dies, you may pay 2GG. If you do so, return it to the battlefield tapped under its owners control.)
How has nobody seen this: Bushido = Phalanx
Phalanx fits the blocking theme as it was a defensive formation that also allowed for increased offensive power, and it was an actual Grecian tactic!
But at the same time, you have to remember that this will most likely also apply to your opponent's creatures as well. It's an ability word. And it only goes on these promotional cards (as far as we know for now.)
