Ew...that's all I can really say, I guess. Shivan Dragon in the Chandra deck? Really? They couldn't think of a better rare than that? Nice to see Liliana's Reaver in one intro pack, I guess. Should help keep the price down in case that card becomes big (personally I think it has some potential, especially if we don't get a Searing Spear replacement).
I can't BELIEVE the other rare in the Jace deck is Clone of all things. (I like clone effects, but, Clone itself is just...I dunno...boring? I'm not a fan of that art, and...I already have it anyway) Besides personal bias, it just doesn't really seem to fit, it's just kinda there.
Intro Packs are bought by people who don't play T2. I think they don't care to get Clone or other reprints. They just want a couple new cards to play some duels in the kitchen.
Just here to agree. Came to the forum to see what people were saying after seeing them, and I found exactly what I expected. Every single one is lackluster. Usually the promo card on at least 2 of them is something that could see play.
How are these intro decks? Not too good!!! Me and all of my magic the gathering buddies would not touch this with a ten foot pole!!!!! These things are soo bad they oughta slash the price then maybe id buy one with the cauldron and the witch.
so fun how you cry, that the intro decks dont have all the spoilers... you realise that this thing is NOT FOR YOU, but for new players who have no idea how to play the game, and who have no cards? and who dont buy singles?
and cards like shyvan drake are perfect for the new players. when i started this game at the fifth edition when i was 13 or something, i loved big dragons and so on... and so do most new players.
Even the free 30 card decks they give away to beginning players are better than this garbage.
You could build an all commons deck that would run better than any of these. These decks have no purpose, no single goal - it's like they just threw whatever they wanted into them.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
7-8 bucks is only half the price though, and these don't really make up for the rest. (Yes, I know there is a good chance of your comment being sarcastic.)
I get that they're for beginning players, but I feel like they're a little insulting to a person's intelligence. Why not just trust new players with powerful cards that have interesting effects? Instead of giving new players vanilla cards.
Though maybe the main problem is that there's such a small number of strong/exciting M14 cards. I don't get why they couldn't put Fiendslayer Paladin in one of the lists. At least give new players that much.
Serious question, why isn't Clone an uncommon at this point?
The power of the card is concurrent with its rarity. 4 mana against Mono Green monsters? Being able to essentially copy and thus negate an important piece of their deck for 4 mana is a bargain. And because of this, it can't be uncommon. Clones are too useful to be uncommon.
I was really hoping these would be mono coloured. I usually like taking an intro pack to an fnm or two and just trying to place prizes with it.
These feel like they have the same problem as the m13 ones where it splashs a colour for something not worth splashing for and makes itself really inconsistent, worst is about the work thing in magic you want to be showing new players.
Like the m13 ones though, all the rares are really fun build around cards.

I can say the same for Domestication. Its gives tempo against agro. And helps stabilizing.
