Fun card. Probably a 2/2, but occasionally a 5/5 or bigger.
You could use Restoration Angel to blink it during some turn when you've already gained life to make it bigger, or to blink a thragtusk before playing it. Well is in the format too, and it could potentially make a 6/6 on turn 3 or a 12+/12+ on later turns when the board is stalled. Azorius Charm is not bad, as someone already mentioned. Centuar Healer doesn't cost you a card.
Anyone who played innistrad block constructed knows that Gnaw to the bone can gain you upwards of 18 life for 3 mana in the right deck. Go deep with Chalice of life?
Some facts of magic:
-Terror is an emotion which, when experienced, results in death.
-The pox was a disease notorious for having killed one-third, rounded up, of Europe’s population. Smallpox, on the other hand, killed only a single person.
-A person riding a horse cannot be stopped by foot soldiers, large animals, walls, archers, or even catapults.
Yeah, all those hoops make me wonder how an ability like bloodthirst made it into a core set...
Bloodthirst was fine coreset material. Swing, cast dude in mainfase 2 with counters for profit. It demonstrated the usefullness of casting stuff in your second mainphase.

If lifegain is going to become relevant in it's own right. This card if going to help it along. A bear that is still good top deck mid to late game is a fine card. Versatile cards like this are what I love about MTG.

Luck isn't the only reason I win. Just most of the reason.

I was being sarcastic, and you illustrated my point perfectly. There's nothing more complex about swinging with a lifelinker and then casting the wurm than there was with bloodthirst.
If only there was a way to break this in Legacy because it just is too sweet with Delusions of Mediocrity. I guess though, that's just me being delusional. Ajani's Pridemate fits the bill in most decks, but this will be cute for limited. There's definitely ally color life gaining action (Green/white lifegain).

Finally, let's not forget about Trading post!
