You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
I will honestly be surprised if enchantments are not mechanically relevant to the themes of Theros in some way.
Likewise, I will honestly be surprised if Theros doesn't have a tribal theme, given reprints like Mutavault and Door of Destinies in M14, not to mention the whole M14 Sliver thing that's priming that pump.
Unless I'm not seeing the Equipment correctly, it's flavourful but not quite playable except in a few spots. Not enough to get it out of the junk rare bin though.

Consider that a wager, if you like.
Why would you be surprised when both of those rares are pricey (one waaaaay more than the other but still) yet not so pricey as to anger 'collectors' with a reprint, and they're both pickable for Sliver limited. Mutavault and Ooze alone guarantee this set will sell. Hell, I might just start going to drafts and forcing Slivers every time I go so I can pick Vaults and Doors without feeling bad. They just did tribal with Innistrad, so even if it is a theme, it's going to be a minor theme, while enchantment stuff might be meaty enough to be a landfall-worthy mechanic.
On the cards at hand, Blightspeaker is junky and Plate Mail, while flavorful, isn't that awesome either. All the awesomeness has been released. Spoiler season is in the dying embers, alas.
On second thought, Plate Mail both in and against decks with Supreme Verdict makes sense. In the decks with Supreme Verdict, you can stick it to your Aetherlings, and against it, you have a Batterskull-equivalent buff to P/T to let you slow-roll your creatures and a dude for when they sweep.
I kind of like Haunted Plate Mail. The fact that it can dodge sorcery speed removal is kind of nice, and it can also beef up your finishers or act as a "surprise" blocker if it has to. Not a terrible card at all.
The armour is awesome, definitely a big card in any spirit decks still being played over the next few months. My Lone Revenant deck has a spot open for him too
So we're all in agreement that it's really weird for black to suddenly start caring about enchantments unless Theros has a fairly major "enchantment-matters" theme running through it, yeah?
The card isnt good enough for standard, so it doesnt make any sense to include it here if Theros is an enchantment block. Rather (like mentioned before) this core set has a subtheme in enchantments.
Because the whole Flinthoof Boar cycle was good enough for Standard.
Blightspeaker certainly is powerful enough for casual players that want to use the newer enchantment related cards.

This is the only explanation for it I can see. I'm sold on enchantment theme Theros.
So because Haunted Plate Mail's ability is activate only if you have no creatures, I can have multiples and stack their activations to use them all as creatures at once, right?
Many a game of limited is going to be won with that equipment. Equip it any sort of wind drake or serra's angel and the game can end rather quickly. It also makes it clear to me why naturalize is in every set. It is a good fail safe.

Do you mean if you have no creatures at all? Not eactly.
602.5. A player can't begin to activate an ability that's prohibited from being activated.
So you'd have to wait until the first activation resolves and you have at least one creature before you can put the others on the stack.

No... If you have no creatures in play, the ability is not prohibited from being activated. You can put a million copies onto the stack, if you desire.

You just hold priority and activate the ability on all the Platemails you have.
I definitely want to build a creatureless control deck with Platemails and Mutavaults. Platemaill is pretty close to colonnade with its activation cost being 0. And realistically speaking, it pretty much doesn't have an equip ability.

Haunted Plate Mail seems decent in limited. Hefty cost for a hefty pump, and if your board is empty it can potentially hold the line or act as a threat. I like it in U/W fliers where your guys tend to be quite fragile.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
control decks won't play mutavault, unless there is tribal control deck (like fae). it's bad in control decks. it's good in tribal deck.

"Stoned players can't attack, block, or play spells or abilities."
Haunted Plate Mail looks designed for blue - White control decks, with Mutavault, blue white wrath of god, etc.
Blightcaster? For that mana cost and requirement of another cards to work? No, thanks.
