Critters replacing themselves doesn't seem inherently bad - that life loss being under a case you don't usually control can be however. And of course the trickiness involved in the CMC.
If any type of heavy black deck with lifelink/lifegain starts to become a thing (Sorin 2.0 and Tomb of the Archangel only around for a little bit to even potentially do it) I could see this actually becoming an all star.
EVERY critter replacing itself is a huge effect. Just a matter of mitigating the burn from it.
Man, this is going to be abused and I'm excited to play with this. With the YMTC black "build around me" enchantments all falling to discard, this seems to make up for it quite a bit. Ironically I bet someone submitted this exact effect but got rejected because this was being printed
Edit: Ok well this probably isn't the best thing ever, and may well not make a splash anywhere, but it's got quite nice potential. Best part is that tokens can die
Hey, its an engine card! At BBB! That doesn't really accomplish anything, as an inferior fecundity
Its pretty dang unimpressive and uninspired. With an uninspired name, and uninspired art.
I don't see where this becomes a better Fecundity. Sure, you're drawing cards and your opponents aren't, but, let's think about this for a second. Triple Black mana cost, Rare, AND you lose a life. Maybe with some kind of Gravecralwler/Bloodghast Modern deck. But what are you really accomplishing with that?
This card is amazing for almost any black based aggro deck in the control or midrange matchup. It is even better in the decks that can build around it, such as Golgari aggro, W/B Aristocrats or possibly black based Junk Aristocrats. WB has Cartel Aristocrat and GB has Varolz. I think that Doomed Traveler->Cartel Aristocrat->this will be the strongest setup, but in terms of figuring out the support team, Junk offers reliable options. This will probably be my sleeper pick for the set.
Just checked the Name and Number Crunch, 94 is Deathgaze Cockatrice which would mean that this cards number could be either 92 or 93. Blurry so hard to tell which.
I wish it triggered on each creature that died, mono black control might be a thing then :/
MBC will never be a thing again, MaRo called Dark Ascencion "the modern Torment" and if we didn't get the much needed power push for black then, we never will.
This enchantment makes my Reassembling Skeleton/Bloodghast/Nether Traitor+Skullclamp engine stronger so I love it.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
What it fails at as a spike card, it wins at as a johnny card, and oozes with flavor to boot.
I think it's actually pretty cool, but it is a do-nothing engine card on it's own in a format filled with angry decks that really don't mind at all if you lose some life and draw cards. We'll need to see some pretty impressive token generators in order for it to be fully justified, especially at it's restrictive cost, and particularly post-rotation.
For the time being though, I might try it out with a more controllish Sorin/Lingering Souls/Assemble the Legion type thing. I doubt I'd want to play this card before turn 5 or so anyway, the BBB isn't too bad when you put it in context with the right deck.

Not only is MBC a "thing" right now—albeit splashing blue and/or red—with M14 we'll be able to see a return to the old-school, Corrupter-style MBC decks. The Holy Grail of MBC that has been eluding Standard for such a long time now.
o_O Cool. Looks better than Blood Scrivener, even if you have to build around it. Don't know about the triple black cost, but if black decks with tokens stay a thing in Theros, this could be a hot card. Damn good in EDH, too. My WIP Jarad deck will snap it right up.
It would be much better as a MAY, however the effect is powerful enough that any deck that cast's lingering souls or use's Sorin's may want to take a hard look at this card.
What disappoints me about this card is that it is a worse Fecundity and it's in a rare slot. And then they wonder why black is hurting.
How is this worse than Fecundity? What makes this better is that it is not a shared card draw, only you get to draw cards. If you are worried about losing life, then you wouldn't be playing this card. This card alone nullifies board wipes as you get to draw cards and recover quicker. Life can easily be made up with life gain with creatures, even Thragtusk is made better because of this. Then there are those undying creatures that give you two cards.
It's not a worse Fecundity. It's a Fecundity that only you can benefit from.
Have things really progressed to the point where a little life loss in exchange for card advantage gets players nervous?
They just aren't used to how expendable, self-sacrificial and fragile black creatures tend to be, and how easy it is for black to sacrifice and recover their own creatures, because for two years we've been doing all we can to keep Falkenrath Aristocrat from dying.

well now, looks like my Ghave EDH is getting a new toy. I did need some more draw power and this will do nicely. I already hit triple black for Grave Pact so it should be that difficult for me to utilize this card.

I guess this is our obligatory all black mana symbol rare that doesn't really do anything. I don't get why Wizards keeps printing these kind of cards, I really don't.

It feels like a lot of neat combo decks can come from this too. Overall nice and powerful design.
(Thx to Craven of Epic Graphics)
It is a card that wants to be abused, and in standard it may be a good wrath protector, but BBB is a killer I think.

O-wee-o-wee-o,
You know I wanna play ya, play ya..
Could this take Fecundity's place in my GB Sac deck alongside Fume Spitter, Bitterblossom, Awakening Zone, Blood Artist, Grave Pact etc.?
BBB is tough I ain't gonna lie.

If it didn't said "you control" the card would makes you insta-lose against any sac engine in the world

The best example of old-school MBC would be Jarrod Bright's version, found here: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/print.asp?ID=2820 , from over a decade ago.
WotC, please hire me already.
It's 93 (comparing the the "™ & 2013" at the bottom left part of the card)
edit: Definitely 93. Name and Number Crunch: 94 is Deathgaze Cockatrice and that 93/249 confirms it.
Current Abrupt Decay count: 18
