I take it you haven't paid any attention to standard for the last 2 months?
But what about us mono-red folk?
The top standard decks are just dipping into red for a few goodies. I feel like Wizards should provide us with some things that reward us for committing to the color.
I think quitting magic is an overreaction, but red needs some love. Sure we got Boros Reckoner, but that card is as much white as it is red so it feels like like a backhanded compliment.
Considering Green is by far the most popular colour in Standard right now, this is all kinds of awesome. An excellent tempo answer to Voice of Resurgence, Thragtusk, some of Huntmaster of the Fells and even effective at sticking down a mana elf when attacking Reanimator strategies (or the occasional Naya Midrange player).
So do we get to complain about how much WotC hates red and green now? Like we complained about blue and black yesterday, after we saw Witchstalker?
No.
We only get to hate on Green and White. The funny thing is, Witchstalker is a way bigger problem for Black/Blue than this is for Red/Green. This card dies to Shock. Green can just play another creature. Witchstalker can't even be the target of this guy.
Don't like it. Gets blow up too easily. Other two "color hate" creatures are immune to spot removal [witch being hexproof and the paladin being removal to black/red spot removal]. Effect is rather weak. People crying about this need to Chill out. There have been much more powerful red hosers than this such as Kor Firewalker and Timely Reinforcements.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
This is such an improvement for Legacy Merfolk over the current solutions to Goyf that it would be crazy not to put it in your sideboard (why Submerge the Goyf and buy a turn when you can permanently deal with it and get another beater?).
Not a fan of the haterare cycle out of principle. Seems like if they're not independently good they're just sideboard filler. The white one has first strike and lifelink. The green one has hexproof. What does this have? Very Zzzzzzzzzz.

Witchhunter can be countered or sacrificed, Paladin can be sacrificed as well. Red gets a little boned by Paladin but it's not game-breaking since Boros Reckoner is a thing and it doesn't actually have protection, just RB hexproof.
Merfolk probably hurts green worse than red since he's so vulnerable to spot removal, which is definitely easier for R than G.

Or, you saddle up the white one with Blood Baron of Vizkopa and and laugh at your opponent. I'm excited to see the rest of the cycle.

Samething can be said for the merfolk but it dies to more stuff. Those other creatures are sturdier and have something else aside from the color hate. Unless green is alone I can see how it be a problem. But truly nothing back breaking.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
soo we are getting a XCC hate cycle? nice, i like.
i can see it a 1 in maindeck and 3 in sideboard
being able to stop 2 creatures is good
+++ against ramp and agro.
On a serious note, eventually the regime will change at WOTC R&D and they're going to try reprinting stuff like Tsunami, instead of weak color-hate like this jank.

Only problem there is removal galore in legacy and I can't see this being worth protecting with a Force or Daze. Might be nice in T2 though.

Man, I really thought I was being pretty obvious there. Guess not.
Witchstalker hates on UB for 1GG
Fiendslayer Paladin hates on BR for 1WW
and now
Tidebinder Mage hates on GR for UU.
That this guy is also a relevant creature type is just icing on the cake, especially for Modern/Legacy players that enjoy Merfolk.
I can't wait to see the black and red cards.

Many thanks to DNC at Heroes of the Plane Studios
Come to think of it, there needs to be more color-hate in Magic. I'm still holding out for Boil to be reprinted eventually.

Difference being Blue and Black have gotten almost nothing since Innistrad block while Red and Green have been getting extreme level value cards.

I really like it and am glad that Blue got a good but not overpowered effect.
People are really overestimating Witchstalker here. Great Sable Stag was far more of a hoser.
Now spoil the Red and Black ones, Wizards. I need my Rakdos!
Thanks to Rivenor of Miraculous Recovery Signatures!
