Coming next in Magic: 2015 - No more instants at all. Also, all lands will just be replaced with Energy cards. And Wizards will print the cards a little smaller so they can fit into your Yu-Gi-Oh sleeves.
I don't get it. With this guy and Voice, they pretty much nerf the hell out of instant speed removal, counterspells, etc.
lmao. This guy thinks Delver is control. Freaking Thundermaw Hellkite generation.
As someone who remembers things like Flashfires and Karma, I'm more amused by people complaining about this wolf being a "color hoser" (not that I'm clamoring for those cards to come back).
Since we have a witch, and this wolf looks like Toto on steroids, I am going to say we will see a cycle on the theme Wizard of Oz. Stay in tuned for the flying monkeys next.
Not an amazing card but very solid. Could definitely fit in some Bant Hex decks or SBs. Not a bad follow up to Voice either in any Selesnya deck and could easily push the Verdict out early. Will definitely see some play before it rotates.

he is a 3/3 for 3 and double green with hexproof. wow.. im really scared now!
seriously if your control deck cant handle a vanilla hexproof creature, which is not even undercosted, you should think about playing another deck..
they probably think this guy's safe to print because of all the edicts running around. they fail to realize there are dudes that leave behind dudes earlier on the curve that'll be the ones to get devoured.
Take your monoblack deck, then set aside 14 swamps. Add 4 Creeping Tar Pits, 4 Darkslick Shores, 4 Drowned Catacombs, and 2 Jwar isle Refuge and add 4 Jace, the Mindsculptors. Your monoblack deck is instantly better. Better yet, drop those refuges, throw in some islands and some mana leaks, and lo and behold, you're now playing a real deck. Congratulations. Welcome to the world of competitive M:TG.
As a U/B control player now, I assure you this will have no affect on anything. This might see fringe play but there is no room for this guy in standard at the moment. Maybe once Theros comes out and there isn't much to choose from but all in all I'm not worried about him.
I don't even understand WHY they need to make control hate. It should go unopposed and they should just print any control cards they please because control is only for the smartest players and it doesn't have a dozen ways to remove creatures or cause problems for opponents. How about UB: Destroy target creature, with flashback cost: discard a card?
Card is fine. Not overpowered by a long shot. Probably won't see constructed play, actually, and DEFINITELY not as a "control hoser." Smiter and voice are just better.
MIGHT help keep bant auras in the game (or more likely selesnya auras until we get mana fixing back to the point where 3-color aggro is viable). The deck will lose geist and stalker, which are the best dudes in the deck. This is a much worse replacement for geist. I'm skeptical, though... without a 2-cost hexproof, to go with it, I just don't see auras being viable. Ascended lawmage is too slow.
Control doesn't care about the pump that much. Blue counters it. Black plays far/away, or devour flesh. Control with white plays supreme verdict. This beast shouldn't be in play more than a turn against control anyway.
Too slow for straight aggro. might fit in a U/G combat tricks deck.
I won't mind giving up hexproof if wizards gives me back any of the other resource denial strategies that i used to enjoy.
I like knowing that my opponent's creature control cards are dead in hand. That's the challenge that i enjoy - finding ways to make it so that you can't get any value out of your cards. I used to do that with a winter orb lock but wizards changed the way artifacts work. Then i did land destruction until wizards took that away. And so on... hexproof is one of the only remaining mechanics that allows me to invalidate any part of my opponents gameplan and if wizards creates a game in which i cant do anything except for try to mass a better army than my opponents army then i won't play the game any more.
At some point wizards will have to own up to the fact that simplification has reached a point of diminishing returns and they will soon be losing more players than they're gaining.
I think that control players know what i'm talking about. You used to have tons of tools available to you but now you have very little to work with. It's no wonder that you hate hexproof because it is sort of like a supreme version of the problems that wizards has created but in actuality my hexproof plan wouldn't work at all if you had the cards that you deserve. Why don't you have a quality blocker that can withstand my suited up creature? Why don't you have counterspells that are broad enough in focus to prevent me from even getting started?
We are on the same side in this. The real enemy is these thragtusk style midrange decks. Derp around for 3 turns, cast farseek and follow it up with a creature that not only recovers your life but also provides card advantage, blockers and threats all in one. Can't be countered due to the presence of cavern of souls. Then that's not even the only creature that does that. Huntmaster essentially provides all of the same qualities as thragtusk but in a slightly different package. It's not even a game at that point. Just a contest to see who draws more heat. It's not interesting at all. My deck only works because midrange is so strong and control is so weak. Stop pushing midrange and start pushing control and the game will be so much more enjoyable.
I was going to post a sarcastic comment about power creep, but then the wolf would have gotten a +1/+1 counter.
Been awhile since i laughed aloud here, but this is sig worthy.
@Illinest: control takes all the fun out of the game for everyone else. I play my ____. oh darn countered. Um i play my ____. sweet you let me have it! Whup, murdered. Vapor snag says no, weeeeeee....lame. Im not violent, but playing against a smug control player(theyre always smug-unless you actually land something, then they get petulant). Playing against a control player makes me want to /tableflip. Besides, control still has pieces.
You can probably blame lor/sha ub faeries-and cryptic command for the rise of better non-control cards. Bitterblossom and thought sieze, ugh. Followed by command, and mistbind clique... Hated it.

I somewhat agree with this but not entirely. I'm just now playing control again (been along time since the days of Zur's Weirding & Firemane Angel) but I love playing against the slower midrange decks like those. I see you mentioned Cavern of Souls. Since I've been playing again I've had a total of 48 Caverns played on my opponent's side of the field and they have never gotten the chance to use it ever (Human, Ooze, Angel, Wizard, Beast have been the only types named so far)
Why do you people forget about Ghost Quarter? I run 3 main deck because it is necessary for control. I only play U/B control but I can 100% for a fact say I have the best control deck period. Some of you are gonna get upset by what I said but its true. Any style of control deck that plays against me will lose 2-0 in my favor. I've beaten the best versions of Esper, Flash, W/U, U/B and so forth.
Ok so back to the point, all I wanted to say is that Cavern of Souls should not have an impact what so ever if you are playing control.

That is a lie. There are engine decks, and combo decks that are much, much harder to pilot than control decks. Control decks reward good decision making, not high intelligence. (Probably got troll-baited but I digress)
Furthermore, with everyone else complaining about it being a "control hoser" it's not. It's like Sable Stag. It is a green card, that is anti blue and anti black. What does blue have? Reactionary spells/counter spells. What does black have? Reactionary Spells/Kill spells. So, he punishes black by not being able to be targeted by most of their removal. It punishes both Blue AND Black for trying to play in your turn, and keeps them honest. Good design, good flavor(giant wolf whose hide is magic resistant/absorbs magic) and overall good card.

You are being presumptuous. I'm pretty sure a good Esper or Grixis control pilot WILL punish you for having one less color to access.
Good design, good flavor(giant wolf whose hide is magic resistant/absorbs magic) and overall good card.
You're joking. There's nothing intuitive about this design at all.
Anyways, Great Sable Stag was printed to deal with Faeries. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they were printing this card. There aren't any particular decks playing blue or black doing well.
This card is boring but could make for decent sideboard fodder... were it not for the horrendous card art. What in the hell happened there? It's so bad I never want to see it again.

If I's like this.... the black one will be awesome just because it will hate WG

In all seriousness, the card seems competitively playable at the very least.

I'm with Carrie Oliver on this one. Hexprooh Mehxproof.

ill say it again: if you have trouble handling a 3/3 vanillia which you cant target, change your deck plz..
