To be honest, I'm glad we got a 6 mana Garruk. Not every planeswalker needs to cost 3 or 4 and make tokens/kill things/be Legacy playable to be worth the cardboard. He's got a niche (EDH, fun Timmy-centric ramp decks, possible control trump), and I predict he fits it like a glove.
Anyone who doesn't instantly love this promo and desire the complete set is either lying or just escaped from a padded cell. I don't even like Garruk and I think it's gorgeous.
Narrowly standard playable, at least as long as Craterhoof Behemoth is in legal. Play a bunch of 1CC mana guys (Avacyn's Pilgrim, Arbor Elf, Elvish Mystic) and accelerate into Garruk. If your opponent doesn't wrath, you dig towards Craterhoof and play it uncounterably off the -3. And if they don't wrath, you can rebuild quickly by continuing to +1.

This will kill my wallet as i like many others probably collect Planeswalkers. I hate the idea of 5 that i won't have right off.
you assume you have mana ramp and your opponent allows you to ramp into things....
And you make your mana drops. Essentially for a turn four garruk you will have to hit 4 land drops in a row and have two mana acceleration....
and the best you could do under your scenario is a turn 4 trostani's summoner
geist turn 2 with mana acceleration would have beat you down for 18 points of damage on the play.... 12 on the draw....
cause primeval titan never saw play when geist was in the format right? get outa here man. If a card has to beat turn 2 geist to be good I guess JTMS is a terrible card. For 3 months there will be 3 different mana dorks legal in standard. that plus farseek should be plenty to ramp out fatties of all sorts. Im not dumb enough to say this card is format defining, but damn is it good.

Well call someone to send me to an Asylum, because I don't like promos that came about because Wizards ran out of color ink in the printers.
Now trying to call in favors to have someone pick me up a set of those at the SDCC Hasbro booth. They will be HOT.
That's exactly what I am doing. My sister-in-law is going and I sent her the link to the article the second that I saw it saying "I need a set of these!"
It is going to sell out incredibly fast, so I am not getting my hopes up, but it would be sweet to have these.
I hate the black on black, but I intend on picking up some or having a buddy pick them up if I cannot make,it to the booth. Regardless of how bad they are, they could be the next Jace Beleren book promos.

Titan had a much bigger impact on the board than this garruk does. It was used either in WRR where it was usually lethal next turn by dumping mana into the WR, or it was used in Valakut ramp where getting the lands killed you.
There are about 1,000 stronger 6 mana plays than this garruk. It is not good. It is a casual and EDH card, nothing else. It may see fringe play if there's some huge green 15 mana fatty printed in Theros as an alternate win con in a reanimator shell. That would be the only deck that would want this guy.

The "I think" is the key statement here. I think that it looks pretty cool. I want to get a set. I don't think it is amazing or anything, and unless I can get them at SDCC for whatever Wizards is selling them for, I do not see myself buying them from the collector's market.
In the end whether someone likes or dislikes... anything, is a matter of personal opinion. Calling someone a liar or insane based on a statement of opinion is pretty silly.

Please name the 1000 stronger 6 mana plays please Id like to know what they are. This guy helps you push out bigger creatures and gives you card advantage on a larger level than sphinx's revelation. Ill sphinx for 3 oh well Ill draw 2-4 relevant cards and do that again and again until the end of the game.

are we comparing this to prime time.... the card that instantly gets you two land: inkmoth and wolfrun...
And wow JTMS.... are you serious....
So your plan is run all the mana dorks you can so you can use his second ability to put out what????
Well maybe a Ramp deck will be a thing. When M14 launches, we have Arbor Elf, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Elvish Mystic and Farseek, as well as a lot of 3cmc+ ramp like Into the Wilds.
Put 4 of each into a deck and you can have 6 mana on turn 3 easily.
Also note that unlike Primal Hunter this Garruk can use his -3 as he hits play without landing in the graveyard. There is no need to use the +1 first, just play C.O.B. for 6, -3 him, drop something scary and use the +1 the following turns.
Over the course of standard one of two things will happen:
1) No super green fatties or ramp gets printed - Garruk remains in board for every green deck ever for the control match up
2) Good cards are printed and he is a format staple.
Imagine:
T2 Farseek
T3 3 mana ramp enchant + red removal
T4 Garruk -3 Borobos blow up a guy
T5 +1 draw 2 dudes cast some other random fatty swings and max value.
*sigh*
I meant "acceptable" as a card that is being printed. As something that exists. Literally, within the first few comments of this thread all I read was "I hope this isn't real because it's not a constructed staple". I really wonder if the magic community can accept that there are cards which don't immediately light the world on fire.
I my self, only play competitive standard, and thus his playability, is 0. In competitive standard,he is a horrible card.

imagine you losing because you spent so many resources for something that is not good... and you played Borobos...
Also, everyone is suggesting his -3 would be used to cheat something out that costs higher than him, but realistically, a much better play is to use it to cast two medium sized creatures on the same turn instead that you wouldn't have mana for. Why play a giant adephage when you can cast a Silverheart and a thragtusk or whatever two fatties you have in your hand.
