Wizards of the Coast has revealed to MTV Geek that at Hasbro ToyShop in San Diego Comic-Con they will be offering a limited edition collection of "Magic: The Gathering" 2014's Planeswalker cards. The five cards will be presented with unique black-on-black art by Steve Prescott, variants of those found in the core Magic 2014 set. Below you will find both the Magic 2014 and the SDCC version of Garruk.
Garruk, Caller of Beasts 4GG
+1 Reveal the top five cards of your library. Put all creature cards revealed this way into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
-3 You may put a green creature card from your hand onto the battlefield
-7 You get an emblem with "Whenever you cast a creature spell, you may search your library for a creature card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library."

Just spoiled on MTV Geek along with a limited edition Black-on-Black collectors edition of all 5 M14 Planeswalkers being sold only at San Diego Comic Con.
Now trying to call in favors to have someone pick me up a set of those at the SDCC Hasbro booth. They will be HOT.
Also, the new Garruk seems pretty awesome. Sure, expensive. Can't protect himself with his plus ability. But that minus ability, holy crap. And that ultimate is very nice too.
Not sure about the plus ability as you will generally end up with a handful of creatures that you can't cast that turn. Possibly good at eight mana with bloodrush?
Typical play is going to be to go to 1, play huge green creature to protect him, then start ticking up the turn after and filling your hand with creatures.
The card is good, but the black on black art is pretty ugly IMO. I wouldn't want those for cube or anything. Of course, it's possible that they are foiled and look MUCH better in person, but otherwise it just seems like some kind of lazy art design.
Hoping this isn't real as this guy is unplayable outside of EDH. He's cool, but I was hoping for a green Liliana of the Veil, not a green Chandra Ablaze

- "Chandra, Pyromaster"?
- Oh God I want a set of those black-on-black walkers
- Expecting them to be absurdly expensive if they're only going to be given out/sold at SDCC, maybe upwards of $500/set.
- About Garruk himself: Seems a little weaker since his +1 can't protect himself, but I guess -3'ing right away will give you a nice blocker. Are there and big green fatties to cheat out? We have Worldspine Wurm, Bobo, and Craterhoof so far. His ultimate (like most others) is nuts, but a little impractical since if you're +1'ing him, you should already have a bunch of creatures to cast.
Still looking forward to the new Chandra more, she'll be the one that makes or breaks the set for me. =p
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.

6-cmc doesn't make a planeswalker unplayable (Sorin Markov saw play as a 1- and 2-of in some decks), especially not in green. The fact that he draws cards as his loyalty gainer (as opposed to Chandra discarding them) seems pretty relevant as well.
This is definitely the weakest Garruk they've printed yet. But I mean all the other Garruks were so powerful, this was kind of due...
Raw power-wise, he's fine, the problem is that six mana is really tough to get to and really needs to do more than this. At 5 mana, this could be a real contender. At 6, it's pretty much unplayable.

So in standard your only real targets for the -3 are worldspine wurm, craterhoof and elderscale wurm..?
And in modern this costs 6 so no thank you..
Hopefully the print some sweet green bombs in the next few sets >6 casting cost.
Don't forget green multicolor creatures which adds Borborgymos, which has seen play in fringe reanimator decks. But yeah, I expect Theros / M14 to add quite a few to the stable.
Dear everyone,
If you are going to SDCC, pick me up one of those sets. That looks amazing.
Love always,

I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.
"I trust myself to do my duty, even unto death. It's what comes after that I'm afraid of."
"Just fight without fear. Your soul is protected by the hand of Avacyn and will never submit to evil."

I think I'm the only one here not talking about Garruk's abilities. I'll wait till everyone calms down and we can start nitpicking at art and stuff.
