These are good, but my fave are still the lands from Tempest.
HUH, I had to go onto Card Kingdom to look at the Tempest land. Been A LONG TIME since I have seen them. Not to shabby. The Plains is especially gorgeous! However, a lot of it seems bland and almost to liner. But still beautifully done. Wouldn't say it is my favorite, but it is a heck of a lot better than Masques Block land.
More than a third of the cards in your average deck are lands. Spells you cast require the mana provided by lands. Sure, I guess you can call them "just lands". However, my point is you have to spend a lot of time turning them sideways and looking at them, so why not have ones that look good?
i love the second mountain, second swamp and the fourth island.

You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
Yay for the John Avon's Plains reprint!
That's my favourite, in case you can't tell
And I enjoy the rest of those, too. That second Mountain is gorgeous. Such a feeling of open space surrounded by the peaks.
Second Swamp, third Island, last Forest and last Mountain are also beautiful. Not that the rest are bad.
Yeah, they've served some really nice basics this time around.

What's the most resilient parasite? An idea.
A single idea from the human mind can build cities.
An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules...
It's funny. I still remember seeing the Mirage lands for the first time and thinking, oh my god these are amazing! You would think that Wizards couldn't keep outdoing themselves, but I find myself still in awe with every new set.
Yeah... Except Scavenging Ooze and Mutavault. And maybe Thoughtsieze. And a muscle sliver reprint.
Those aren't special. Those are typical reprint stuff that happens in every core set. It's not full art lands, or hidden treasures, or Lightning Bolt, etc.

I hate to be the one to argue but um...
Though Urza's Saga pretty much has my favorite land artwork of all time, these lands are still pretty neat looking. I'm particularly fond of the last mountain and forest.

Oh my, you are quite quick to judge, sir!
Aside from the (I'm assuming) derogatory reference to rules and statistics of MtG that I'm sure you and I both know I understand, I don't rip up basic lands, but rather donate them to my college playerbase and LGS for the newbies. I do have my art preference of basic lands, but they're just lands. No need to attack my character for stating the obvious.

Haha it was more of a joking jab than anything. I've just seen players say similar things and tear up lands, and although it's hard to assume, it was the first thing that came to mind! I just have a lot of respect for the basics. Without them, there wouldn't be magic!
Yeah, this is a way above average set of basics. The new ones are amazing. There aren't enough stunning swamps across Magic's history so the new swamps hit the top ten for me. This is perfect for my monocolor EDH decks because I use only one of each basic in them.
From the left to the right:
2nd and 4th Plains are interesting
All the Islands are good
2nd Swamp is interesting, and I love the reprint of the 3rd Swamp
2nd and 4th Mountains might actually be core set Mountains I like, will have to see them up close
Wanna see the 3rd and 4th Forests up close too.
But on the other hand, they're still core set basics and as such don't get me rarin' to go as much.
More Islands I'm going to have to collect. Love the set entirely. The plains are kind of boring but Plains are almost always boring (since White is the most boring color).
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
I like how Core Set basics really do look like natural unadulterated forms of their respective types. In expansions, they usually strech the meaning of basic lands to the point of them being unrecognizable (e.g. Ravnican Forests or Innistrad Islands)
All of the art featured, old or new, are looking great.

Mirage was IMO the highpoint of art in MTG.
