Yeh, what was this contest about? Liliana as an option is the only option. Anything else might be a "into the maw of obzedat" or "Shynight Legionare" bad picture. Wedon't want that to repeat.
Maw of the Obzedat has fantastic and creative art, what the hell are you talking about?

Failed Opression Stories:
Legend of Korra
Return to Ravnica
(Not that the stories or character are inhernetly bad, but that they failed to further delve into the topic. Like Gateless/Non-Benders feeling opressed by the Guilds/Benders that sought a revolution but it became less of importance according to the story.)
I didn't read through the descriptors, and voted Liliana. Because, you know, Liliana.
Disgusting. This is why we can't have nice art. Isn't Liliana being arbitrarily pasted on 5+ cards a year enough? Voting for an uninteresting art concept because it has breasts on it is how stereotypes about Magic players get created.
Only one description really fits the flavor of the card.
Three of the cards feature zombies rising up, and zombies are creatures. But the card deals with creatures, lands and non-creature/non-lands. The only art broad enough to fit that flavor is:
Waste Not
Bonus points for being a clever name. True, it doesn't feel like an enchantment. Still, it's the most clever of the bunch.
And Liliana is immediately ruled out because it's lame to have cards tied to planeswalkers.
...being awesome with a violin doesn't mean you're awesome at writing your own songs. And writing good songs doesn't mean you're good enough at playing an instrument or singing to get a contract with a label.
Reflecting Pool: You know, technically, I *CAN* make any color of mana.
Exotic Orchard: Prove it. Do it right now.
Reflecting Pool: Well, not right now. I need some condi....
Exotic Orchard: LIES. GO DIE IN A FIRE.
Reflecting Pool:
That's exactly what he meant. Theros block is technically already printed, the block afterwards is not, so they can print it in that block if they wish.
Not the whole block. I doubt that even the second set is started at the printers, and they probably still have plenty of wiggle room for the third set. Heck, they send sets back for reprint all the time, so there is likely time built in after the release of the set but before the second set is printed.
They do not print an entire block at once.
For all the Lilli voters talking about Steve Argyle...NO just NO! His art is mediocre at best, and vomit inducing at worst. I'd much rather have someone like Jason Chan, Terese Nielsen or Zoltan Boros do this card, and do it justice.
Argyle is great. His Liliana depictions have been really nice so far. He's no Scott M. Fischer, but then Fischer is my favorite magic artist.

What you call arbitrary, Wizards sees as branding. The PW are the face of the game, and Liliana is very popular and identifiable by the fans of the game, so it behooves WOTC to use them liberally.
You have just invalidated your opinions on anything magic art related. His stuff is overproduced computer trash. The original Stasis art is better than anything he's ever done.
that said i voted for season of the lich because it painted a more vivid picture than TITS!
Have to say, the pent up nerd sexual frustration definitely hurts the game. i.e. needing to have Lili's tits hanging out in every card that has her.
Recently my girlfriend started playing. Surprisingly she actually likes the game a lot and has a great time playing. But as a female, seeing the overly sexualized characters make the game look, I'm not sure the word for it, so I'll just say it in slang "cards for horny neckbeards"-esque. And we are not by any means socially conservative or prude people.

And you have invalidated your statement regarding subjective interpretation, since you are clearly person who cannot recognize that all opinions are equally valid when it comes to art appreciation.
You may be surprised (and would probably feel undeservedly superior) if you were to see the lines of people that are eager to meet Mr. Argyle this weekend and who willingly collect his art.

Can you not see how it is part of her character and her social class? I can agree that there are works if art on magic cards that are pretty over the top, but honestly I don't get why Liliana- a manipulative, high-class, selfish woman in a world ruled by men, would dress any different than she does. If you could control people (and you were a controlling person) as easily as putting on clothes that make them see you as non-threatening, why wouldn't you? It is not like she has any sexual morality to hold her back.

Mtg is pretty tame compared to something like, say, UFS. I can't help but laugh at how salacious the art on some of those cards are.

My favorite flavor text: Time of Heroes
Feel free to tell me yours!
Too many of us are extreme feminists. We all like to feel sexy, a form of power, and one of the perks of escaping into a game is you are offered many chances of being associated with whoever you like.
MtG as a whole is years beyond comfortable compared to fighting game boob physics, battle thong super heroes, and women whose meaning in life is to be rescued.
Yet we have a master thief every once in awhile who's not flat-chested and we cry foul. How quickly we forget how equal the sexes are in many a multiverse. How you can rise to rank of guild leader; be appointed or empowered to the status of a champion; uphold your post as the guardian of humanity's last bastion; or yes, be the temptress planeswalker who schemes above all others to get everything at any cost.
I understand that we're mostly a male community and that it's true that we sometimes fall too far in the sexism camp. But MtG is honestly no where near the bad examples that spearhead the front of gaming sexism.

Heck, they send sets back for reprint all the time, so there is likely time built in after the release of the set but before the second set is printed.

No they don't, true, but the do work on the blocks two years ahead of time, and also, they did note that the card would not be for theros at all.
AND on the topic of sexulization in card games, I play Cardfight!! Vanguard, and well, it makes liliana look like a school teacher, and not the naughty kind either. But the seductress trope is actually a time honored fantasy trope, even before the time of Robert E. Howard (writer of Conan).
That said I voted for liliana, as opposed to some of the other people here, I actually prefer the PW's to be in the artwork, as said before, they are actually the face of the game. I mean, seriously, it's all about branding .
EDIT: And BTW, I love Argyle's art, I don't care on what media the art was made, he isn't in my top three, two of those are taken by the Brothers Hildebrandt, and the third is Scott M. Fischer (followed by Richard Kane Furgesan, Argyle, Swanland, Dokken, ect ect ect, in that order). But just because someone uses one media or another, doesn't mean it is any less art, just a different form of art.

People will complain about anything
Especially when it comes to feminism which is based on complaining
A lot of it was justified back in the day, a there is still a long way to go but it also creates people who analyse everything not for what it is but rather how it does or doesn't fit their world view
If someone is used to looking at the world through the lens of analytical feminism then nothing is ever going to be good enough and they'd be right, the world is unfair and messed up; everybody knows it though and some of us are sick and tired of hearing about it, especially when it's as trivial (and somewhat misguided) as saying MtG is sexist

"We're racist, but only kinda racist, especially compared to those other guys."
It's not sexism to depict attractive women. No matter how you put it or the social context, it simply isn't.
There are depictions of attractive men in so many places. The whole billionaire celebrity industry (that goes from movies, music, sports, fashion) uses attractive people of both genres intensively.
People like to see attract people. Sex sells. It sells for men and for women and the depictions are 100% a matter of demographics. My GF is a RE junkie because of Leon and Chris and that happen all the freaking time.
There plenty of merit in analytic feminism, but stop pretending you're one. You don't know how to find sexism in stuff, you guys simply don't and to believe you is to twist the whole discipline to fit your twisted world view. Feminism rules but haters do a lot of injustice to the cause, all the freaking time.
So yeah, if you want boobs you can vote for boobs, wherever. I bet if this game had a larger women demographics and in some vote there was a attractive men vote, as many women would go for that. Sorry to crush your dreams but in this world beauty is a end in itself. Women like attract men at least as much as men like attractive women.
Glad to see Waste Not win; while it's not as eerie as the description of Season of the Lich, it's still more unique and distinctive than the other options.
Speaking of which, the thing that personally bugs me about the "Lilliana's Wake" option was that the art description was boring. It sounds like one you could find on virtually any other black zombie spell. Why does adding Lilliana make it any more interesting and memorable?
