As someone who runs a Wizards Play Network store, I can say that this is not the case if you have filed the appropriate paperwork with Wizards of the Coast. There is an agreement to fill out to sell things over the internet. You cannot sell sealed product internationally, but other than that, you can dump all your product online if you want.
I will say that I believe that it's a bad business move, though.
Good to hear, since you're my main store! Wish my Game Day had gone a little better, but I'm totally rusty.
You're selling MM boxes for $200, right?

We haven't announced a price on Modern Masters. We are a business, and businesses exist to make money. That being said, we are putting aside enough product for a 24-player 5-week league and at *least* one month of drafting 16 players a week.
Keep in mind, too, that the hysteria over this product could well be of little consequence. Once people see that each store is capable of getting ~30-60 boxes, maybe then supply will alter the demand for the product. Wizards will have a small amount trickling out over time through their direct sales program as well. We're choosing to remain conservative. We know we want to do a lot of events over selling the boxes straight up, because drafting this set looks like it's going to be amazing fun.
Do you not travel south of the border? I know that at least 2 Portland stores sold all of their FTV (I bought on in the last release) and CA to customers or used them as prize support.
Nope, gas is too expensive to head down, plus I judge at the Washougal store. But the 4 in either Vancouver or Washougal sold theirs online.

You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Edit: Also there's a black rare that has some ability like Prowl and it's a Goblin Rogue? I remember looking at it thinking I didn't know this card existed - looked it up and I think it's Earwig Squad
Edit 2: Whilst looking up Earwig Squad, saw Bridge from Below and remembered that was in it, in a normal card frame
Gotta say, and meaning no offense, but I'm always amused by the 'we're a business' excuses/comments I hear regarding pricing. Now granted I don't know, so if I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I don't think that the going rate for boxes of MM does or should effect what a store gets boxes from WOTC for. So saying 'we're a business' just tells me they want to make a little extra because everyone else is doing it.
That being said, I'm looking forward to getting my box (at the $200 price point...which I think is still over MSRP, but well below the $300 I've seen some places) and I have a second on reserve that I may or may not get depending on what the business chooses to price it at... in other words, if they say $300, I'll take my down payment back and go merrily on my way.
Did I mention the set is looking fun?!?? Yeah...all kinds of psyched and hope to pull a few awesome things.

Huh. I am back and forth between the Couve and Portland several times a week, never seemed like such a long drive to me. Might be worth your time and money if you are looking to get a premium product you are having trouble finding. No sales tax too, as I am sure you are aware.
Questions, questions
So Wizards said the purpose of this is to get players into the format. Do you think it's gonna succeed in that goal?
If more players would come into Modern, that would mean the cards would get even more value (demand) minus the effect of this reprint (supply).
Me, playing magic for years but making big pauses in between, never ever played Modern and this set definitely won't convince me to invest any money on it.

if this set do what they want it to do: fun Draft lowing prices of some staples and selling well
then we probablly gonna see MM2...
they will reprint cards like path to exile that is overpriced to put its price down
if you want to buy some cards for cheap then buy it from LGS while the set is being open

It's about realism.
Why lose $100 per box if you don't have to?
Keep in mind, most LGS's (NextGen included) are small businesses,
and they don't have the easiest time turning profit.
At least they aren't selling their stock on eBay-
that's one of the reasons I go there.
As they said, the price of this is likely to fluctuate as the customers get a true feel for the scope of the reprint-
just look at how much the prices on FTV: Realms fluctuated;
You can get it much cheaper now than right before it was released.
Hype settles down, and prices do too (to some degree).
Bridge from Below is great news,
as is Maelstrom Pulse.
I prefer the original MP art, but it'll be nice to have the Promo in nonfoil.
Earwig Squad is a personal favorite, but rather surprising to see here.
EDIT: Blinkmoth Nexus? Are you sure it wasn't Inkmoth Nexus?
Oh well, I guess the Blinkies are more expensive. Makes sense.

Why is everyone talking like the reprints are going to be worth the same amount as the originals...
Remember one thing, when this set starts getting cracked open, the market will literally be flooded with Modern Masters within weeks.
It's a limited print run. It's not even as much as a normal expert set. While a lot of people believe they'll be worth less, it's wrong to think they'll be worth a LOT less. You also forget that many cards may be worth more, because they have new artwork, or are in a Modern Frame for the first time, or a black border for the first time in a a while.
Wizards printed more of this set than you think. Just because they say "limited print run" doesn't mean anything special. Stores are already surprised by how much product they are getting after the initial information was released.
If you think that you will be getting good returns from opening these, take a look at what happened to the market when Chronicles hit the shelves.
Chronicles more than tripled the supply of the cards it reprinted. This won't even increase the supply by 50%. Again, if you have evidence that this is as widely reprinted as Chronicles, cite your source. Here is mine.

Modern isn`t nearly as popular as Standard, even if you combine Modern and Legacy you still aren`t close to Standard. Printing this at expert set levels would crash prices. Imagine this had the same print run as RTR with the lower demand.
Also, increasing supply by 50% could easily be an increase of 100% in the number of cards in the hands of active players/store inventory. The vast majority of cards, over the long run, wind up in closets.
With so many conflicting stores about availability it`s hard to tell what the true value will be.
I have a feeling anything under Mythic will take at least a 25% hit, minus maybe the top 5-10 rares. This is due to it being a reprint and increased availability.
I have to say, I am surprised at the content so far, a lot more value than I expected from WoTC.
Do we have any confirmation of what is getting new art off the list from the OP list or would Viper had posted "new art" next to the card if it had new art?
Also, does Daybreak Coronet fit into the name and number crunch? I really want to that card reprinted in modern frame and new art!
You would swear by people's attitudes on here that wotc made the MSRP $300. If u want to get mad at someone, get mad at ur lcs. Go there and tell them u will be buying ur cards elsewhere or online now. Get a few friends to do so as well. They will take notice! My lcs is doing $25 drafts which is more than fair. To those who can't find a box under $300...wait 2-3weeks after release...eBay will have them for $225-250.
As to how limited the print run is, the owner of my lgs said stores could order a maximum of 36-40 boxes, and are only allowed one significantly smaller restock each. I don't know if that holds true for everyone, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't, although admittedly I don't know the ins and outs of getting magic bulk product from wotc.
With Maelstrom Pulse in Worm Harvest has to really be an uncommon! There's room only for ~10 multicolor/hybrid rares and every one so far (7/10) represents a different color pair. Missing a :symwu:, a and rare (although for the last one maybe Sarkhan counts).
Only 4 of those will get you more than the $12 back you spent. An only 1-2 will break you even. And most of those will tank in value since they aren't mythic here.
Yep.
A $6 card may be a "money card" usually. But not if packs are 12.
You can't make money buying mtg packs. Don't be stupid.
It looks like that each combination of colors has either a multicolor card or a hybrid card as a rare (we're still missing the GR rare card) and that Worm Harvest is really uncommon.
A store owner in Greece, Heraklion Crete (the 5th-6th largest city in the country) is getting 24 boxes of Modern Masters. If he can get that much, I can't believe this to be "limited"...
Think of this in terms of FTV or Commander's Arsenal:
Stores receive approx 20 FTV Box Sets, and they got 5 Commander's Arsenal if they met WOTC criterion as a premier store. This means if all of these sets were cracked for singles:
You'd have 20 copies of each card if you opened FTV
You'd have 5 copies of each card if you opened Commander's Arsenal.
This is for every store that qualified to receive these product - so likely this store in Greece would have gotten this allocation of FTV/CA
Let's say you get 24 boxes of Modern Masters, and crack them all for singles. This is 576 Booster Packs. You get any given Mythic one out of every 121 packs, and any given Rare one out of every 60.5 packs.
Total # of each mythic (Assuming perfect distribution): 4.76
Total # of each Rare (Assuming perfect distribution): 9.52
So in other words, 24 boxes of product, if you cracked them for singles, should yield fewer copies of any individual mythic than commander's Arsenal, and half as many of any rare than From The Vault, for that individual store's supply of Modern cards.
To me, this counts as an extremely limited supply. That's one playset of Tarmogoyfs (plus one extra, if they're lucky) that are going to be opened by the players in that store.
