Actually, we've got 6 now, including two red commons, so it's likely we're looking at a minimum of 20 slivers, unless they decide to restrict the colors.
Those were spoiled as I was typing up the post. Didn't expect them to go crazy spoil happy!
On a side note, I have to say I am not a fan of the new appearances, nor I am I fan of making them 1 sided bonuses. Kinda defeats the whole point of "collective hivemind no matter who owns them". Also dumbs it down quite a bit.
I am very excited for this! I've been wanting to build a sliver deck for quite some time. The slivers look quite different this time around though...
My bet would be because it's a new hive, and we will get a Mythic rare legendary queen that's different enough to not be a functional reprint. Maybe this is the original hive?
First, is it absolutely confirmed that slivers shall return in Magic 2014? Second, if that is true, why do these new slivers not appear even remotely similar in physical appearance to the slivers of previous sets?

Considering all they were in previous sets were artificial living metal creatures basically that rapidly evolve, anything is possible with how they appear.

Wizards is spoiling the images WITH THE M14 SYMBOL on the cards....
I'm a touch disappointed...These are the neutered inbred third cousins of slivers by the look of it. A lot of sliver fun came from the globalness of them.
I'm just talking mechanically. I have 0 problems with the new look.
As someone who started the game with slivers in Legions (and even made their account name based on slivers), I am very disappointed with these new slivers. I will go into the reasoning why.
1. Look: I always LOVED slivers from their distinctively shaped heads, claws and tails. Not these humanoid alien/predator offspring.
2. Single-sidedness. The flavor to slivers is what they had they MUST share with the Hive. That was both a blessing and a curse, as a sliver's ability could be a boon (like most slivers) or a "downside" (like Plague Sliver).
3. The relatively "boring" design: So far, all slivers previewed have simply given keyword abilities. While this may just be the slivers that have been spoiled so far, the most interesting slivers were always the ones that gave really unique effects.
4. Costed efficiently: Slivers HAD to give groundbreaking effects. Apart from applying their effects to themselves, slivers are basically vanilla bodies. They have to have powerful and appropriately priced bodies to deal with this fact.
Tl;dr - I'm not impressed, Wizards. Do something to impress me, I don't see why you're waiting.
Kind of odd that we can see the rest of the cards in full, but not Sliver Queen.
Not sure what the implication here is. It seems incredibly unlikely they'd break the reserve list now, especially after pushing Modern so hard.
It was confirmed that Sliver Queen is not being reprinted. It's highly likely it was just intended as a teaser, given it's a shot of the Commander's Arsenal Sliver Queen.
Second, if that is true, why do these new slivers not appear even remotely similar in physical appearance to the slivers of previous sets?
Why do you care? Do you want a Vorthos reason? "Mana resonance... time spiral... evolution... mumble...." As far as the artwork, why do any reprinted cards with new art not appear similar to the original art? It's just a game. Relax.
I'm intrigued by the new developments of slivers into what look like sentient creatures. Slivers are the ultimate evolution creatures, so this is a natural extension of what Slivers actually are. So yeah, they're different. Deal with it, yo.
I think I'm in the small minority here that actually quite enjoys the new look of the slivers. The old slivers, in many respects, all looked the same artistically speaking. For a species that is supposed to be rapidly evolving, they never once looked like they were really evolving past their primordial physical forms.
I want a sliver mythic, but not a walker.

I'll miss the "global" slivers though.

Yes, although "return" in the sense of reprints is not absolutely confirmed yet, but 99% likely. As far as new slivers, 100% confirmed.

These are some sort of impostor slivers - Slivers are supposed to always be a double edged sword, has WOTC forgotten?
