Dolphins are still part of the suborder odontoceti, the "toothed whales".
Also, the word 'whale' is not a scientific term, but a common word to describe either all cetaceans as a whole or all cetaceans excluding dolphins and porpoises. So, since there are multiple interpretations of the word, I don't think you can say that "technically" giving the Killer Whale the whale type is wrong.
You can't unless there is a creature type dolphin. I'll concede that. I still hate the name "Killer Whale". We don't call Dolphins "Mini Whales".
I don't get the joke. Since it exiles target creature opponent controls upon attacking (Eating an creature)...wouldn't it just exile Emmara at that point? Am I missing something?

I hope there are more whales with feet and wings in future sets
Given that you can equip boots to this whale, I don't think there's to much of an issue with it not having Islandhome, especially since they don't do all-downside abilities anymore (with very few exceptions).

why must emmara have such flavor fail!?!!?
back on topic.
this is a non legendary grimgrim corpse born that does not need to sac creatures to untap, does not get bigger, has islanwalk, exiles creatures as long as its on the battlefield and is 7 cc instead of 5.
yup, adding it to reanimator, who knows what might happen
1) How is that a blue ability? The only other card I can think of that does this is Parallax Tide - which works on lands only and was part of a mini-cycle.
1. There is no white card that exiles and returns a creature belonging to a defending player.
Blue cards that exile and return:
day of the dragons
icy prison
deadeye navigator
ghostly flicker
aetherling
nephalia smuggler
Wormfang Crab
Wormfang Drake
Isn't it really weird how Whale's triggered ability is one ability with a duration instead a pair of linked triggered abilities?
Isn't it normally "When ~ attacks, exile target creature defending player controls", and "When ~ leaves the battlefield, return all creatures exiled by ~ to the battlefield under their owner's control" (a la something like Fiend Hunter)?
I don't think that this is functionally different, though. The "return event" should still be a trigger, and you should still be able to permanently exile a creature you sac it with its exile trigger on the stack.
Just really weird wording.
it is functionally different.
1. you can't permanently exile the card.
2. it's not exiled if the whale leaves the battlefield before the trigger resolves.
I can't believe all the people talking about how this is a "flavor" fail and spout nonsense like "this destroys the color pie" and "5/5s are tiny"/"LoLz Emmara a tiny elf curb stomps it"... It's just mind boggling.
First Blue most certainly does get exile effects. Heck blue does "Monster/shapeshifter eats your creature" effects more then any other color (see stuff like Phyrexian Ingester). Second, a creatures power and toughness is hardly simply it's physical attributes (though those can effect things). Just as often it's a creature's skills (magical or weapon skill for example is often the explaination of why a human size character can have very high power/toughness) or even the creature's temperament (as I would say the case is with this card) can effect a creature's power/toughness from a flavor standpoint. This whale might be very large but if it's not aggressive (or even worse if it's too big to even notice what it's fighting or, in this case, eating) it's not going to be especially effective in a fight, giant size or not.
I don't get the joke. Since it exiles target creature opponent controls upon attacking (Eating an creature)...wouldn't it just exile Emmara at that point? Am I missing something?
Now I really really want to see someone draw a whale surfacing next to a ship, utterly dwarfing the thing... and with a conspicuously Emmara-shaped silhouette bulging out of it like a snake that ate something far larger than itself.

This guy sucks compared to Stormtide IMO. At least with Stormtide you were getting good tribal synergy (see cards like Quest for Ula's Temple), blocking all ground defenders, and a lot of decent bulk. This guy doesn't hurt for much and can easily be chump blocked. I guess I just don't understand why he isn't bigger, especially given his size. Kind of a shame too, I really like the art.
