I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
You can only kill one drop dude in turn 3, and only two drop dudes in turn 4. Way worse than supreme verdict.
Naya Blitz will be attacking with lethal with mayor, burning tree, and frontline medic in turn 4.
The only deck that is almost certainly lose to ratchet bomb is tokens, or deck that are extremely dependent on a particular mana cost to work, eg tokens, immortal servitude combo deck, or to a lesser extent, Modern elves and merfolk.
It's "way worse than Surpreme Verdict" when you don't take into account that it doesn't require three colored mana and you don't have to spend mana to add charge counters and build it up, nor to sacrifice it when you need to. It's a rattlesnake and shouldn't even be compared to Supreme Verdict because they're both for completely different things.
The difference is that this card can be activated whenever or tick up to kill Voice or Smiters. Verdict & Granite will most likely require you to tap out, you can easily respond Rootborn Defenses. A ratchet bomb on board means you won't tap out end of turn for Advent. Costing 2 mana allows you to be more versatile with your mana. I don't mind casting Revelation for a bunch knowing I can draw Ratchet Bomb & Verdict as opposed to hoping to draw Verdict.
Ratchet Bomb on board forces you the Token player to play more conservative and no longer flood the board. For control players this is a God send; I will gladly play a 2 mana spell that allows me to live another 5-7 turns as opposed to hoping Verdict resolves on Turn 4.
Ratchet Bomb for Midrange decks like Control helps them last until turn 5+ to play their spells. Aggro decks will use this as a one sided Pyroclasm, but this is where Ratchet Bomb is bad because they are forced to simply use it to kill tokens, not tick it up to deal with Voice. Aggro decks should focus more on hitting all their early drops or preventing life gain post board, not trying to kill all the tokens.
Ratchet Bomb, eh? Hmmmm .... I think I'm okay with this reprint.
I wonder if Trading Post shenanigans might be in order for a couple months before it rotates. If only they'd reprint Sad Robot and Ichor Wellspring, too ...

I'm surprised that no one's pointed out Vorel yet. Yes, it's nasty to tokens, but with him, you can Ratchet Bomb big nasties too.
You can also use Vorel to double the counters on your opponent's ratchet bomb to make it near useless. he ratchets it up to 3 charges, you bump it up to six, then next time you untap double it up to 12 and that's a bomb that wont hit much.
That's a nice Selesnya RTR Block deck you have there.
It would be a shame
if something were
to happen to it...
Just when I was going, "Hey that Block list looks pretty cool for next standard season! I think I'm gonna start building it." Than this shows up. Couldn't they have waited until m15?
Playing around this card will be obnoxious at best.
Oh look, a poster complaining. These kind of posts tend to be pretty annoying. Oh well, that's MTGS for you!
Oh look, I'm complaining about you complaining about complaining again. (insert Yo Dawg! here).
On topic, nice to see ratchet bomb making a return, loved playing with it before and it's a great card to have coming back, also, anyone have the promo art for us?

Ravnica block has given us ample token strategies.
However, Ratchet Bomb makes Lingering Souls a little less powerful for sure.
Ahh, solid removal without color restrictions Best of good news outside of omg news, and finally nice artifact in this set.

Could make for some funny alters, admittedly.
