I don't think Modern Masters will kill Magic. I do, however, think it may be representative of short term strategy with long term implications.
This was in response to the idea that Modern Masters won't lower Modern staple prices, and that any value cards will, like Goyf, be shifted up in rarity to decrease our chances of getting them.
Again, let's see the spoiled list first, but I do have a general overall worry that Wizards is not addressing the issue of player retention, and is getting very greedy in the short term profits that can be had from a booming player base.
Modern Masters may or may not be another indicator of this. It may be an indicator of the opposite. It ain't going to kill Magic (but it might help kill a lot of player's interest in it).
Me? I'm actually quite excited for it. I love Modern and am in favor of anything that attracts attention to the format. I am just worried about the idea of these shifting rarities and lack of decreasing staple prices.
Just because goyf is mythic doesn't mean prices of ridiculous uncommons like finks, ether vial and path aren't going to be at least slightly rectified. I look forward to being able to trade around locally for some of these staples without dipping into peoples "I'll only trade this for a ridiculous one sided bargain" binders.

I think spoilers for mm will be exciting, spoilers are always nice.
I expect they will be. It'll be fun to watch the havoc that goes on while websites and players try to figure out exactly where to price things that are shown to be reprinted. (what with incomplete information about the quantity that will enter the market as well as shifts in demand due to this influx).
Do the timeshift cards (Finkel, Mystic Snake) have a chance of being here? I would love new border version of them. But then, I'm not really sure if timeshift cards really count as being in Time Sprial block or not.

They certainly count as being modern legal cards, so I hope so. I'd really like to get the only non-modern frame Lords out of my Merfolk deck.

Yes, they are and do. In fact, the fact they haven't been in Modern frames yet makes them especially good candidates for reprints.
Do we have any idea when they are going to start spoiling more cards?
Read the thread... a couple of posts up it's said we'll see spoilers in a couple of weeks, which is pretty much what we've been speculating for the last 5 pages.
I've been doing magic events for over 12 years in a small town. As an Advanced store I can get more stuff and please more players. There isn't much mark up for Magic. I am small. My booster box cost is around $78-83...If I sell a sealed box for 100-104, that isn't much of a profit. My last booster draft tournament was $15 - lots of prizes, door prizes, pizza, soda, etc...There is no profit margin. BUT those players return to the store to buy their cards and supplies. The DGM pre-release events were $25 each - which included a LOT of food. For MM I am doing a $21 draft. I am getting a reasonably nice order and will be able to sell a few sealed boxes for $180 while my players see them being sold on EBAY for much more. There has been a LOT of Magic coming out in a condensed period of time so players can't afford everything. Therefore, I keep fees minimal so they can enjoy them all. My booster packs are all 3/$10 in store. Happy customers return...and therein lies the key.
Your points, in order: I am not in conflict here. Charging over MSRP is common, since it pays for the prize fund of the draft. Unless you have a store that only charges $12 per draft normally (which, kudos if you do), any extra entry fee on top of the cost of product is what goes into the prize fund. I see that completely differently than gouging over MSRP on individual pack sales, ie charging $9.99 a booster just because I can. Charging more on an entry fee is completely different.
Second, yes, I do like to make money on the summer product. Planechase sold out completely at MSRP. Commander sold out completely at MSRP. Heck, even Archenemy sold out at my shop. Small release sets like these help to salve the lost profits in booster box profit margin losses - as said, I charge $99.99 per box, against a cost of $73.08, whereas my retail markup is $144.00. I sacrifice this retail markup because it is the cost of doing business, and because single sales make up that margin most of the time. But when special products come out, they tend to sell at full MSRP, and I am counting this set as one of those, and those need to make money to help offset those losses.
Third, while I would certainly be willing to run infi drafts, take the loss, and make up for the profit in volume, that option does not exist for this product because we cannot order that volume. Orders are limited and may or may not be reprinted, although I expect them to. Regular Magic sets, on the other hand, can be ordered for entire life cycles at wholesale and can provide that volume profit to make up for the incremental loss.
While I do take your points, I would like to hear from those who have run shops who survive purely on regular Magic boosters/singles, because the nature of the business prevents the retail aspect from being realistic at this point. I've been running the shop for 5 years, and these are merely my observations.
So anyone else find it irritating that we have more official spoilers for M14 than we do for MM? M14 releases a month afterward MM does, yet we have gotten just in the last hour 6 new spoiled cards for M14. This doesn't count all the "unofficial" DotP 2014 cards that people found during the PAX demo. As of right now, the only "officially" spoiled MM card is still goyf.
I understand that MM is all reprints and likely geared towards those of us who will buy it regardless of what's in it, but come on. Throw us a bone here.
Did you not check the first page?
I did but when looking at Wizards product list they dont mention anything about Modern Masters which is why im a bit confused

Spoilers won't be for a couple more weeks peoples...
Welp looks like they're going to dump them the week before release. That's pretty uncool of them.

What on earth are you talking about? You play around it by playing into it and giggling maniacally if they 2:1 themselves.

It would be dumb not to.

Unless you're at a GP or PT, you should always value draft. It's nice to have already won before you build your deck.
