Draft-only policy for LGS is a good way to satisfy most players.
If they just sell the boxes at MSRP, their whole stock would be immediately bought out by several rich guys, in <1 hour after the boxes reach the shop.

Leaving a crowd of angry players.
It also gets less people hoarding the packs for resell later and more people trading. All in all better for the market, which is better for us! And more fun in the process.
I would love to be able to crack my boosters and sell the singles for the good of the game; that was my initial motivation. But I'm also feeling a lot of pressure to sell the cases unopened if they are going to appreciate in value so quickly. I realize that, over time, cracking boosters will not be profitable, but Modern Masters may be a unique case where cracking boosters might be a viable option, especially if so many people are just going to sit on theirs. The question is, will buyers be willing to pay a premium for Modern Masters singles because they'll be hard to get and some will have alternative art, or will they expect to pay less than the staples they are reprinting?

Only more fun if you enjoy wasting 4 hours in order to get 3-5 packs. I think these
They're erring on the conservative side of quantity, and probably aren't going to be printing another batch. Even if it's a massive success, they probably wouldn't be able to secure a good place in the printing queue to capitalize on it (ie, they'd be able to print more MM like a year after people wanted to buy it).
(Also, they're only doing it in english which is a big "this is a test run" kind of a flag.)
The reason why is they have no metrics whatsoever and have to make some guesses to how the product will go over. The last time they did a reprint set was Chronicles, and it cost them a ton of money from the surplus cards printed.
Modern Masters is no Chronicles (and no Magic Online Masters while you're at it), but it's still an untested product for them.
If it goes well, no doubt there might be a 2016 MM edition and such. I think that goes without saying.
My point was more that there was no real way of knowing what "limited" is. They could do a run 1/4 the size of RTR for instance and it would still fit all their descriptions, but wouldn't be as ridiculously short handed as some people seem to think.
Interestingly enough the LGS I went to for the DGM pre-release didn't even know yet if they were getting it or how much....

I guess I'm a little biased because I love to draft, I just didn't realize there was that many people that dislike draft out there. It'd probably be fair if the stores doing draft only for selling the packs would let people come and either choose to draft or buy the same amount of packs they would get if they drafted and not play. That gives everyone a chance to get them at least without ruining drafting for anyone (even though people will be rare pulling like crazy anyways), and it doesn't waste the peoples time who dislike drafting.

Well, the problem isn't really drafters vs. modern constructed players, its the damn low supply. There should have been enough of this printed so that a) you drafters can draft, and b) we modern constructers can buy packs and maybe boxes, crack, and construct.
The idea of someone signing up for a draft, taking his or her cards, then leaving is indeed lame. The idea of someone saying "Can I buy some packs of Modern Masters" and being told, sorry, they are only sold for drafting is equally lame.
Wizards really needs to print more of this. Maybe it needs to print less of the CORE to compensate.

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?

Yes, it's not like they printed more Commander sets after the first batch sold out in less than two weeks nearly everywhere... Not at all...
If the set is a huge success (and everything indicates that it will be), then they will likely print a second batch of cards if they feel it would be worth the cost.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).

Yeah, it is a bit ridiculous that the stores even have to make a choice that no matter what they decide will leave someone unhappy. Also equally ridiculous that wizards would print something like this in such limited supply, when their paying customers will want to buy more and many are left unhappy. I read an article where they mentioned that the amount of people unhappy about arsenal's limited print run was taken into consideration when finalizing the print run. So you would think that they would have chose to print enough to keep everyone happy, but if there are stores still doing draft only then that might not be the case.
So.... I'd reckon this stuff will sell twice the MSRP price per pack?
Highly unlikely initially, when they run out and announce to the distributors that there was only a 2nd wave then possibly. However right now all we know is there is more than the initial wave of product, and we have no clue how much is to follow after the initial wave.
Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
Price is a far greater determinant than "has it been reprinted recently". However, inasmuch as Mindslaver's reprint driven down the price, I would doubt it would be in Modern Masters. Remember, MM is about reprinting Modern Staples that are in high demand and limited supply resulting in a high price. There are plenty of Mindslaver's now.

There's no way the whole set is just valuable reprints though, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of cheapo rares that are fun in limited as well as under a dollar casual favorites. Mindslaver totally fits that.

It is also a wasted reprint, because there are many cards fitting that criteria that WoTC does not necessarily want to be in standard.
I can't see them including cards that were reprinted in standard sets released after Alara Reborn.

First and foremost, the set is packed with the greatest hits from over six years' worth of expansions. The power-level of the cards in these boosters is very high compared to the average, and we didn't want to make every other set we have in the pipeline comparatively unattractive from a price standpoint by charging too little for this one.
And:
A little over a year ago, we announced the creation of the Modern constructed format—a non-rotating format in which cards from Eighth Edition forward are legal. We knew that many players wanted a non-rotating format in which to keep playing their older cards, but the best alternative at the time—Legacy—was, and still is, hampered by card availability problems that stem from our Reserved List (a policy that prevents us from reprinting several cards from Magic's early days, many of which are tournament mainstays). Since our hands are tied when it comes to growing Legacy, we made the decision to create a similar, smaller format for which we had no restrictions about what we could reprint.
In the months since, there has been a pair of Modern Pro Tours, several highly-attended Grand Prix, a PTQ season, and it was a big part of the Magic Players Championship. There are daily tournaments in the format quite regularly on Magic Online and, most encouragingly, there are Modern tournaments being run in stores without any program or other prodding from us. In short, the format is catching on nicely. But Magic has been growing and growing to never-before-achieved numbers of players in the past few years, and as the community has grown, so have rumblings over card availability for Modern.
I made a big deal early in the format's life that not only were we allowed to reprint the staple cards of the format, but that we actively planned to do so. A good bit of that rhetoric was anchored in the fact that I knew the ten "shocklands" were slated to appear in Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash; similarly, a couple other big Modern cards are slated to show up in other Standard-legal sets down the line. But we didn't have a great solution for getting more copies of cards that are too powerful to reintroduce to Standard into circulation. (If you're wondering, yes, we debated many times the possibility of having Tarmogoyf return to Standard but ultimately decided we didn't want to do it.)
While printing some cheap commons is necessary to support the limited format, printing cheap rares doesn't do anything to help Modern. They aren't staples that they need to print more of to meet increasing demand; if they were, they wouldn't be cheap. And if the card is good but not too good, then there's a good chance they'll save it for reprinting in Standard. So we're talking mostly about cards that are TOO GOOD FOR STANDARD and HAVE A HIGH VALUE IN MODERN.
If this set had the "usual ratio" of good rares to junk rares, they wouldn't be able to charge $7 a pack.
If you don't enjoy playing the game please don't buy the product from game stores.
I would NEVER join a draft and then drop for product. I respect that some people like limited and would not intentionally ruin their game to get this product. That is the rub for me, because I have not found a local shop that is selling them, and have not seen a price online that I find reasonable and can get to soon enough. That means no product for this Modern (a constructed format, mind you) player.
If all you want is to hoard product, buy it bulk online somewhere.
I don't want to hoard product, I want to buy packs, crack them, and use what I get for modern constructed play...ya know, the people the set is supposed to serve. Heck, I only want one box (I might buy 2 if I found a great price) for my self and my son. Your allegation is ignorant and unwarranted.
What rarity do you guys think kitchen finks will be reprinted at? Just curous on everybody's thoughts.
Rare, but all my friends are betting uncommon. I think they underestimated finks when they made it uncommon, and any creature with multiple effects is likely to sit at rare.

Yo can't netdeck in limited so that will instantly lead to a lot of people claiming limited sucks

At least there will be people drafting the set and looking to trade some of the cards. Not quite as fun as cracking a box, so it kind of sucks.. But at least it will be easier to pick up the cards that you need. Although, I'm hoping that there's enough printed that someone can walk into a shop see the packs on the shelf, at least for a little while. It's always sad when products like this never even see the shelf.

I should hope not, for a small set there should not be upgrades -
if Vendilion Clique & Dark Confidant are moved to mythics I'll probably pass on drafting.

I expect cards like it to be in the set, like Woodfall Primus, Academy Ruins, and other $$$ Commander cards.
Finks is going to be reprinted as uncommon. It is too miserable to play against to be common.
