A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
Since the thread has gone full circle for the nth time, I might aswell say this again.
Every card in the set is a reprint, the price of those cards are going to come down. It's that simple. The sky is not falling and you'll have your playset of goyfs for $200 or under this time next year, i guarantee you. Unless of course you want to throw all common sense out the window and buy a box, open it and get $100 worth of product.
Yes this thread is really going in loops. That said it should be stated that you are over simplifying things.
Reprinted common prices should go way down across the board
Reprinted uncommon prices should go significantly down across the board
Reprinted rare prices will vary... for high value staples such as thoughtseize the price will go down but likely not a ton and could easily recover their price by next years modern season... for cards that were $5 prior to MM they likely will go down a lot and stay there for a good while.
Reprinted mythics will be even more variable. High end ones such as tarmogoyf will likely see a dip in the short term due to the increased supply but recover most of their value for next years modern season as this product should bring more people to the format... AND is not adding a lot of volume for the mythics. That said if some more casual cards are at mythic (such as crucible of worlds) the impact on those could be greater as that would be a good increase to supply with probably not a big increase to demand as casual drive those prices... not modern.
WOTC has stated they wanted to only increase the supply of these mythics by a fraction of their current ammount... I think they'll be playing it safe this time around and all indications of product allotments point to that. There's nothing stopping them from putting goyf in MM2 as well afterall... but if they overshoot in the opposite direction (ala Chronicles) they will have a debacle on their hands.

ok sounds good
In a year, goyf will cost even more than it does now. Especially if wotc succeeds in making Modern a more popular format. The only way it could be as cheap as you guarantee is if it gets banned.

So I can buy Tarmogoyfs off of you for $50 in a year? It's very true that Modern Masters will increase the supply of the cards printed in it. However, the demand for the cards is something we won't really be able to determine. I myself decided to get into Modern because I saw the support WotC was providing for the format with the advent of this product.
Unlike many here, I don't suppose this will be far from a reality in 9-12 months.
Are you predicting a ban on him?
I've heard that MM will have a banned card in it (someone at wotc said something to this effect on twitter?) but I'd be very surprised if goyf was that card.

The banned card may be BBE, but not Goyf. No I'm not predicting a ban, I'm predicting that his price will drop.

If they said that, I'd suspect that they put Bloodbraid Elf or Seething Song into the set before the ban announcement, and not that something else is about to get banned. There's absolutely zero evidence pointing to a Goyf ban.

I agree with you, I said I don't think it would be goyf. BBE and Seething Song are great guesses that I suspected as well.
A banning or a new printing that obsoletes goyf are the only ways he's going down though.

I'll take that bet. If a year from now, a playset of goyfs is at or under $200, I'll buy you a playset of goyfs. If a year from now, a playset of goyfs is over $200, you buy me a playset of goyfs. Sound good?

Either way bruce, you're on the winning side of that. If you lose, you only have to spend less than $200, as opposed to Reused, who will probably be paying at least $400 if he's wrong!

Well, it's correct to say my upside is better. But since he's certain he's right it's no big risk to him.
I remember them saying something along the lines of "We were wary of adding cards [in Modern Masters] that are on the watch list to be banned." I wouldn't be surprised if BBE was left out for this reason. I could definitely see Seething Song make an appearance, though. They said Storm was draftable, after all.

It's BBE. They said at banning time that they didn't have enough lead time to take it out and that they're disappointed players will open an unplayable card.

What percentage of people opening up MM will actually be doing so exclusively for Modern?
I'd be very excited if I opened a BBE in a draft event, and I can certainly use more for my Legacy decks.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
I can confirm the small LGS I attend is getting 18 boxes. They are only selling the product for drafts ($25). Any leftover products will be sold to the most faithful customers.

$25 isn't a bad price for a draft of this, I hope I can get some drafting of it done since I am probably just going to crack all the packs in my box.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
It's actully going to be like an old core set, all reprints, just that it is meant for modern instead of standard.

Plus BBE was like Finks in that it was an uncommon modern staple that desperately needed a reprint preban... just like PtE and a few others.

Lol, it said 3 in stock for me... but I passed. Rather spend retail price for LGS.
Then I guess you saw it right before I did
I'm not convinced this won't be marked up or sold out immediately, so I went ahead & got one. We'll see if I was right!
