Standard changes so much that there would be no way to anticipate the good cards in time to print a set like this. Also Standard is already sold in packs so it would waste a lot of money for Wizards.

Nicol Bolas is so awesome! And so is Kokusho! Bolas x Kokusho 4eva!!! <3
Read their story here!
And on the 9th day, Magic players still found something to whine about...
But seriously though... what are people going to whine about now? This kind of shoots the conspiracy "money grab" theories out the window.
At first, I saw, "Only to Alara Reborn? Seriously, you're not reprinting Tiago in anticipation of the time he'll be as overpriced as Bob?"
Then, after reading others' posts, I forgot what other heavily demanded cards they didn't reprint in this set:
The Zendikar block fetchlands.
Last time I went to my LGS, Misty Rainforest cost $50.00. Zendikar block hadn't rotated out of Standard back then, and my LGS prices higher than magiccards.info's highest price, but Modern-legal fetchlands still cost about the same as two Kitchen Finks.
It's a nice gesture, but not displaying staples all the way to M13 or Avacyn Restored really blows.
Not every card will be a 10+ dollar card in the set a lot of them will be extremely solid commons/uncommons.
I somehow forgot about this, never said all of them would be expensive card reprints (condemn is a pretty cheap card) just cards likely to reprinted to drive price down
I would not think Hierarch as it is a Judge Foil so unlikely they would reprint it in a set like this, but I am speculating Bob so who knows?
Other cards to consider:
Ranger Of Eos
Martyr Of Sands
Seething Song
Heritage Druid
Nettle Sentinel
I am probably just blanking on Commons and Uncommons most I am thinking of are from Zen-RTR

I'm all for this product, but isn't this sort of the definition of a "money grab" by WotC?
Not really, Wizards said they created the Modern format exactly so they could do reprint products like this. Ever since they created Modern people have been saying "cmon, you said you will reprint stuff, where are da goyfs?" and so finally at long last - here are the reprints we've been waiting for.
WotC has to try to balance a lot of different interests. The people who have invested a lot of money in currently high value cards are important customers - and a lot of them are the stores, who don't want to see the value of their card inventory disappear. WotC knows exactly how much they have printed of past sets so they can calculate the supply/demand cost curves a lot more accurately than we can.
I'm sure the amount of this product printed, and the pricing, are calculated to put an amount of goyf/similar cards into circulation to reduce the price somewhat, but not "crater" the price down to bulkish levels.
Certainly WotC is going to make a lot of money from this product (since after all it won't be more expensive for them to print, but they are charging more) but it is still very different from the kind of "money grab" they could do if they just wanted to reap a lot of short term revenue and didn't care about maintaining the value of people's collections.
Oh man, I've been saying Wizards should do this since Modern was created. I'm glad they had the gall to actually do this. The only thing I'm upset about is it not reaching to Zendikar. I really want more Zendikar Fetches.
How does Tarmogoyf feel mythic? Other than being expensive, it really is not that mythic feeling because there have been several other types of goyf throughout the history of Magic and no one was that impressed with them. People just think this one is mythic to justify spending way too much money on it, which allows Wizards to make an obvious cash grab such as this.
Kokusho is still a really cool modern card so I am glad she is not out of the question for a reprint. That is a card that really feels mythic!
The feeling of mythic is something that can't be quantified, so we'll have to agree to disagree here.
For me, though, being one of the most talked-about and powerful creatures ever printed is good enough for a mythic.
decent idea, but it'll drive up prices of current goyfs, then all the reprinted stuff will increase in price. see the shockland reprints. demand will increase, supply probably won't be able to meet demand, and prices will go up.

I speak in sarcasm because calling people ******* ******** is not allowed.
230 cards, that are currently Modern Legal and assumed to be "staple" and "playable" cards where the packs contain no basic land, and a guaranteed foil? These will not be 6.99 at any store that wants to make money, and I would be shocked to see a box of this cost under 175.
Imagine opening goyf then foil goyf? Reminds me of the foil Shards of Alara packs, only better. Legacy and modern cards now easier to get do to more printing? Nice.
But see, it's the good kind of money grab. We get cards on the cheaper, and are happy to throw $$ at Wizards instead of some online retailer.
Do you have any idea how...like...anything works? You're not giving your money to Wizards. Hell, as a retailer, I'm not even giving my money to Wizards (Some retailes are). Distributors give money to wizards. Retailers give money to distributors. You give money to retailers. No matter what the market value of a box is, Wizards gets the same amount of money per box. No matter what the market value of a box is, it's retailers you're giving your money to, not Wizards. As an end user, there is almost no way for you to directly give Wizards your money.

Not saying it's a bad money grab, but yes, it's certainly a no-brainer for WotC to make a ton of cash that they weren't making on the existing secondary market.

I guess so. I believe that mythic-ness should be based on flavor or uniqueness. This is too meta for me because tarmogoyf is not special or particularly awesome in the Multiverse, only in Earth's Magic community, so I do not think it is worthy of mythic status.

I'm so glad this got printed. It really will lower the barrier getting into Modern. Maybe Wizards really wants to push Modern as a format. Reprinting of shocks, now this? Possibly Modern coming as a FNM format? Then maybe larger events at SCGs?
