Any ideas what the tokens that appear for the first time might be? What token generator is used in modern that doesn't already have a token card for it?
Skeletal Vampire is one of the notorious ones. They might throw it in because of that.

I highly doubt we're going to see the tribal lands here... MM isn't a tribal set, even though they said we're going to be able to play elves and goblins, I don't think we're going to see any Black elves or goblins... and the list of playable white merfolk is definately lacking... and I don't think there are any modern playable red/white giants... The only Tribal land that could POSSIBLY show up here is Murmuring Bosk... And even then, i highly doubt it will.
I think filterlands at rare (the 5 enemy colored ones) are going to make an appearance. with CoB at uncommon.
Or what about the vivid lands at uncommon?
I have a feeling CoB will still remain rare.

The Vivid Lands aren't as strong as City of Brass, and honestly, I don't think this set is going to have that many lands. We're already looking at possibly the 5 enemy colored Filterlands, City of Brass is confirmed, I highly doubt the Vivid lands would show up here.

maybe we'll see spirit tokens for spectral procession. the people i usually play with who use token decks run it(unless it's not that competitive/ used)
i doubt we'll see the vivid lands though...
My prediction for the common mana fixers are the Ravnica signets. They're too powerful to be reprinted in a Standard-legal set (at least according to R&D last year), and there's not really enough room for them in a small set, but they all have spiffy new art to show off. Where better than here?
10 common slots in a 249 card set? ...Doubtful, Considering that we saw Golgari and Izzet Signet in Duel Decks, it's a safe bet that we'll probably see them in either another duel deck, or this year's commander product.

WotC started putting tokens in boosters in 10th edition/ Lorwyn. There are already Spirit Tokens for Spectral Procession. Plus, there've been several other 1/1 white spirit tokens produced recently. However, if Spectral Procession is reprinted, there will be a 1/1 spirit in the set.

There's more chance of them in a large set than in a small one.
If I were a betting man I'd bet against another Ravnica-themed duel deck. Remember, the autumn DD is now supposed to whet the appetite for the upcoming first set of the next block.
Putting the signets in MM satisfies the need for colour-fixing at common to support drafting, and makes use of otherwise surplus resources. It makes sense.
You do realize, that the Duel Decks don't need to be Ravnica Themed to have cards from ravnica, right? Pretty sure there were cards in IvG that weren't from Ravnica, period... Divine vs. Demonic wasn't from ravnica, yet it had Stinkweed imp... a card with a mechanic from Ravnica.
Considering we saw SOME signets in the original Commander decks, It's very logical to theorize that we'll see them again in this year's commander decks.
Plus, think of the backlash that WotC would receive for putting all 10 signets in MM over 10 other commons/uncommons that deserve to be reprinted. They're not going to do it. They're not necessary for draft-color fixing, they have CoB for that and i'd be willing to guess that the 5 enemy filterlands are going to be in this set too. You don't need 10 cards to do the job that one card could do by itself...

Looking forward to this, I just came back from a 10 year hiatus from MTG. I wanted to play Legacy, but the cost was just too high. I decided to go the Modern route and even then, some cards are just prohibitively expensive and that ain't right. Having to spend $480 on 4x Tarmogoyf, plus whatever the other 71 cards will cost, just ain't right.
Sorry have not read this whole tread, so if this is already been talked about sorry. Do does anyone know how many commons, uncommons, rares, and mythic rares there will be in the set? Or even an educated guess would suffice.
I see no reason to be excited about this. Limited print run, alternative art mythic Tarmo's are going to be twice the price of the current Goyfs. And those Goyfs will also rise in price because they are original rarities with original art and will now officially never see a similar reprint.
And yes, I would only be excited for Modern Masters if it were remotely possible to get a playset of Bobs or Goyfs. Without those, I might as well not even try to get into Modern.

Not to specifically call out you, but I've seen this argument and don't understand it. Yes, there is a very strong BGx shell that includes Goyf and Bob, but there are tons of top tier decks that don't require them. (Infect, Robots, Tron, Scapeshift, Pod, etc)
Also, if you don't want to spend a ton of money as you're getting into the format, there are quality budget decks that are good starters. (Soul Sisters, Wx Tokens, Twin, etc)

I don't care what sees print in this, but your argument is dumb. Saying there are rare filter lands doesn't help the limited argument about mana fixing. Only your unrealistic expectations of commons can match it. We know we are getting a bat token. I'll let you figure out by yourself what that means about the power level of the set.

One of the things I hate the most is wanting to play creatures that I actually like and being told "You should be running so and so".
I have an extremely budget RDW list that runs 4x Hound of Griselbrand. Who works wonders with Stonewright.
I get endless amounts of **** from people saying I should be running Hellkite or Hellrider. Which I would love to do if they were affordable cards.
So when it comes to Modern, I don't want to deal with getting into a new format where no matter what two drop I'm using, I'm gonna have people going "You should be using Goyf". So if I don't have a shot at getting Goyfs because their price is going to be $200 a piece at mythic, then I'd rather just not deal with it.

Well, like I was saying, really only a limited number of decks that prefer to run Goyf. Off the top of my head, I can think of the BGx decks, Zoo (sometimes) and RUG Delver, and Bob is played in even less top tier decks.
Now I understand that Goyf and Bob are just specific examples of a larger problem, but don't let that get to you, there is tons of room in modern to brew solid decks without going over a budget.
This is frankly just being ignorant. People dont complain that expensive things exist, they get annoyed when there are no alternatives to the expensive versions of cards.
Its a card game. People want to play the card game. They arent mad that certain pieces of cardboard are rare and collectable. They get upset when there arent alternative printings that allow them to play the game.

(Although, Sengir Nosferatu at uncommon would make Limited a BOSS!)

How many money commons (ones that are worth more than a dollar) are there 8th edition onward? I'm not sure, but it certainly doesn't number higher than 91. If you think this set will be "Open your pack, every card in it is worth a dollar or more in value" then you're going to be gravely disappointed. I, for one, would welcome the 10 signets in MM. They said I could draft storm if I wanted to. What does storm need? Fast mana/mana rocks/mana accel.
Also, if the only colorfixing in a limited environment is rare that is bound to be a terrible set for limited. I shudder to think what a limited environment would look like if there were zero colorfixers at common and uncommon. It would be terribly imbalanced and would create terrible experiences that would leave a sour taste in peoples mouths'.

Yeah, and how many OTHER cards are there in Modern that can do the same thing the 10 signets can do, but better? A TON...
Oh yeah, Desperate Ritual is likely the only ritual card we're going to see in this set, I don't think storm is going to be as playable as you want it to be... because you'd seriously need a ton, and I mean, a TON of cheap spells to cast, and the only ones I can think of that aren't banned are Slight of Hand and Serum Visions, oh yeah, Manamorphose is a thing too.
Seriously hoping for Storm to be as dominant in limited as you want it to be is a pipe dream.
There are plenty of commons/uncommons they can print to do the job of the ten signets in LESS card slots... Mana Cylix, Armillary Sphere, need I go on?

Exactly. Why does everybody assume those cards would be rare? WotC has already confirmed that some cards would shift rarities and that some of them would move down. If Sengir Nosferatu/Skeletal Vampire/City of Brass is in, that doesn't necessarily mean they'll take up a rare slot. Also, if they were rare, that would make it more likely that stuff like Thoughtseize is uncommon and thus easier to get.
