In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
I submitted two different ideas. The first was "a card that imbued all creatures with the power of death," which was expressed mechanically as "creatures that you control have deathtouch," since there has not been any card that grants universal deathtouch; all cards that grant deathtouch have thus far done so for only a single creature. The second idea was "a card that trades life for power," which was expressed mechanically as "a balanced version of Yawgmoth's Bargain: i.e., "Pay 2 life: draw a card."
Those are both fairly simple and straightforward ideas, but I believe that this game could use card such as those, so I do hope that either of them is chosen, even if that is unlikely.

2BB: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Sacrifice ~: Return target creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield."
I love reanimator shenanigans, and this card seems like a fun enabler. Ideally it would cost either 3B or 2BB, so it could function as a simple Zombify if need be.
If a creature card would be put into a graveyard from anywhere, exile it instead and put a charge counter on Maw of Madness.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player puts the top X cards of his or her library into his or her graveyard, where X is the number of charge counters on Maw of Madness.
Simple and easy to grokk, both a decent graveyard based hoser (if priced right) and casual mill card.

The idea that I actually submitted is similar to the one posted up there ^. The idea is that you are rotting yourself to rot (in other words, destroy) a creature. The idea that any player may play the ability, I believe, really delves into the thinking man's game aspect. Do you sacrifice two cards in hand to destroy that pesky creature? Do you design your deck to be all creatures that can't be targeted by the spell's ability? etc.
So, my submission ended up being:
Rot Within, Rot Without
Enchantment
Discard two cards: Destroy target non-black creature. It can't be regenerated. Any player may play this ability.
Is the ability strong? Absolutely. But, I think the card fits into the area of the game where it could be loved by multiple people. In EDH, for example, you will be able to allow others to remove those rough creatures, etc. It could fit in Standard, bringing back MBC. It also could fit into Eternal formats, if costed correctly.
---
My next submission is something more out of the box, less spike, and something that I seriously doubt will get considered. The idea is that it's an Enchantment that sometimes you want in play and sometimes you don't. It's very wordy, and entirely too complex, but here goes:
Ritual of the Void
Enchantment
During your turn, before you play a land, you may reveal ~ from your hand. If you do, sacrifice a Swamp and add to your mana pool. You cannot play a land this turn.
Whenever ~ enters the battlefield, sacrifice all Swamps you control.
Whenever a land you control is tapped for mana, it produces an extra mana.
So, what exactly does this card do? Well, it fixes mana and ramps. But, it comes at a lofty price. However, you can cast the enchantment, but even then, you have to worry about giving up all of those precious swamps you've cast before the enchantment comes down. however, in the right design, it's possible that you have no swamps on the battlefield, and you don't give up anything. It's all in how the card is played.
Whenever a player sacrifices a permanent, each other player sacrifices a permanent of the same type. If a player can not, they exile cards from the top of their library until they exile a card with the same CMC.
You may cast nonland cards exiled by ~ by paying X life, where X is the cards CMC
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, your get 1 poison counter and you get a 1/1 fly token with infect and flying.....................................and first strike, lifelink trample, haste, annihilator 3, indestructible, battlecry..i need help
???? Enchantment
Whenever you lose life, put that many blood counters on THIS.
At the beginning of your end step, look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the number of blood counters on THIS. Put one of them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. Then remove all blood counters from THIS. 1B: Each player loses 1 life.
If a player would draw a card, instead that player chooses a card from his or her graveyard and puts it into his or her hand.
If a player would search a library, he searches his graveyard instead.
Pay 1 life: Put the top three cards of your library into your graveyard.
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.
Become-A-Lich
Enchantment
Whenever you would lose life, sacrifice that many permanents instead.
2BB: Return target creature card from any graveyard to the battlefield under your control. It’s a black Zombie in addition to its other types and colors.

Well, some would say you're not, judging from past attempts by Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada.
Canadian here to politely warn you that stirring the separatist pot is inappropriate and only serves to egg people on, whether or not it's true. It's still a touchy subject, so please be nice about it.

In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.
Whenever you tap a Swamp for mana, add to your mana pool (in addition to the mana the land produces).
You may spend black mana as though it were mana of any color.
Celestial Dawn was never in the right color. Black is the color of breaking the rules and using any means necessary to get the power it craves. So, in keeping with the color's desire for omnipotence, I wanted a card that gives you lots of power (mana) and lets you use that power to do whatever your heart desires.
It's not a never-before-seen effect, but it's rare and unusual and new to this color, and is more exciting when combined with a mana ramp effect. The idea of a "five-color black" deck is interesting to me, and enabling such a thing with a simple but potent top-down design is something I'd like to do.
"Cool name goes here
As long as ~ is in play if a creature an opponent controls would be put into the graveyard from play after being dealt dmg by a creature you control, you may exile that creature instead and give one keyword from that creature to all creatures you control that share a type with the damaging creature."
The idea is that if you've got lots of zombies and they kill, say, some green wurm, then you could give all your zombies trample, etc etc the exile (green wurm) is in there because thematically the zombies are eating him and gaining his power (eat brains = grow stronger)

I was being nice. I have family in the southern states who still argue that they should secede. I'm not trying to "poke the bear," just trying to make light, satirical observation.

Seems like a fun card. I think it needs to cost at least 5 mana though. With effects like chromatic lantern maybe there is enough fixing to enable 5-color-black? Although, needing to have a 5 mana enchantment stay in play in order to play your spells is rough.

You can sort of make that style of deck already with Liliana of the Dark Realms and Shocklands. Finding the right balance of black and non-black spells for such a deck would be a challenge, as would building the proper mana base, but that's part of the fun of such things, isn't it?

Sacrifice two permanents: Return ~ from your graveyard to your hand.

I kind of doubt it'll even get a second look, since it probably feels more green than black and will likely be deemed too "complex" for a core set (and the paying life part won't help), but I think it'd be a really fun card to play with. (Necromancer powers anyone?)
I'm also not sure if the second clause might make it too powerful, but oh well.

That card is nuts.
Also, the abilities don't have synergy together. You just stapled a bunch of cards together.
