1B, Exile a card from your graveyard: Search your library for a card, reveal it, and put it into your graveyard. Then shuffle your library.
I want it to be a cool card that's not broken but strong in many formats. A good example in my mind is Birthing Pod. I think that the above effect could be very useful with the right deck, but isn't super broken everywhere. I haven't submitted yet, but this is currently my favorite idea I've had.
Excellent design. Perhaps there should be some kind of restriction on the ability if you want this card to be aggressively costed.
Excellent design. Perhaps there should be some kind of restriction on the ability if you want this card to be aggressively costed.
The templating is good, but moving Survival (a banned card) into Black and making it better seems like a really bad way to create a constructed-playable card.
So far, the three ideas that seem the most innovative and interesting are:
(1) Some kind of cast-cards / creatures from yards ability; either a universal Crucible for creatures, or maybe casting stuff out of enemy's yards;
(2) Controlling your opponent for some portion of someone's turn on a recurring basis; and
(3) Being able to cast spells that opponents discard.
These abilities feed into what Black already does very well, but seem possibly archetype-defining while potentially hate cards with other uses as well. All of these could earn my vote.
I'm going to scream if I see another custom design that's just an existing card moved into Black Enchantment. Or more creature removal for Black, because, you know, it doesn't have any already.
5 Color Cromat with tons of tutoring that doesn't reveal the card. Play a few classic playing cards, a couple Uno Draw 4s (Ancestral Recall eat your heart out), some basic Pokemon for defense, a Get Out of Jail Free card, and have assembling all five pieces of Exodia be your win condition. People will flip because EXODIA!? IMPOSSIBLE! NOBODY'S EVER BEEN ABLE TO SUMMON HIM!
Barren Season
Enchantment
If an effect would put one or more tokens onto the battlefield, it puts no tokens onto the battlefield instead. If an effect would put one or more counters onto a permanent, put no counters on that permanent instead.
----------------------------------------
Its like Doubling Season...but opposite. Cool because its an awesome hoser, but also because it can be a sick enabler if you build around it. Definitely could be playable in every format from EDH to Legacy to casual depending on how aggressively WotC would be willing to cost it. Might even be a limited and block/standard bomb if WotC would print synergies around it.
Especially fun with the Hunted cycle, the hatchling cycle, and Forbidden Orchard. Especially Spikey with Persist or Undying and against Planeswalkers, Batterskulls, Jitte, Lingering Souls, etc. Maybe I just think it would be hilarious for a 'hunted' casual deck to win a Legacy open.
I like this, but it might make Cumulative upkeep nuts.
"Troubled Past"
Enchantment B: Target opponent chooses and exiles a card from his or her graveyard.
You may play cards exiled with ~. You may spend black mana as though it were mana of any color to pay their mana costs.

Karma doesn't exist. You can't depend on it. If you count on it for justice or catharsis, you will find that you have placed your emotions on very unstable ground; and you will either repeat your disappointment in society over and over, or you will engage in a persistent delusion to protect yourself from that feeling.

This is a neat idea, but I can't see them allowing it to go to a vote at a reasonable casting cost. It combos with:
Dark Depths
Undying
Persist
Cumulative Upkeep
And it hoses soooo many cards, like, I dunno, all planeswalkers.
This ability is so potentially strong that I think it'd be costed at 6 or above, making it unplayable.
I like how half the cards in here are "pay X draw X" variations. Hooray for originality.
And half of the rest are ways to kill creatures. I know that feel bro.
I still think we have only three interesting options:
(1) Casting stuff out of the graveyard (Crucible for Creatures, Yagwill your opponent, etc);
(2) Casting cards you make the enemy discard; and
(3) Controlling your enemy's turn for some portion of each turn.
Any of these abilities could be aggressively costed without being too busted.
The templating is good, but moving Survival (a banned card) into Black and making it better seems like a really bad way to create a constructed-playable card.

It's not Survival though. It's completely different.
It's pretty darn reminiscent of Survival. And it shares one thing in common with Survival, something that is typically associated with busted-ass cards: repeatable tutoring, particularly tutoring that can activate more than once per turn.
Dont get me wrong, the card is awesome at 1B and I'd totally Johnny with it, but after Survival got banned (Entomb was only recently unleashed, remember) I can't see them allowing this to print at that cost. At a higher cost, it's just not very good.
I'm not sure if my submission will work within the rules, but whatever:
Name: Library Hoser
If a card would be put into an opponent's library from anywhere, exile it instead.
You may play cards exiled with Library Hoser.
As long as seven or more cards are in the exile zone, spells cast from exile cost {1} less to cast for each card in the exile zone.
I wanted a Black ability that would hose a traditional Green effect (recycling cards from graveyard to library - ala Gaea's Blessing, Serene Remembrance). It would prevent infinite loop combos based off recycling 1 card like Eggs decks with Conjurer's Bauble, and also have an impact against top of the library cards like Brainstorm, Vampiric Tutor and friends, possibly Cascade/Scry/Miracle.
The exile-threshold clause I wasn't sure to include but I wanted a card that took the entire exile zone into consideration without directly affecting it. Maybe open up new design space for future exile based cards. It would be funny to loop an opponent's Emrakul, the Aeons Torn with a sac-outlet.
Alrighty, check it, tell me if this is so OP it'd never happen.
Enable the Spread BBB
Creatures you control have swamp walk.
Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, you may lose 2 life. If you do, target land becomes a swamp and loses all other abilities/land types.
Idk, just seemed like a super fun idea so I went for it.
Shady Shuffle Dealings
Enchantment B
Whenever a player shuffles a library, put a shade counter on ~. BB, Remove 5 shade counters from ~ and Sacrifice it : Exile each card in your hand. Search your library for 5 cards and add them to your hand. Shuffle your library.
This was my first stab. Not sure how well it plays, seeing as how shuffling can take a while sometimes so encouraging alot of it could be 'unfun' for people. I think its cool space to work with though
The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Here's what I submitted. I went through a bunch of complicated ideas but settled on the simplest one. Opinions?
Blot Out the Sun (The sun is blacked out by a deadly fog, which causes all non-black creatures to perish. When the fog is lifted, the sudden blinding light from the sun kills the black creatures who were hiding from it.)
When Blot Out the Sun enters the battlefield, destroy all non-black creatures.
When Blot Out the Sun leaves the battlefield, destroy all black creatures.
This is actually a really cool card. Dont like that it does basically nothing when it isnt entering or leaving. Cards like that are fun if they are recurrable, and enchantments are hard to get back usually..
Still cool though
2B
Whenever a creature you control dies, you may exile two cards from your graveyard. If you do, return it to the battlefield under its owner's control.

Why can't the rest of you be more like Billy, here?
I like the design, but I think you need to broaden the base a bit so it's not just a narrow library hoser. Something like this:
"Whenever a card would be placed into a hand or library from anywhere, exile it instead."
This can see use as yard hate, not quite as good as Rest in Peace, and then splashes hate against certain combos while making bounce very powerful.
This is actually a really cool card. Dont like that it does basically nothing when it isnt entering or leaving. Cards like that are fun if they are recurrable, which enchantments are tricky to do this with..
Still cool though
If it cost 3 or less, Sun Titan could recur it, which it would then immediately kill. Ironic. We could consider renaming it to "Blot out the Sun Titan."
B, sacrifice a creature: choose 1--creatures you control gain deathtouch until end of turn; creatures you control gain first strike until end of turn; or creatures you control gain haste until end of turn.

Thanks, but the hand effect seems a bit too powerful. The Warped Devotion portion seems like a good idea, but preventing any kind of card advantage outside of draw effects...that's a dangerous ability to stick on anything.
