Fetch lands go back as far as Mirage not just Zendikar.
They aren't reprinting Mirage either. Only cards from 8th Edition through to Alara Reborn will be in this set. It's Modern Masters anyway, they aren't going to be reprinting non-Modern legal cards.
Aether Spellbomb IS constructed playable card. Its just a roleplayer for a role that is currently is unneeded.
All it takes to see play is for the following:
1. Trinket Mage to see play (Modern is the -only- format he hasn't, so this we can expect this to occur at some point as the meta changes/new cards get printed)
2. A deck to win via a creature it can't recast (namely, being cheated into play ) OR a way to recur it (Academy Ruins, etc.)
This is a set for an eternal format, so it'd be silly to consider "playability" as "list of cards in the current top 4 decks". Its cards that a Modern play should have in his/her inventory. And you should have an Aether Spellbomb in your inventory.
More importantly, does this speculate Trinket Mage as likely to be included? If so, he'd need more than just spellbombs to be draft-viable (though 5c Trinket Mage does sound like an awesome draft archetype). This single card gives us some decent knowledge about what's likely to be reprinted.
In an actual competitive game I think Aether Spellbomb requires Black Lotus (very unlikely to see a reprint in Modern legal expansion) in the format to become useful. It becomes very powerful if you can play Lotus and Auriok Salvagers in the deck though.

yes i also find that some cards are more powerful with a black lotus in the deck
This is not much information so far. One thing I'm making a mental note on, the spellbomb is at common. Tarmogoyf was announced at mythic rare, which is an upgrade from rare, but mythic didn't exist when goyf was first printed and it's still more or less a rare. I'd be pretty pleased if cards maintained their previous rarity, with the exception of some rares printed before mythic rarity upgraded to mythic.
If even this set intended to make Magic more affordable is filled with cashgrabs, (Like a mythic (Moneyseize Thoughtseize), that'd be quite a middle finger), I'm much less likely to try to get back into magic.
So, for Modern purposes . . . could someone list all the possible card types that could work for Tarmogoyf and list his largest possible size w/ out any additional cards or counters or the like???

The "normal" card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, instant, land, planeswalker, sorcery and tribal. All of these already exist in modern, so he can be an 8/9. There's also phenomenon, plane, scheme, and vanguard but these can't be played in real formats. Btw, you know that Tarmogoyf is already legal in modern, right?
MM is going to be designed as a competitive limited set. It should be obvious to anyone that not every single card can be a Tarmogoyf or Dark Confidant. You have to have certain role-players for limited or else the format just becomes one giant cluster****.
Not every card in the set is going to be a "well, this was obviously printed because deck x is very strong."

I do know that . . . but as a new player who has mostly only played Standard, I thought I would ask.

way out of scope for the thread, though. Back on target, people!

Here are the little self-imposed guidelines I'm working with for the multiplayer decks I've been building:
• Must be cheap. Total price tag < $100, preferably < $50. Ideally ~$30. No one card greater than about ~$6
• Format: Modern (makes getting the cards somewhat easier for the play group, and almost all my cards are Modern-legal)
• Must be relatively interesting in 1:1 games. I don't need to win against Splinter Twin, but I should be able to play duels now and then
• Avoid instant-win combos; they only serve to make me target #1, and then the deck is worse than useless because I get killed first, every time
• Must have a funny name!
Nice way of letting us know when the Artifacts begin for the number crunch. Thanks, Wizards!
Still could be an Adaptive Automaton or Adventuring Gear (or Accorder's Shield but I REALLY hope that's not in this set), but those are the only modern-legal colorless artifact cards that are ahead of it alphabetically

Aether Spellbomb is part of the combo with Black Lotus is my point. afaik that's the only place the spellbomb sees competitive play.

They also never go to the graveyard, so they don't affect Tarmogoyf even in casual variants.
