It leads to a pain epidemic of horrible proportions, due to all the intense back strain caused by the massive spike in the average post-manabase-purchase wallet weight
Yeah, lets all pretend that comes into play tapped isn't a deal breaker for almost anything competitive.
That's my point exactly. Let's have the most COMPETITIVE mana bases be essentially gimmes. Plenty of room for expensive cards in the mythic rarity. I get why they have to be produced in limited numbers for Limited, but that doesn't mean they should stay hard to come by in constructed.
Summoning Bahamut should be expensive; drinking an Ether potion, less so.
let's pretend that only nonlands can have value. let's pretend the fact you can't afford shocklands is the root cause that you can't win competitively. let's pretend this is anything new and that they will suddenly stop producing rare lands since 20 years ago.

I'm saying it would be a net gain for the playing community (maybe not for collectors) if competitive manabases were not expensive.
When you arrive at a Dragon's Maze prerelease, you select one of the 10 guilds.
Your guild box will have:
4 Dragon's Maze Booster Packs
1 Guild Booster pack belonging to the guild you selected
1 unknown guild booster pack belonging to another guild (secret alliance guild) that shares one of the colors of your selected guild, as long as it's not in the same set. (A guild box cannot have two RTR guilds inside or two GTC guilds inside, must be one of each)
Noone knows which secret allied guild will be included in their guild box, and it's probably better that way so that people who figure out the system won't be cherry picking certain guilds based on how well two certain guilds happen to play together just to increase their chances of winning. The random 25/25/25/25 chance you have of having a certain guild forces everyone to adapt to their sealed pool, as if the randomness inside the guild boosters and the 4 DGM packs themselves weren't enough.
In the Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash prereleases, your guild booster (the one with the clear, transparent packaging) had 16 cards in it. It included 10 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare or the guild leader, and your guild-specific foil prerelease card that you were allowed to put in your deck for the tournament. For Dragon's Maze, those exact guild boosters are returning, except they will only have 15 cards, with the guild-specific foil prerelease card being the missing card inside.
As far as the Dragon's Maze prerelease card is concerned, instead of having 5 different ones available for Return to Ravnica and 5 different ones available for Gatecrash, with each foil prerelease card allowed to be used inside one's deck, only one Dragon's Maze prerelease card will be available, and it will be handed out to everyone instead of being included inside the guild box. And it CANNOT be used inside one's deck.
Now, concerning the nonbasic land slot inside Dragon's Maze boosters (that's replacing the traditional basic land slot in boosters for this set): it has been confirmed that shocklands that appeared in Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash will appear at roughly half the rate they appeared in Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash, making them, for all intents and purposes, harder to pull than any Dragon's Maze mythic rare. However, I'm inclined to believe that although this nonbasic land slot will almost always have one of the ten guildgates in any given pack, they have also raised the possibility that the eleventh mythic in Dragon's Maze (supposedly a Legendary Land that allows you to win the game if you control ten gates) can also appear in this nonbasic land slot.
It has also been confirmed that even though up to 21 different cards can appear in this nonbasic land slot (10 guildgates, 10 shocklands, 1 DGM mythic land), the guildgates and the mythic land will have the DGM expansion symbol and the shocklands will retain their RTR or GTC expansion symbols. This difference in choice of expansion symbols of cards that appear in DGM packs raises several intriguing questions, but also produces some rather common sense answers as well, at least to me anyway. As most of us know thanks to the flavor text clues located on the guildgates in Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash, we are not expecting events on Ravnica to have a pretty ending, and many landmarks and structures will probably end up in ruins as a result. With WOTC's decision to have all 10 guildgates appear in Dragon's Maze with the DGM expansion symbol instead of the RTR or GTC they have already been previously printed with, it is almost expected that the 10 guildgates reappearing will show up in DGM packs with new art, more than likely shown in a damaged or destroyed state. If they had the same art, just imagine what a nightmare it would be for collectors trying to sort through cards and coming across two gate cards that look essentially identical with the exception of the expansion symbol and the collector number at the bottom. There wouldn't be enough distinction between the two. Having 10 different pieces of art for the guildgates that appear in DGM would help with that problem and possibly help sell the impending storyline.
On the subject of having shocklands with RTR or GTC expansion symbols appear in DGM packs, WOTC would almost undoubtedly have to ratify their policy of only being allowed to use cards with the expansion symbol belonging to only the single set in question in limited tournaments. However, since DGM is a small set and is not designed to be drafted DGM-DGM-DGM, this may not be as much of an issue. But in the future, if WOTC does decide to add cards from earlier sets within the same block inside of booster packs, it bumps up the possibility of people trying to sneak in outside cards into their sealed pool, but I suppose that's been an age old problem and nothing new.
To clear up any confusion regarding foils, the only way you can get a foil version of a shockland is by opening it up in a Return to Ravnica or Gatecrash booster, as it has been confirmed that no foil shockland can be opened up in Dragon's Maze boosters. You are almost guaranteed exactly one guildgate in every Dragon's Maze booster, with the off chance that the guildgate inside is replaced with a shockland or DGM's mythic land. However, you can get two guildgates in one booster, since a foil version of any DGM card will always replace a common card in the booster. As people have already speculated and figured out, you can have the "god" pack and get three rares in one booster (#1 - rare/mythic in the traditional rare/mythic slot, #2 - DGM mythic land or shockland in the nonbasic land slot, #3 - foil rare or mythic replacing a common slot). Is it possible to get the DGM mythic land in all three slots? I believe it will be possible. Would hate opening that in draft though.:o
"vedalkensamurai asked: Does the mythic land in Dragon's Maze show up in the rare slot or only in the land slot?
Only the land slot." - Maro's tumblr. No triple DGM mythic land pack.
I kind of doubt that the guild "secret allies" will be random. seems unwieldy for the supply chain and running the prerelease. I think it would be 5 packs with fixed allies or less likely 10 packs with fixed allies.
Figure out what the dgm set symbol is and you'll know lol.

It's 4 packs with fixed allies- the ally can be any guild from the other set that shares one color with the chosen guild.
For example- Simic can only be paired with Azorius, Izzet, Golgari, or Selesnya.
That "no chance of mythic land in the rare slot" business just makes it even harder for me to see how it's possible to get the Mythic Land in Foil,
yet not the Shocklands-
what, are they throwing away the shocklands from the foil land sheet or something?
I still don't get how they can have foil guildgates but not shocks,
given they're on the same print sheet.

As to the Gates and Shocks, the signs indicate that the Gates will be on the normal common sheet or whatever in addition to the land sheet, which would be what allows them to be obtained in foil. The Shocks will certainly be exclusively on the land sheet. Dunno about the Mythic, though, since I think I remember Maro saying on his tumblr that the Mythic land would only show up in the land slot, not the Mythic/Rare slot, which would seem to indicate that it, too, will be unavailable in foil.

Someday, I will own all of the dragons. All of them. 43/111, approximately 39% complete. Over a third done.
(calling it now; there will be a cycle of Legendary dual lands with Basic Land types in Theros block)
... AAAAAAAAND I was wrong
It is possible to receive a foil guildgate (which would replace a common) in addition to a regular guildgate in a booster, but the shocklands will not appear as foil cards in Dragon's Maze. Your players will also find them in Dragon's Maze boosters about half as often as they did in Return to Ravnica and Gatecrash.
This is pretty interesting to read... Skimming the RTR box map thread, it seems an average box would contain about 3 shocks. So we're likely to see a "Maze shockland" once or twice average in a box of Dragon's Maze. Certainly worth noting!
This announcement upset me greatly. I wanted to play Rakdos again, but now I know that they are putting another guild pack from a foriegn guild in my Rakdos box, which really bothers me. What if they put a Dimir pack in? First of all, my sealed pool will be innundated with blue, which sucks because I hate blue. Secondly, why the heck would Rakdos be teaming up with Dimir? My beloved guild kills things and explodes stuff because it's fun. Dimir plots and plans to get power. Completely incompatible! (Please note that similar problems arise with any other guild getting mixed with Rakdos. This is just my example for now.) Now I will basically be using a sealed pool with just five packs, which is less than six and therefore less fun. I kinda want to cry just at the thought.
I hope someday they do another tournament where I can play pure, beautiful Rakdos sealed again. The RTR one was so fun...

That being said, awesome mana bases have been expensive/harder to get since the first set in the game's history.
But I will agree that any card that goes in more than 2 or 3 types of decks in any given format should be common/uncommon. Rares should be things like big bombs for specific themes. But that layout won't sell boxes as well. And selling boxes means more incentive to keep printing the game. So I can't complain.

I'm not sure if this has been spoken about yet but what about Thespian's Stage?? It is a non-basic land and from what I read it just says you can bust out any non-basic lands. So I think you will get trolled a bit with your non-basic land being a Thespian's Stage.

Are we allowed to speculate on which "secret ally guild" each guild will have. I personally think random will be rediculous. If each guild has only 1 ally, then there are really only 5 different packs that need to be produced. It makes more sense. With that said, here are the pairs I anticipate.
Rakdos/Gruul: I think they may have some good things in common and may even get along.
Golgari/Dimir:both work underground and could be working on something together.
Selesnaya/Simic: different philosophies but the symbols are both trees.
Azorius/Orzhov:Seems like a pretty scary mix to me.
Izzet/Boros:Already hinted at as collaborated in Shock trooper
I haven't found any in card reasons for these decisions. Except for the boros/izzet. It's probably just speculation but it's what I'm betting on.

Ridiculous is with an I, not an E.
Also, you can hope you can get those combinations, but known information states that they are random, which makes much more sense.
If they were locked, people would get upset with the secondary guild they know they'll be paired with. Randomizing it at least allows you the chance to get a secondary guild you like paired with your primary guild all the while allowing someone else to be paired with a different secondary guild they like.
Besides which, variance leads to more interesting game play. Randomizing the secondary guilds will be much more awesome than locking them in.
Not to mention that if you don't get the secondary guild that you wanted... it only affects about half of one of the 6 packs total you'll get. Over all, the cards you get in the 4 DGM packs will have just as much, if not more, impact on what deck you end up building anyway (I've heard and seen lots of stories from the RTR and GTC pre-releases where people played different guilds than what they chose for the pack, just because the other 5 packs had better cards for something else than their 1 guild pack).
Summary: if you're hellbent on playing a specific colour/Guild combination before you've even opened your packs, you've got a high chance of being disappointed anyway.
I'm not sure if this has been spoken about yet but what about Thespian's Stage?? It is a non-basic land and from what I read it just says you can bust out any non-basic lands. So I think you will get trolled a bit with your non-basic land being a Thespian's Stage.
The shocks, gates, and mythic land were named exclusively for DGM booster packs, so no Thespian's Stage.
Its actually called Spark Trooper, don't use card tags unless you actually know the card in which you are talking about.
Wait a minute. Someone misspelled a card name? On these boards!? Let's all point and laugh at this subnormal mongrel with a very poor grasp on card names!
Get over yourself. People misspell cards every day. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Augur of Bolas spelled out as "Auger of Bolas". Or Odric, Master Tactician spelled "Ordric". If someone misspells something, correct them at your leisure, but there really is no need to be rude or aggressive about it.

Thanks to Hero's of the Planes Studios for the Awesome Sig!!!
Its actually called Spark Trooper, don't use card tags unless you actually know the card in which you are talking about.
Sure?
But we already know the answer- it's even mentioned in the OP.
(one of the four guilds that shares a color but not a set with the main one, chosen at random. all four are possibilities.)

Summary: if you're hellbent on playing a specific colour/Guild combination before you've even opened your packs, you've got a high chance of being disappointed anyway.
