turn one/two legion loyalist, turn 3 hellraiser goblin, turn 4 tajic and attack. making all you guys first strike, trample, pro to token blocks, not to mention you have a 7/7 attacking. that all... really really scairy
Indestructible, to me, says that he can not be bested in combat. He's only one man, so he can not take down Borborygmus by himself, but he will make a tactical retreat over being killed.
Gah. Why is this not a RW costing creature? Boros already got screwed as the fastest guild by not getting a hybrid one drop when Azorious got one and Izzet got two; I was hoping their champion would be cheap. The card itself looks OK, probably not great in Constructed right now but it has potential. I'm just annoyed they didn't make something cheaper for us Boros fans.
... what?
Boros has 2 great 1 drop creatures and 2 great 2 drop creatures that sport awesome Battalion abilities, and Ash Zealot, and Boros Reckoner, and so on and so fourth.
Indestructible, to me, says that he can not be bested in combat. He's only one man, so he can not take down Borborygmus by himself, but he will make a tactical retreat over being killed.
Which is why it would have made sense for him to be Indestructible in combat, but I don't see him dodging an Earthquake.
I gotta say, Boros has a wealth of really solid creatures. You could make a really nice deck for block constructed of nothing but creatures and 4 Boros Charms for spells.
Which I think I might prepare right now and just leave a few slots open for Tajic...
Which is why it would have made sense for him to be Indestructible in combat, but I don't see him dodging an Earthquake.
Mmm. I might be wrong, but as far as I know indestructible creatures can't be killed with damage spells, only -x/-x spells like Mutilate for example, sacrifice creature effects like Diabolic Edict, and exiling effects like Swords to Plowshares...
Mmm. I might be wrong, but as far as I know indestructible creatures can't be killed with damage spells...
Exactly my point. If the flavour is just "he's a really skilled fighter" then give him protection from creatures, or indestructible during combat or Deftblade Elite ability.
All this may be moot as he may have a legit reason for being indestructible like Konda, but there's already a precedent for the champions to have sloppy flavour (*cough 4/4 vigilance cripple lawyer*).
Hold on to your scrolls... they actually made a Chuck Norris card?
Joking aside, I like the flavor of Tajic overall. He's the Blade of the Legion, a stand alone fighter, holding the line. Then his backup arrives, and they kick some butt.
As for general material, he's RW. If you haven't gotten something down to play him up in those colors, simply don't use him yet (or at all). He also swings for the mighty 7 (though, he needs friends). I'd give him a fair shot at leading a 100 card deck.

This is a card that really feels like it needs another keyword or to cost one less. This would be great at 1RW or if it had haste or vigilance. But as it stands, he's R/W, slow and still not a card that could be in a control deck.
How spoiled have we become that a 4-mana indestructible guy with an extra ability needs to cost 3 mana to be considered 'great'?
Dude reminds me of Konda, Lord of Eiganjo. I was hoping for a decent casting cost. Four shall do just fine for an indo Battalion general who can become a 7/7. He will help lead my human army in my Naya tribal EDH deck.
You forgot Konda stole that Kami-thing that granted divinity counters? he should have eaten a few of those counters before facing the kamis in card form.
The issue is flavor. Konda was indestructible due to stealing That Which Was Taken from the spirit world. What makes some random soldier indestructible?
Well apparently he just carries around a bag full of Boros Charms.
Fridge Logic: Boros Charms are cast using his beard hair as a reagent.
in serious news: woah this card is pretty awesome. 4 mana is the ideal top of the curve for fast creature decks, so he curves pretty nicely for them. also, didn't a few people predict this would be a 2/2? kudos to them.
It's always funny when people have a hard time with flavor like this guy being indestructible.
We play a game where we pose as inter-dimensional wizards, pulling energy out of different kinds of terrain that either brings things into existence and/or augments reality in some phenomenally powerful way, and each of us can take copious amounts of beyond-epic damage before we die.
Its called magic for a reason.
When you've already taken such a huge leap in the first place, is it really any stretch at all to imagine that this "white" energy can provide indestructibility?
I'm not saying anything goes, but at least plains provide indestructibility anyway, not to mention (as others have said) all the other magic cards in this very block that are white and provide indestructibility.
You might be missing the point of flavor at all if you think this doesn't fit the Boros and/or white flavor.

This guy is good. Is he Hellrider? No. But he does basically say that Batallion=You Win, and he is very difficult to remove. Sometimes good design is expressed in simple badassedry. He is designed far better than several other champions, at least, and anyone who thinks this is not Standard playable is kidding himself.
He's indestructible because he makes sure to eat his Frosted Lucky Boros Charms every single morning :p. He's a 2/2 that gets +5/+5 with Battalion because if you thought the Elites were good, Tajic will knock your socks off as the freaking BLADE OF THE LEGION. It doesn't feel like a "flavor fail" to me at all :p.
I'm not a huge fan of him though. I don't get all the love...we've never had an indestructible creature costed this efficiently, but I'm not feeling him as a commander or as a standard staple, not with four cmc red so crowded nowadays. For 4 mana, I'd honestly rather cast Boros Reckoner and hedge my bets on needing the last mana for First Strike.

If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

basically it's another desecration demon except you get to choose what creatures to block if you want and it can't get chumped by tapped creatrures but require's other cards to be good. there is currently no reason to play him over geist or hellrider in any deck ever. Maybe after rotation he will be reasonable. The good news is it works well with valcanic strength in the mirror match as you won't get blown out.
