WOW! Just wow. I had putten this horrible book so far out of my mind. Now I am having flash backs to bad reading. Yeah, this book was 100% filler. The only thing I really remember was Yawgmoth's face in the clouds and people disapearing....then lots of Latulla..being boring and lame.
So when are we likely to get the decklists for these things?
The decklists for Izzet vs. Golgari were revealed 2 Mondays before its release (August 27th for release on September 7th). If this folds out the same way, March 4th is when we find out.

let's all hope the decks are a bit like rakdos vs orzhov(tibalt as rakdos and sorin as orzhov)
agree with the prophecy storyline, it was meh.
maybe it going to be a new tibalt(tibalt the redeemed)

I don't know if they'll do a new walker just for a Duel Deck, though I do hope so. Would be kinda lopsided if the two walkers were to fight each other.

unless tibalt is going to appear in october set this is highly unlikely. But WB vs BR does seem the most apporiate since tibalts story does seem to lead very much into black. Demons devils and using torture to achive power.
Duel decks are typically one attack one and one defense one. Garruk attack//lillana defense, Ajani attack//Bolas defense, Venser Defense// Koth Attack. Rakdos Unleash mechanic seems very suitable for a tibalt aggro deck. In the same manner ozhov extort mechanic seems suitable for the more defensive Sorin.

I too am hoping for a BR Tibalt deck. There have already been four mono-red duel decks (Chandra, Goblins, Dragons and Koth). That's enough for now I think.

The new Tibalt probably has to be redeemed for being so bad and unplayable previously haha
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Who else has their fingers crossed that Blind Obedience might make an appearance in the Sorin deck? Or, would that just be broken in a Duel Deck?
I wouldn't say broken, but not a "casual friendly" card, which these decks are really aimed at. I'd say best case we'll see Vindicate... likely case we'll see Angel of Despair or something less interesting.
Yes, Izzet vs Golgari had some playable cards in it, I'm never going to say anything different;
but when you compare the total value of all 1$ or more valuable cards, then Elspvs.Tezz compared to Izzvs.Golg is still today about 2:1.
Izzet vs. Golgari is totally worth its price, but not more than that, whereas Elspeth itself is and always was worth the price of the Duel Deck itself, including Tezz, SotP, Mishra's Factory and so on...
That's what I meant with my statement and that's why my heart still jumps up and down out of joy when talking about this specific DD.
And look at what that did to the speculator market.
These are meant to be decks for casual players, and they put too much value in, causing people who are only in it to strip the decks or turn around and sell the cards to buy up all the product.
Because the speculators were so intent on getting their hands on it, it caused LGS's to jack the price up because they knew people would still buy it.
Decks like Tezzeret vs Elspeth encourage bad business practices.

Again I love how the term "casual" gets throw up as a metaphor for crappy cards in a deck. Its kinda annoying im sure even the casual player wants a lightning bolt rather than a shock in a product they get

yet, i've never had any trouble whatsoever getting Duel Decks at msrp. in fact, i frequently still see them wasting away on shelves at nearby big box stores, as well as gaming stores. granted, the planeswalker-focused decks typically move faster than the faction decks. but it's never been an issue for me to get my hands on (in-print or recently out-of-print) DDs at msrp. idk, maybe i live in a more inherently honest region (or, more likely, it might have something to do with the fact that there is at least 6 places i can think of, probably closer to 10, to get this type of product in my city of approx 111,000 people).

i know, right? casual players like to play with good/expensive cards, too. we're just less likely to be in a position to get ahold of them (fnm drafts, pack cracking, buying booster boxes, buying playsets of standard staples in order to stay competitive and keep up with the format[s], trading with large groups or regular players, etc) as more competitive players are. so putting value in "casual" products is always welcome, imo.

I know of at least 2 store owners that buy out the big box stores on certain products like Commander and Duel Decks.
They create a monopoly and the people who want to strip the decks enable them because they're willing to buy the products at a jacked up price.

In fairness to that, most of the duel decks haven't carried the same value that the chase decks have had, so of course they're going to languish on the shelves. For the record too, I thought Izzet v Golgari had the best balance between good cards and value so far. Nothing that will make people go out and snatch up as much as they can, but powerful enough cards for what you get.

The flip side to that, of course, is that the competitive players will be more willing to go and drop a lot of cash to get the product too.

yeah, but that's just the nature of the game. there's really no good way around it. cramming products full of bad cards with the intention of keeping the sharks away doesn't really help anyone. probably the most simple solution is: print more product. if Deck X has valuable and/or fun cards sought after by casual and competitive players alike, they're going to sell. i hear large corporations like money. if WotC's goal is sincerely to get a certain product into the hands of casual players, the more realistic approach to make sure that can happen is simply to make more of the product available instead of watering it down with sub-par cards.
i know this is a bad example due to the nature/intent of the product, but think of how much more money they could've made off of Commander's Arsenal if they wouldn't have done the "very limited print run" thing. i know i probably would've dropped $75 on it if i could have (but not $200), even despite all the extraneous bs they loaded it up with.

idk, just my 2 stoned cents.
Eh, one of the things that keeps happening is that people keep putting words into my mouth. I'm not saying that they should put crappy cards in these decks. I mean... just look at the travesty that was Venser v Koth and how horribly that sold to everyone.
I'm just saying that the absurd money cards shouldn't be put in. Like I mentioned, Izzet v Golgari did a fantastic job of finding a balance between good products and not loading them down with chase cards.

yeah, sorry. didn't mean to make it sound like that's what you were saying, rather that seems to be the only solution they can come up with.
i don't see an increase in the availability of chase cards to be a bad thing. including "valuable" cards in precons and whatnot makes them less "chase" (if only marginally), and sells more product.
but yeah, i agree that if the choice has to be between a balanced deck with several decent cards vs. a deck with one or two big money cards, i would typically rather go for the former (barring something like Elspeth in EvT, where i had zero Elspeths and really wanted a couple for various edh decks).
Alot of the stores around me still have 2-4 copies of Izzet vs golgari a few venser vs koth and some even still have ajani vs bolas. Getting a duel deck at mrsp isn't hard. Look I can understand why FTV will be raised in price but the duel decks are I belive very successful products and wizards is printing them in force(unlike the days the limited print runs of elves vs goblins or jace vs chandra) so raising the price is just the LGS shooting himself in the foot.

off topic i know but what is a latulla?
A female Keldon Warlord, famous for doing some stuff I forced out of memory and can no longer tell you.
Latulla, Keldon Overseer. Also what Krimson Viper said.
Reckless Waif; It's the red Delver of Secrets.

I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.
"I trust myself to do my duty, even unto death. It's what comes after that I'm afraid of."
"Just fight without fear. Your soul is protected by the hand of Avacyn and will never submit to evil."
The new Tibalt probably has to be redeemed for being so bad and unplayable previously haha
Also, I doubt we'll see a new Tibalt. Very Unlikely.

I am sure there are examples that prove that wrong, but as a general rule of thumb, it is good.
