I never said that. As I said, planeswalkers also get new cards because they're featuring in the block's story. Jace gets used in the story a lot, (and he's one of the Lorwyn five; WotC is trying to push them as the face of MtG) so he gets a lot of cards. Tibalt hasn't featured in the story at all; he was basically just an experiment to see if a two mana planeswalker could be done. It's possible that someone in creative will find a brilliant use for Tibalt in-story, and that he'll get an awesome new card, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you.
Maybe. But you know what everyone (who works on MtG) at WotC really wants to do? Get people excited about buying boosters in the hope of pulling cool cards. Tibalt failed to do that before, so why risk the possibility of him doing that again?
You have to keep in mind the fact that it's WotC's job to be in tune with what their players like and what their players dislike. The block we're in the middle of is a testament to that fact. Note how there's never been a "Return to Ulgrotha" block, despite the fact that the ending to Homelands was a cliffhanger, and an obvious sequel hook.
Izzet vs Golgari is hurt that you forgot about it so soon.
1) Divine vs Demonic was the Angels/Demons duel deck. You named the same duel deck twice.
2) Have you actually played the Divine vs Demonic duel decks? They're terrible.
The artwork was great though! (sorry, loved the DvD artwork).
But back on topic. I have to agree with what was stated so many times before. It will be the two innistrad versions of these planeswalkers. I hope for a tibalt v2 in the future, he seems like he could be cool, but this current one is really weak (though I am dying to find a way to break him).
Now, if talking about duel decks...Garfield vs Finkel. That was a fun one.

I have not read the book for Homelands, so I cannot comment on the fact that it ended with a cliffhanger, but I shall say that I greatly dislike it when a story ends without a proper resolution, as has happened with Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles, The Finder, (a spin-off of Bones), and the new Thundercats series, which has not been canceled, but is currently on "indefinite hiatus;" how can writers do that? If their story is at risk of being canceled by their sponsor, they should be certain that they leave no loose ends to torment the audience. For example, Avatar: the Legend of Korra, the sequel to Avatar: the Last Airbender, has had only one season, but has a second season in development. However, there was no guarantee that the series would last beyond one season, so the story writers ensured that the ending of the first season could also have ended the entire story if they needed to. The Teen Titans and Justice League television series also used this tactic, with each season finale capable of being the entire series' finale if the series was not renewed.
I know that that is not strictly related to Magic: the Gathering or Tibalt, but I believe that giving a name and identity to a character and then never developing that character is a terrible injustice, indeed.

The legend of Korra was meant to be a miniseries spin off. After the series was finished being animated and written, but still on air, Nick told the creators to make two more seasons. It was only supposed to air for one season.
As for other works ending on cliff hangers, it bugs me too, but mostly it is the writers being hopeful for an extension of the series. They assume. My stance is, unless you are written into multiple seasons (like the Last Airbender was) you wrap up every instance with a solid ending, yet leave more room for exploration. Worse comes to worse, Retcon like Scars of Mirrodin did.
And Teen Titans didn't on it's last season. It ended on the cliff hanger were Terra returned and they needed her help, yet she was refusing for an unknown reason. The series never got the part 2 of that episode leaving a cliff hanger.

Having at least done a few games with each duel deck that I have purchased (Jace versus Chandra, Garruk versus Liliana, Tezzeret versus Elspeth, Divine versus Demonic, Izzet versus Golgari, Koth versus Venser) I'd say that DvD is the most unbalanced of the bunch. It's almost impossible for Demons to win in the face of the faster, Akroma-wielding Divine deck. Games are more exciting at least than Koth versus Venser, but are still ultimately unfun and boring after the novelty wears off.
That being said, the product itself was good. The alt art on Akroma and Lord of the Pit looks great, the new card face Demonic Tutor was much appreciated, and I like the update to Faith's Fetters.

Goblins vs Elves was really really fun when I played that. Even though I thought Elves had far better cards.
Of all of the dual decks I think I enjoyed playing Phyrexians vs Coalition the best. Felt most like limited matches in Saga to Invasion era. Also felt like it was one of the only products to successfully "tell a story" through gameplay.
I also liked Liliana vs Garruk because I feel like those two colors lend well to duel deck format.
Nicol Bolas vs Ajani was fun because it had all the kird ape guys. (Kird Ape is my favorite Magic card.)

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."
They should have done Garruk v. Liliana Round 2! Garruk Relentless v. Liliana of the Veil. Makes a ton of sense in story, good cards to reprint, makes Wizards lots of money, everyone's happy all around.
I agree Phyrexia vs Coalition was my fave duel deck ever played, even though it didnt have amazing money cards... and to be honest, phyrexia side curved out way better.

Lol, but on the other hand, when it isn't the end and they do a possible series finale for a season finale it can be bad too (see the end of the guild's newest season. So amazing, but got everyone afraid that it was the end..perfect way to end it too. Day did this because she was running out of funds at the time and didn't know if there would be another season).
But I digress. i am actually looking forward too this, regardless of how bad of a card Tibalt is, he is actually kind of a cool character that I would love to see more of, even if it is in a janky dual deck that I am going to buy just to get him with alt art even though I could probably buy it at a tenth of the cost, then I probably will use him just out of novelty if I ever create a red deck that I want to keep together *breathes*
All in all, maybe they will find some way to make an amazing deck with him...maybe.

I agree wholeheartedly, but WotC has dropped characters before. I've already mentioned how the Homelands characters never got any resolution, but, just off the top of my head, there was also Alexi and Mageta, who were introduced in Prophecy, and promptly disappeared afterwards. They had even set up Alexi to be Barrin's apprentice, but come Invasion block, she was nowhere to be seen. Heck, even Jolrael vanished after her return in Prophecy*. Except for her reprint in Time Spiral, but that was non-canon, so it hardly counts.
I'm sure if we got Barinellos in here, he could list off even more abandoned characters.
*I guess Prophecy is just where characters go to die.
How were they terrible, in your mind? Angels and demons are my two favorite creatures in this game, so I did not at all find the decks to be terrible, but I would be interested to hear your opinion on that subject.
Oh, I wanted Divine vs Demonic to be good, believe you me. I like angels and demons too, which is why I'm so critical of the Divine vs Demonic duel decks. I don't, for example, care about knights or dragons, so I don't care about the fact that the Knights vs Dragons duel decks were supposedly pretty bad and poorly balanced.
-The Divine deck has almost no removal, so, most of the time, the only answer it has to the Demonic deck dropping a bomb is to drop its own bomb, and hope that it doesn't eat a Dark Banishing. (The Demonic deck, honestly, is also lighter on removal than I'd like it to be.)
-The Divine deck is fairly good at stalling, and the Demonic deck is bad at quick kills, so the life/mana/whatever payments that many of the Demonic deck's cards have can actually cripple you pretty easily.
-Including Akroma was a terrible choice. The Demonic deck has precisely five answers to Akroma, if you include Demonic Tutor's ability to fetch an answer, and all but one of those answers are sacrifice effects, so most of the time, they won't even work. The Demonic deck can't race her, either; her protection means that she is a guaranteed six damage per turn, and her vigilance means that she can, at the same time, stop (and likely kill) whatever you're trying to race her with. My friends and I played dozens of games with these duel decks, and the Demonic deck never survived Akroma hitting the field.
-I don't know how WotC failed to notice the fact that Lord of the Pit started sucking over a decade ago, nor why they thought it was cool enough to be the foil mythic of the Demonic deck. The only reason that it works (and I use that word only in the loosest sense) in the Demonic deck is because the Divine deck has so little removal, so you rarely have to worry about Lord of the Pit or your sacrifice fodder killed.
-Breeding Pit is useless except to provide sacrifice fodder, but there are only five cards in the Demonic deck that need sacrifice fodder (and two of them are one-time effects), so good luck drawing both Breeding Pit and a card that needs sac fodder in the same game. The thrull tokens have zero power, so they're no good on offense, and they don't have flying, so they can't block any of the Divine deck's creatures that you actually want to be chump blocking. I guess they included it to make the Lord of the Pit better, but playing bad cards in order to make other bad cards suck slightly less is bad deckbuilding philosophy.
-Speaking of bad cards, both decks are chock full of them, like Icatian Priest, Healing Salve, Serra's Boon, Dusk Imp, Souldrinker, Unholy Strength, and two of the luckycharms, just to name a few. So when you inevitably take the decks apart, most of their contents will just end up going in your "crap commons and uncommons" box. If it weren't for the foil Akroma and the alt-art Demonic Tutor, it wouldn't be worth the MSRP. So if you don't want to actually play the duel decks, and are just interested in the individual cards, you're typically better off just buying or trading for the cards you want. (Which is what I did.)
-All in all, the decks are just poorly balanced, and shoddily built. Games are decided less by who outplays who, and more by who gets the better draws.
That being said, the product itself was good. The alt art on Akroma and Lord of the Pit looks great, the new card face Demonic Tutor was much appreciated, and I like the update to Faith's Fetters.
Meh, I really don't like Akroma's DvD art. (The flavor text is also a major step down.) Her face seems off, her hair is so bad that I can't even come up with a simile to properly describe it, and her legs are posed unnaturally. The way she has her hand on her chest makes me think she in the middle of saying "Oh I do declare! I believe I've come down with a sudden case of the vapors!" in an over-the-top southern accent. There's too much empty space in the lower right quarter of the art, and everything but Akroma's (awful-looking) hair is white or off-white, so all the details seem blurred together.
I'll admit, the original art wasn't perfect; Akroma's right wing seems significantly smaller than her right, her loincloth (or whatever that is) is the same color as her hair, which puts way too much focus on her ass, and her sword doesn't look as nice as it does in her DvD art. But I still think that the original art is the better of the two.
The DvD art for Faith's Fetters was a lateral move IMO, and I'd never play with Lord of the Pit, so its nice art seems like a waste to me. I do really like the DvD art to Demonic Tutor, however.

Who disturbs my slumber!? (it's nice to be appreciated)
No, kidding, kidding. Of course, the amusing thing is you've chosen a terrible choice to discuss. Homelands is mostly considered to be a huge flop in terms of mechanics and as a set, an amusing thing since it was actually the very first top down set magic designed with its own story in mind as opposed to a borrowed one. (The Dark and Fallen Empires had no real story in mind past what they could flavor the cards with.)
That being said, what makes this a bit of a terrible choice is that Wizards actually HAS been doing some follow up on what became of Ulgrotha. While it hasn't been a dedicated set, there's been enough featured in various products that we CAN piece together aspects of what has happened. They are, slowly, expanding on how that story ended.
But yes, I could rattle off a huge list of characters whose resolution were ultimately abandoned, either by the needs of the story or the cancellation of the products akin to the Planeswalker's War of Corondor.
In fairness to all this besides.... Prophecy was just awful and deserved to be dropped into the Aperture Science Story Incineration Port.
i liked some prophecy cards >:/ the avatars are fun. the legends are fun(mind grind on a stick, bounce stuff for x, wrath, burn), the discard a card cycle, celestial convergent, excavation, rhythic cycle was fun.
but i do hope they make a new tibalt in dragon's maze so that we don't have people complain about how random discarding sucks...
i hope the new tibalt is Rakdos!!!!!!! or that there is a new tibalt in dragon's maze!!!!

I still think the odds of that happening is slim to none.
This duel deck was probably locked in before they knew how hated Tibalt would be. Or at least, there's no way they could make a new tibalt in time to then put into the duel deck.
It's possible that they'll make a new tibalt to fix their mistake, since it'd be a waste of a potentially good character. Maro has said that creative prefers to reuse the walker characters they've already created, than to constantly create new ones. Still waiting on a new Bolas though.

Some Prophecy cards were fun. The rest had this crappy "tap and/or sacrifice all your land for a negligible benefit" theme to them.
The story, however was garbage all the way through. It's like the book knew it was just filler, and so it didn't even try to be interesting. It seriously took me about six months to finish it; some books are hard to put down, but Prophecy was hard to pick back up.

The book was indeed severly lacking, it did have a few moments.
Rayne's death and the first signs of Phyrexian plagues and some insight in Keldon society.
The set itself wasn't that powerfull, but i did enjoy it a great deal.

WOW! Just wow. I had putten this horrible book so far out of my mind. Now I am having flash backs to bad reading. Yeah, this book was 100% filler. The only thing I really remember was Yawgmoth's face in the clouds and people disapearing....then lots of Latulla..being boring and lame.
Chimeric Idol was good, as it gave you a good trade off especially in an aggro deck. The super spellshaper legends were interesting, but the lack of rebels or mercenary power was a high drawback. Nemesis was well designed and had multiple cards that had more long term value than Prophecy.
Spiketail cycle and a few other cycles were very great. It was the "land sac for some weak effect" theme that was the entire issue. The theme shifted from alternative casting cost to a limited lands theme, while not taking advantage of it for the three major tribes nor anything else. It was a very disappointing set, even compared to MM.

Duel decks are like a balancing scale. Either sorins deck will be average with Tibalts deck featuring strong cards to counteract the crappyness of Tibalt or Sorins Deck will be pure garabage in order for Tibalt to stand a chance. Personally I hope its the first.

I didn't buy the last three dual decks and it looks as if I won't buy this one either. I'm one of these unsensible Magicplayers who just wanna crash the packs and get the few playable cards out of them.
In fact I don't think that there will be such a "crash-friendly" Duel Deck like Elspeth vs. Tezzeret again - at least not for some time
What you talking about? izzet vs golgari had some great cards in it.

-Speaking of bad cards, both decks are chock full of them, like Icatian Priest, Healing Salve, Serra's Boon, Dusk Imp, Souldrinker, Unholy Strength, and two of the lucky charms, just to name a few.
Games are decided less by who outplays who, and more by who gets the better draws.
...And that's just the problems I remember.
Prophecy was just awful and deserved to be dropped into the Aperture Science Story Incineration Port.
but i do hope they make a new tibalt in dragon's maze so that we don't have people complain about how random discarding sucks...
i hope the new tibalt is Rakdos!!!!!!! or that there is a new tibalt in dragon's maze!!!!
Thanks Argentleman;)

MAKING (Onmath, Numot, maybe something in Esper)
I still think the odds of that happening is slim to none.
I still love Mungha Wurm , Copper-leaf angel, elephant resurgance, spiketaiil hatchling , spore frog and Avatar of Fury to death..

WOW!

You will not remember my face, your name, or your journey, but in the end...
You will accede my every command.
Duel decks are like a balancing scale. Either sorins deck will be average with Tibalts deck featuring strong cards to counteract the crappyness of Tibalt or Sorins Deck will be pure garabage in order for Tibalt to stand a chance. Personally I hope its the first.

Indeed, not to mention Life From the Loam, as well as Niv-Mizzet and Jarad themselves.
