I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
I would like this set to have a mini legendary theme, one new legend for each guild, one for each enemy wedge color combination and some 5 mana color ones.
There have been strong hints that the guild champion from each of the ten guilds will appear in DGM. Enemy wedges won't happen. Four color legendary Nephilim is a bit wishful but isn't baseless speculation. Doubt there'll be any five-color legends; 10-15 legends in a small set is already a lot.
I love EDH. That said, if they want to make 4 color legends for EDH let them do it in a Commander set. We don't need that in Rav.
........Yes we do. MaRo has already stated that he wished they would've made the original cycle legendary after seeing how big EDH got. Plus, we don't know if there are more of them lying dormant on Rav. I mean, not ALL of them could've gotten back to their home plane, because of the weird space bubble that was on Rav preventing planeswalking.
I don't get the big deal about 4 color legendaries, even for edh. Just play a 5-color general and only use 4 colors. A general doesn't even have to be castable in order for an edh deck to be good, you know.

That would be a decent theory, had most of them not been killed and we didn't have Jace and Gideon romping around. MaRo also said that the Nephs weren't that successful, ppl want them as legends....just...for...EDH. If something is needed for EDH uses and nothing more then let them release it in the Commander series of products. Id personally would rather see,ya know, guild stuff?

QFT. I personally don't care whether or not 4-color legendaries get printed, but if they do I definitely don't want them eating up 5 mythic slots in a small set. Just print them in a Commander product (which happens yearly now!).
People insistent on 4-color legends make almost zero sense. You can literally play Reaper King as 4-color if that's a restriction you want, and at that rate it's going to be about 5 cards off the rainbow good stuff deck regardless.
I think its less the fact that the nephilim give you a color identity with 4 colors, and much more that each of the nephilim have interesting and unique abilities that we don't really see in any other legends. That said, I don't know how they would fit into this set. There is a lot more room for that kind of design in the new yearly commander product.
No one wants to play the scarecrow tyrant. It's vanilla without a tribal theme.
I have witnessed literally one 5-color EDH deck that was built around its commander (coincidentally, Reaper King). I have very little faith that 4-color legends would be significantly different from the sea of 5-color goodstuff decks.
I agree that they have interesting abilities that would be fun to build around. That's not a reason to make them legendary. There are TONS of non-legendary creatures you could build a terrifically fun EDH deck around (and plenty of legendary ones that aren't fun at all). I don't see why Nephilim should be the dividing line when, say, Benalish Commander or Master of the Wild Hunt aren't legends.
He is a U/R 'walker introduced in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012. Not that much is known about him, except that he is probably affiliated with the Izzet and will likely get his first card in DGM.
Ral is working for Niv at least for now...
He is affiliated in Izzet at least in the short story although he is hiding the fact he is a planes walker from Niv. That can change though since Niv knows about some kind of secret power of some sorts and has Ral running around Rav trying to find it.... The only two that know about it is Jace and Niv after Jace read Niv's mind at the end.
Do we know the breakdown for this set in terms of rares / mythics? I know there is typically a certain number depending on the set size, but we have 10 rares and 1 mythic as lands. and 10 confirmed uncommons as lands.
Wondering around how many cards of a particular guild could be expected.
1. To those of you who don't think they do, don't care about the Nephilim and storyline. They could be legendary storyline-wise. There are people who care that they should be legendary and don't give a flying crap about Commander.
2. Just because you can run a 5 color Commander doesn't mean it is as good as a 4 color one that costs 4cc, especially if they used easier hybrid mana costs. 1 color is easy to remove.
3. Most of the WUBRG commanders I've seen being used aren't ever even casted because they suck or make no sense to ever be used. People might want to actually build around the Nephilim's specific ability rather than having a worthless Sliver Queen or Progenitus.
4. EDH is a casual format. A lot of casual players if not the majority don't build decks to be Tier 1 Legacy etc. They would build say a Mercenary deck, Devil deck, Jund as the shard theme not the competitive deck, lifegain deck, mindslaver, etc. The play for fun and use creativity in making fun decks. That being said, people WANT the theme, tribe and flavor of legendary Nephilim as their commander- who cares if they are the best. Most Rainbow EDH decks could never touch say an Azami EDH deck for instance anyways.
I figure the maze is just another word for Ravnica.
I don't think so. There are mentions of the Dragon's Maze in Leyline Phantom and Incursion Specialist. I'm not sure, but Rogue's Passage also mentions a maze but I'm not sure if it is the same maze we're talking - because after all, the Rogue's Passage is a crack on the wall that goes into a hall with walls.

He-he!! Both of you are right!! He does look like Carcetti from the Wire too
Doug Beyer: "Ral Zarek, who was first introduced as a character in Duels of the Planeswalkers, will definitely be making his card debut soon."
The picture is very convincing, but it is nice to see confirmation that Ral Zarek will soon be in card form.

no love for Scion of the Ur-Dragon (or, to a lesser extent, Sliver Overlord)?
