I can only assume whoever was building that Simic deck didn't have the full spoiler because it is jsut plain stupid. I would much rather they not have had thrag as it was in the last one, but ok this makes it cheaper. What about hinterland harbor.
But maybe they are saying new player like removal. I guess gatecrash's rapid hybridization and pit fight were not good enough. And gruul ragebeast? why not just put in Sylvan Primordial? Flashy-ness with the navigator would have been better.
Wow, so much value in that "Simic" deck (interestingly, the only Simic cards are the Guildgates). And yeah, the deck is strange. It seems like it wants to be a blinky deck, but only one card actually does the blinking (Navigator). Needs moar Ghostly Flicker. And there are 14 ways to get red mana in the deck (Mountain, Wilds, Farseek, Ranger, Haven). 3 more if you consider that Urban Evolution is likely to find one of those if you didn't get it already. Deck looks like it could be fun, though, though probably too slow for actual tournament play.
Has anybody had any luck with these Event Decks? Like, just running one as is at an FNM and seeing how it goes? Either as a new or experienced player? I'm wondering how successful the product is at letting people show up at a Standard tournament, buy a deck, crack it, and not go 0-4.

There is not a single evolve creature in the Simic Deck. What. The F?! Also Gruul Ragebeast?! The Boros event deck is fine without a third color why couldn't simic stay dual-color?

I'll agree with everyone else's thoughts. WTF is going on with Simic? Navigator and Slime may be fun, but having no Evolve mechanic or even anything that reminds me of Simic in the deck is lame.
Boros one looks really good if you buy two and combine them. Needs better mana fixing but I like the card choices and seems the easiest to work on.
Simic is a lost cause that's only good for trade bait and nothing else.

I bought two of the DKA one's that had Birthing Pod, combined and tweaked them by adding Blood Artist and some other cards and had a really fun time with it, though it never did better than 2-2 or a 3-2; it was competetive enough to have a chance at winning almost every game and had a lot of fun interactions. I don't think a new player who never played the game would have any luck with it though.
I can't say anything really new, but I'm firmly in the camp that says they handed us a plate of steaming crap. Yeah, it's full of useful cards, but considering every other block event deck to date actually tied into the block and stayed true to the labelled theme, this isn't anything I'm going to go out of my way to get. If they wanted to GU Thragtusk so badly, they should have just made the M13 event deck with it Bant.
They could have explored the competitive niche of Simic a lot better. Hell, I'm not a master MTG player, but I probably could have made a better event deck that was actually in line with the fluff that they keep trying to push.
The simic deck has barely any new simic cards....
Both of them are technically good event decks, I guess. I think finally there will be a saturation of thragtusks and the price will go down.
Then what made the Wild Rush intro pack more expensive than the other 4? I thought it was because of Yeva. Guess not.
Yeva probably is the reason. It was highly valued upon release. It just didn't perform. Sadly, we can't put everything back together like new once you rip it open, though. Yeva won't be the reason this deck sells because it's no longer worth anything.
As for playing with an event deck in a tournament, I actually won a Gameday with the green infect one. No one was prepared for something like that Of course, I've won quite a few tournaments, so I wouldn't expect the target audience will have nearly as much success with one. Event decks actually are a lot of fun and have some neat interactions in addition to having some teir 1 cards. Of course, if you're a good player and pounce on an unsuspecting meta at the right time, you might just hand people their asses with a precon deck.
Add the lands, Removal in the form of Prey Upon and Unsummon (wich can be used also as a pseudo blink). The Deck would even be more competitive than what it is.
I just can't get over how awful the Simic deck is. I like the Tusk, Rancors, Geists, and Urban Evolutions, obviously, but in terms of actual deck design it's awful. Splashing R for Ground Assault and Gruul Ragebeast, really?
It's like they wanted to make a Gruul deck but then realized they forgot to give Gruul any good ramp cards.
Why are wotc using both the rares from the last green event deck? I mean sure thragtusk is a welcome to anyone needing one but I kinda wish they'd stick in more creative variance here. These guild event decks should at least TRY to have a guild theme and flavor.
Ragebeast + Navigator will lock most decks out of the game. Seems good to me.
It is. I play a Deadeye Navigator Casual deck with Acidic Slime, Sylvan Primordial, and Gruul Ragebeast. It's pretty ferocious when you start getting your combos down, and I don't even have Thragtusk.
I just love how personally offended people are about these event decks. As if any of you actually play these intact anyway... Lets be honest here most people just buy them and immediately dissemble the decks anyway... so do the decklists REALLY matter? If you don't like it, MODIFY IT!
The rares in Simic aren't worth much but all of the rares in Boros see play and are 5 dollars plus and well worth the 25.
But it doesn't bother you at all that two GATECRASH decks have a combined total of 3 of 14 rares from its block? Most of those cards rotate out too soon, and their value is mostly gained from the reality that no more Innistrad block packs will be opened. Most of those values will drop precipitously after the next rotation.
Were I opening one of these to play at FNM without knowing its contents ahead of time, I would be absolutely disgusted and would never do it again.

Upset about the quality of the Simic deck? Vote with your dollars by...not buying one. You can scream into the internet and Wizards won't hear, but scream into their profit margins and they'll hear you loud and clear.
It amazes me that anyone buys intro packs and event decks. Especially with the intro packs, where you really are throwing your money away.
Yeah Wizards needs to clear their stock of M13 cards and apparently they printed entire sheets of Thragtusk. I'm starting to think some incompetent and insecure higher-up developed the card, seeying as how much it has been pushed by Wizards. Or they really wanted Ol' Thrag to be an uncommon and are printing him this much to compensate.
The sad reality of if your playing green in standard you have to be playing thragtusk. The only reason m13 sold was cause of this. The only reason Worldwake sold was cause of Jace.

There is a niche of people who actually buy Intro Packs, keep them and play them against other people with their Intro Packs. Yes I believe it is a waste of money since in most cases Intro Decks are full of crap rares [with one of the few exceptions being (Blade Splicer and Jitte in their respective standards.) but... there seems to be a market for that. Event decks were pretty good deals because you would get lucky and get some decent value from them as well as it being a decent starter for new people to play competitively.
I will admit I will buy event decks grab the rares and good uncommons then toss the rest of the stuff in storage. Golgari event deck had mad value and if you were lucky you would save 5-10 bucks (depending on the vendor) compared to buying Thrag+Woodland Cementary on their own.
They really need to put stuff like a Commander's Arsenal-type of deck for Standard, which I thought Event Decks were supposed to be. But lately the pattern has been one crappy one and the other one completely freaking busted. 2012 event decks were about even given that Phantasmal Image became insanely expensive almost on par with Verdant Catacombs that was offered in the other event deck so there have been instances of event decks being even with each other.

But GTC is crap and has nothing of value in the set. Having Event Decks of a set with no cards from that set proves it.
Thrive and Thrash seems really bad. It feels like someone went "oh crap, there's no removal" and tossed in a mountain and a couple of Ground Assaults to an inconsistent ramp deck.
I'm usually disappointed by these, and these two are no exception.

The decks are lousy losers with no value outside of Thragtusk, really. The inclusion of so many Innistrad rares also drags the value down appreciably.
Another great idea from Wizards that, like the rest of them, just gets worse with time.
