i can totally see the seer being playable if you can control the top of your opponent's deck a la dimir charm. " at the end of turn i'll just put that angel of serenity on top for you." upkeep, 7 dmg, then thought scour away the angel.
So now I'm throwing away 3 cards to make one good? Not even going to mention that you can't Thought Scour away the AoS after it has been revealed to Duskmantle Seer, as Seer is now resolving.

very true. i forgot the card goes into their hand. thank you for putting me in my place, sir.
Duskmantle Seer could see play in UB Zombies once we have Watery Grave. Not sure if it's powerful enough to see widespread play, but it could turn out pretty good. We'll see.
Ball Lightning Helix is interesting. It's probably not good enough for maindeck play, but it could be a sweet sideboard card for aggro mirrors.
Gruul Ragebeast would be cool for six mana. For 7, it's probably not good enough. As much as we love Flametounge Kavu, this card is probably too slow to be relevant.
i'm not sure i'd ramp into the beast only to pick off their creatures one by one. and by the time i've ramped into this guy, i imagine i've already overextended. that doesn't seem very feasable to me, but what do i know? i'm no pro.
I'm no pro either, but he takes care of your opponents best creature when he ETB. Thats a good ETB ability, as we stand right now he pretty much will kill every creature that sees play up to Angel of Serenity which is basically the top of the curve.... Then he makes all your other creatures do the same and some of those will turn into multi tasking fight club pump spells.

I'm going to test it out, it seems good to me....
hmm, i guess he does kill about every guy in the current standard. although, he seems damn near useless against control builds. let me know if you have success with a build like that.
one quick question: what would you call a deck like that? fight club? fisticuffs?

Tyler Durdin, Bare Knuckle Brawlers, i don't know.... Also your not just ramping into him... You still got Huntmaster, Thragtusk, Bonfires, Clan Defiance, Devil's Play etc... R/G and Naya have alot to cards to ramp into, on top of the possibility of Domri Rade being good and a tutor to search for your best three creatures. Grull got alot of good cards....
Seer interests me a lot, much more then the majority of the spoilers. I dont think he will be as good as I want him to be because even though there is the chance of actually killing your opponents with him as opposed to just give them CA, the situation where he will help him out just as much as you is very likely. Honestly, they could have jsut reprinted confidant and I would be happy....(dont see many chase rare's apart of shocks anyway)

Standard has more than a few discards in Black to use in place of Scour. None exactly even out card advantage wise, yes, but taking out the rather useless timing on Dimir Charm there (I'd save it for whatever X cost sorcery they are playing) it isn't a bad plan. The offset of advantage for the lifecost they'd take on a high CMC card and loss of said card from a Duress or Appetite for Brains.
Also, this is a set with Dimir, I expect some more discard effects to be a certainty before we're done.

i suppose it could work with a modicum of ramp. it would be cool to resolve this guy and next turn cast a thragtusk to gain 5 life, kill another guy, and get a beast. thanks, michael jordan, i'm liking this guy somewhat now.
Ball Lightning Helix is not something to ignore. Its a very powerful finisher for any sort of aggro deck, it provides a good hasty creature for potential battalion shenanigans and its absurd in any sort of aggro mirror. At its worst its a very mediocre card against most midrange decks. I likes it.

I bet confidant belongs on the list of "cards that they would like to see reprinted to increase supply but are far too broken in standard to be reprinted."
If you think rakdos or zombie style aggro decks are annoying now give them dark confidant then come talk to me :).
i love the flavor text on the ragebeast, although i still feel like gruul is getting the short end of the stick in this set.
Chapin has already given the thumbs up to Bloodrush as a mechanic and named the 4/4 trampler with it as a solid creature that will see a lot more play then people think.
Lightning Ball Helix is pretty strong... I'm going to hate playing against it. Like it a lot though.

i couldn't care less about chapin's thumbs. of course it's a solid creature, but with huntmaster and hellrider at the same cmc i'm not sure if he'll see much play outside of block constructed. maybe once innistrad rotates. i guess you auto include him for the bloodrush, but i wonder if it would be worth it....
That gruul beast will for now be know as Tyler Durden. That Lightning Ball Helix is pretty solid, but with instant tap effects being so prevalent and that extort enchantment.... I don't know.
Dimir mythic looks like it might slot into some kind of Delver shell: low cost instants and sorceries (Dimir Charm leading the way), cheap creatures and all kinds of tempo cards.

In a deck that's planning to be more offense than defense, I'd count him as the +4/+4 for 2 that just happens to be playable with a body. But I'd rather have the options of 'creature or pump offense' over 'pump offense or defense'.

Borb got snobbed by Bob, so Borb lobbed a log at Bob's noggin?
