The IDW release dates are as good as rumors, am I right? Every time I've talked to my local comic shop owner he says he has no idea when the new IDW MtG comic is coming out. It being another Wednesday today, Dec 19, is there any news on the release date and/or promotional card for the second in the series?

Based on the fact that Magic: the Gathering PoV issue one just came out a couple weeks ago (with a super-sweet promo in the form of Turnabout) and the fact that IDW hasn't really been consistent when giving us issues of the M:tG comic, who knows (rhetorical question used to prove a point)?
On average, we have been getting the issues within two-ish months of each other, so in about two months you can expect PoV issue two to come out in stores.
I work at a comic book shop and IDW is very inconsistent with the magic book it's suppose to be a monthly title but usually comes out 2 weeks late every time

Yeah, I work at one too. I'm the Magic Event Manager at the store, and because these are related to Magic, a lot of people expect me to know IDW's wishy-washy release schedual.
Another point to consider -
Wizards of the Coast may direct IDW to throttle release dates on issues containing new, soon-to-be-released cards. (maybe - I dunno - I missed publications distribution and logistics at school).

That would make sense. I could be misremembering but I believe the second comic was originally supposed to be released right before DKA's release, which would have made Faithless Looting a hot item. There's plenty of potential in releasing cards that way, even if they are simply commons, albeit exciting ones.
So I did some poking around the internets... Literally every supplier I saw has a different release date or none at all. However, if we assume a similar schedule as you mentioned, we can take notice of January 30th. MTG Realm has PoV 2's release projected for that date while ComicList has 1/30 as PoV 3's release. So, assuming that's not purely coincidence, we can guess that it'll be released on January 30, 2013 until we get further notification. Hopefully WotC will be a little more involved with IDW in having a few hard release dates and updating the section in WotC's website. There's still only the very first comic showing in the Mothership's IDW section.
Isn't this just how comics are? Pretty sure most of the licensed comics have odd release schedules. The best thing to do is just preorder it every month from your comic book store so you get it when it comes in.

I just want people who redraft to admit this:
"I can't draft objectively unless I am able to guarantee that I receive at least 3 rares. I am also better than most average/new players so I want to make sure that I get the best rares and they end up with worse ones. I care more about the monetary value of cards than actually playing the game for decent prizes."

Yes, I suppose we're a bit spoiled as MtG players. Unfortunately my comic shop doesn't offer subscriptions/preorders unless you meet some crazy "club" requirements, that is spend more money (and alas, I am in college and desperate for the moneys). Paying for shipping isn't very practical and many preorders online close before we even know the promotional card. So really I need to know when the release dates are and rush to the comic store before the MtG comics get bought out at my local comic book store.
Bottom line: I really appreciate everyone's help on the matter. These MTGS threads might be the best spots on the entire internet for keeping track of IDW's MtG release dates!
i also realize that most of the people looking on this site have no interest in the comic story at all. But I didn't think shipping was that big of deal for comics online. I don't buy comics anymore but if I did, I would just preorder the 4 from one of the places online and just wait for my packages to arrive.
Just looking at the values, I don't think you could go wrong by always preordering it, as the cards have kept value. (at least the 4 dollars it costs for the book...)

I want to enjoy the comic itself, but it seems like the writers just don't know what they're doing. The settings and art are always great, but that's no thanks to the writer. The main character is annoying, the supporting characters are underdeveloped, the villain's motives are still largely unexplained, and the annoying blue text boxes just won't go away.
It shouldn't be this hard to write a good comic given the source material.

I've felt that way about every MTG story they've written since 'Planeswalkers' came to being what they are now. I used to love the Magic books, now they are really bad. Even the latest Ravnica one is. I just don't like them as characters they always seem really generic and really corny to me.

I thought I was the only one who thought the blue text was annoying. Glad to see I'm not. It's really distractingto have two conversations going on in each panel.
Comics come out on Wednesdays, not Friday, so it didn't come out today. The new invoices from Diamond come out today though, so if it's on the invoices today then it will be out on Wednesday (meaning we can know the promo as early as Monday, probably Tuesday).

You are correct - comes out next Wednesday. I got excited when I saw my shop post the list. D'oh!
We'll know the promo in upwards of 20 minutes. You're welcome.

Yeah, sorry for the delay. May be like 30 more minutes. If the card is any good, I'll post a picture on Twitter cause I'll have it in hand. If it's garbage, I'll just say in the thread what it is.

I'd say by mid january at the latest we should have this one.

But for real I'm dying down here.
Promo for this one is Voidmage Husher, not the best ever but I'm pretty happy about it. Wish it could be Meddling Mage though, it'd fit pretty well.
