I don't like this card from a rules perspective; Although clear what it does, it goes against the previous rule of Magic, in that "can't" always beats "can".
Well, it's saying your opponents CAN'T have hexproof.

This is a very unhealthy direction to take the game. I don't want to have to run my specialty card to hose my opponent's specialty card that hoses my other specialty cards.
It does more than just hose though, it allows a way to sneak a force in for a win! Honestly the second ability may become more relevant than the first. The first still makes it a good sideboard card but I believe the first will make it likely a mainboard, time will tell
His point is that these cards have been locked in for 6-8 months. What happened yesterday, last Friday, or 6 weeks ago doesn't matter, as the cards were already chosen long before.
Well that's stating the obvious, isn't it? What happened yesterday, last friday, or 6 weeks ago does not matter to wizards. I think most people understand that Wizards does not design cards mere weeks before they release them. Clearly, this was not printed in response to either the modern or standard auras deck. It could easily have been a response to one in FFL though.
However, that was not what his comment was referring to. It was simply questioning the utility of this card in current constructed formats, and it was rightly pointed out that, in fact, hexproof creatures had been on a tear in multiple formats recently. At no point was anyone implying that wizards designed this in response to the aura decks of the past month, so respectfully, refuting something no one said couldn't have been his point :P.
Then the spotlight is constantly swiveling in a search pattern, and focuses on individual creatures at the time that you're choosing to target them. But wait, there are specific gameplay scenarios where that doesn't make sense either, so that's not satisfactory either, is it? I guess we can't win unless the card's text accounts for every possible situation. Every piece of equipment arguably has bad flavor, too, because it can be equipped to a creature that logically could never equip it, right?
By that logic, no card can ever have bad flavor, since you can always imagine some scenario where it makes sense.
That's why it's not useful to try to imagine scenarios where it does or doesn't work. Just look at the simple flavor of the card: A spotlight: a light pointed at a spot.
i knew they were going to print a card like this! i dont see it making much of an impact anywhere though. their isnt a lot of hexproof guys in any format really
Oh, my, my. This card should be playable. The secondary ability makes this worth more than something along the lines of, say, Grafdigger's Cage. I'll certainly be trying it out in my sideboard should hexproof get out of hand.
All I know is, I am going to grin like a fool when I'm able to hit an Invisible Stalker with Izzet Staticaster.
That is a really nice hate card. The sacrifice effect is really good, maybe not worth 4 mana but certainly a nice backup if your opponent doesn't have any hexproof out.
Venser wasn't good for the +2, it was played in early builds of Bant Pod as a 1- or 2-of because of the game-ending potential of the -1. This, I suspect, might be maindecked as a 1-of for that same reason.
Not saying the unblockable aspect isnt good, but bant pod was loaded with EtB value and often used the pseudo flicker. Acidic slime, frost titan, reset undying and the pod itself.
As for this artifact, i like it and hate it. Just as i was building my 'sigarda the invincible general' she gets a brick thrown at her.
Sadly, a bad card like this does essentially nothing to hose hexproof, because no one will be able to play it without compromising their deck or sideboard.
I use the Duels Of The Planeswalkers layout, though I'm right-handed and keep my deck and GY to the left. I dare you to ask me how tempting it is to hold flying creatures in a floating pattern over the table.

I don't get it. What have the tokens to do with this card?
An admin came and messed up everything.
He ended up merging this thread and a token thread, and then split them again but they swapped url's and then he merged this thread and another thread about Spotlight that i had posted in linking to this thread.

I had almost the same reaction after seeing this card. Now even a master shapeshifter isnt immune to simple removal spells any more.

Beacuse Shroud isn't OP in many situations?
On the other hand, it makes me not want to bother building a Lazav deck...
