EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.
Both cards are top notch for their respective rarity.
Zegana is excellent and passes the mythic test: it seems super splashy and fun.
The value bear is exactly what I expect out of a common value bear. In fact, I expect this card to be a serious headache in the coming 6 months. It's the type of card that you would only first pick under the most dire of circumstances, but you would gladly take as a later pick.
I'm going to make a bold prediction. Zegana will be played in a deck alongside Thragtusk and Restoration Angel. I know I'm going out on a limb here...
This. As a 1-2 of in a deck that already exists and is just going to make it better.... I honestly don't know why wizards printed this card. I don't think it necessarily competes with Sphinx's Revelation so much as offers a viable sidekick.... I hates it =(

Pit Fight is decent and thematic instant-speed removal. Biomass seems like a great finisher, if you have enough creatures... but, I guess that might be too much for it to lean on.
Zegana is just crazy good. Biomass Mutation also looks amazing. makes a swarm of evolve creatures with counters on them incredibly scary. And an X=0 mutation with Hive mind on the field would be hilarious.
so let me get this straight... all of the simic things get +1/+1 counters... and biomass mutation will make everything fun size? I'm down
not how it works. different layers and what not. won't be any shenanigans with evolve sadly

Biomass Mutation is interesting in that players will often cast it for one, just to make all their creatures evolve if you follow up with a creature and then those creatures will return to their normal power with an additional +1/+1 or two! Very versatile, I like it.
i'm not a rules expert, but i think power and toughness changing is in a different layer than +1/+1 counters...so it won't work that way.
it should work use biomass mutation to make all of your things as big as you have mana for and then they get bigger due to the +1/+1 counters on them. Like with humility... the spell sets power and toughness in layer b and then the +1/+1 from the counters on them in layer d
Two-twos for two with abilities are always decent for people starting the game. I do think this should have been a Black bear (ba-dump-tsh), since Extort is some pretty serious color bleed in White, and as a common this guy is going to be many new players' first exposure to extort.
Wizards already talked about this issue: Extort (and bleeding in general) is Orzhov, which is Black/White, and so can be mono-White. It was made clear that this is not going to be a mainstay, but an exception due to the way things work on Ravnica. Expanding the mechanically elements of the pie to make up for the thematic elements of a block was a huge part of what made Innistrad successful, and was probably the right call here too. Oh, and the card is awesome.
Zegana is fantastic, the Simic X spell is also totally great, and the Instant-speed Prey Upon is a pretty straight forward and solid design. Pretty nice batch.
The artwork marries perfectly with the flavor text on the Syndic. Perfectly! There's something to be said about a figure holding out a collection plate full of gold like that. Even if it ain't a hot elven chick. I look forward to seeing this card in FOIL.

Don't click this. I mean it. No, seriously. I said not to click it. The world might blow up. Even if you just think about it. BOOM. See? The whole world could've just blown up and it would've been all your fault. Just don't click this.
Heh he got a bunch of 0/Xs ill swing.

How is that Blue, exactly?
Should have been a mono-G Uncommon.
I might run it in something,
but I'm *very* disappointed in the "fun factor" of both Simic Spoils
Reprint Stasis!
Control needs more love.
