Wow, that seems pretty nutty. I'm shocked they'd put that combo in Standard... but it takes time to set up right. Still, you know darn well we're going to try.
Esper combo with this, Crypt guy and Sphinx. Oh golly
That may be going a bit far- the guildmage is an okay card, exquisite blood is pretty weak one. The combo is not very fast, and there aren't many good ways to assemble it atm.
The ability is a bit expensive. I could see it working with EB (as fifty people have said), but that's about it. I don't think any other lifegain stuff is actually going to be viable.
Why would they do this when we have that card out in standard? It creates an infinite combo trigger by turn five.
Because it's a terrible combo that isn't remotely reliable? There have been stronger "combos" in Standard that saw little to no play. The last time we had anything like a combo deck in Standard was Splinter Twin.
Could that seriously be a deck? T5 Exquisite Blood, T6 Guildmage + activate + anything with extort or just attack with a lifelinker? (that way, even if they block, the combo still goes off). Even a lowly Sorin token can get you there.
Kinda nice that they're making so many combos based around these guys. Givin' diehard combo players something fun to do in standard, but they're easy enough to disrupt that it won't break the format or anything. I like it.

Glad I asked. Thank you all. Could be an interesting mana dump late game....

And here everybody was saying, "oh, how about a False Cure to work with Alms Beast." Well, not quite the same, but sweet.
Welp indeed.....
Hooray for combo... blegh...

Good thing Orzhov has Extort, right?
Alternately, you can gain a life to start the loop as well. Trained Caracal is very slightly less terrible!

Still sorta fragile, but very funny.
