Great Orzhov flavor behind the card's design. It marries well with the artwork. I like this odd, little card. It's different to the point of me wanting to build around it somehow. Donate a Transcendance to your opponent and see what happens with this creature out in play on your side. Convoluted? Certainly. But it is a win con...!
Haha what? Never attacks or blocks? By the time he's a 10/10 you've lost 4 creatures, without me doing anything. At that point I don't even care what he does since he's more than paid for itself. If I was actually playing instead of just watch DD do work you'd have no creatures to sac because removal. Essence Harvest is straight boss in my list as a 1 of. Basically guaranteed 10+life swing.
By the time he's a 10/10 I've lost 4 creatures. Whoop-de-doo. You could have accomplished that by casting almost any creature larger than a 3/3. Grats on playing all the removal that kills Lingering Souls I guess? Must be fun to constantly lose card advantage. Magical Christmasland is a great deck for Desecration Demon.
That would be awesome. "All my guys block Alms Beast." "In response, before damage, False Cure.....problem?"
Or maybe..."Tap out for revelation...x is 5" "FALSE CURE!"
I actually like him. It's a very interesting card...I kinda want to see where he ends up....Standard decks or the Dollar Rare box. After all, he is a 4 mana 6/6, and that has to count for something.
How ppl are saying this card is good is beyond me.Does Deadbridge Goliath excite anyone because that card is miles and miles better than this thing. Easier to cast same basic body type with no drawback and a upside ! But no one plays that thing so why would you even consider this steaming pile of cardboard??
Understand, Dredge is not really a Magic: The Gathering deck. When a card is playable in it, it doesn't mean it's a tournament playable card. It means it's playable in whatever crazy fantasy world that Dredge operates in.

Uh what? How I can constantly lose card advantage when you've lost lingering souls and I'm lost nothing. What?
I'm not even saying DD is a good creature, he's certainly better then this guy. In the same scenario, this new 6/6 would still be a 6/6 putting them on a 4 turn clock(assuming no more blockers), and you opp would have gained 4 life. Where as DD puts them on a 3 turn clock if they sac even once.

That's why this card is going to end up in the dollar rare bin. Quite a number of those thus far in Gatecrash.
If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.
Grollub has finally become something more. Still pretty ****ty though. Big body for limited play, but his aggression is counteracted and then some by that ability.
Sure there is potential for your opponent to gain a lot of life off of this guy but they'll be losing creatures and you should be using Extort to its fullest. In time all loans are paid back in full to the Orzhov. ^^
I love this card. It will only see constructed play if there's a super easy (about a quarter of a card) way to give it firstrike or evasion, but it has great design. Bravo to wizards. They're making me super excited to play this card/set in limited.

If you think this card is about putting them on a clock, you don't understand the card.

I think only a very very small, confused minority thinks this card is constucted playable. All is not lost.

Yeah. Mutilate. Almost every creature in the game has the purpose of forcing damage through and winning the game especially when they have a huge body like this. Don't get me wrong they can be used for other things, but my focus is going to be: "how do I get this guy through". So I understand just fine.
6/6's for 4 with no drawback are probably not even good enough for constructed nowadays (either that or just barely), so this is sadly just another bulk rare.
If what we've seen so far is the best of the set, this could turn out to be quite a disappointing expansion.
I wouldn't really play this in Constructed, but I might take this if I'm drafting Orzhov or Esper. If there's decent removal coming, then I'll gladly sacrifice the lifegain for a cheap 6/6 body that takes out a creature or two.

This does have a drawback, gaining your opponents life is a huge drawback.
1. Lacks Removal protection.
2. Lacks haste.
3. Lacks a CIP ability.
4. Doesn't effectively kill the opponent if you untap once with it.
Thus, it's bad. It would be bad without the drawback. It's bad for the exact same reasons Phyrexian Obliterator was bad. You can't waste your time casting 4 CC spells that your opponent can answer with 2 CC counterspells or removal. Even if he doesn't have the answer, he gets a turn to dig for it (since you just tapped out) in exchange for taking 6 damage. Control decks will just remove it for two mana. Tempo decks will unsummon it for one mana and keep beating face. Aggro decks will just attack through it, since you need to do a lot more for four mana than add a single blocker against these decks.
This is very interesting, out of all the new mechanics this extortion one makes this guild the best in a three or more player environment. This card is interesting and if we take a look at the limited and modern playables, we might see just how threatening this card could be.
Does this mean that this card deserves the golden mark, we will have to see.

I don't think this even gets picked over good removal, but I'm sure you take it somewhat highly.
And like everyone above me said, its probably never going to see serious play in constructed outside of sideboard situations.
Actually, Alms Beast seems made for Commander since you can help a fellow player out by giving them some life.

Plus you also have that new burn spell that prevents life gain and fog effects....hmmm
