Essentially allows you to replace a card whenever you play a higher costing creature. Not bad, should be fun in kitchen table. Hopefully Simic gets some amount of mana ramp so you can get this down earlier than Turn 4.
As I read this thread, what I feared has come true. Not that spoilers have started for real, (that's great and I'm loving the simic feel) but that the onslaught of "this isn't viable because pro tours blah blah blah thundermaw Geist Geist thragtusk rakdos." Everyone just get in the spirit of the Christmas season and GIVE a bit of hope to people who want to try this new "jank" out. Who knows. Maybe there will be a surprise.
Indeed. People said that Delver was a "flavorful card", "constructed junk" stuff, and after some months, we saw it enabling good decks. Give a chance to see how well he could play is needed. I liked both of the spoiled cards, just loved the mechanics, but the judgements that you read here are often poor. Is Fathom a 1/1 for 4? Yes. There is removal in the ambient? Yes (despite some say that it is not quite good). Because of this conditions, it is in a vaccum a bad card? Maybe, tending to yes. Could the card see play? Only time will tell.

Nothing. All I want is Heroes vs. Monsters spoilers.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised more people aren't banding behind this with Geist of Saint Traft.
As Victor Sant pointed out earlier, that's a really solid combo.
Turn two or three Geist, drop this the turn after... you're already breaking even. You put your opponent in a really tough situation: do they deal with the Angel token or with the Fathom Mage?
If you do turn two Geist, turn three Fathom Mage, turn four Thragtusk... well, you've already drawn three cards off of this one, and you have a solid body to show for it at that point. You're attacking for 10 total damage on turn four, with Thragtusk waiting in the sidelines to keep up the pressure. A start like that would be really, really hard to fight against.
This card is bad, and evolve seems like a gimmicky mechanic. Thankfully we have Dimir and Orzhov in this block, which should bring some neat stuff for control players.
Gimmicky? Explain to me and the majority of everyone else on this thread how it could be "Gimmicky."
On another note, I loved Lorescale Coatl back in Alara, but now I really love this card! I feel like Simic has a shot at becoming a competitive deck. It seems a little weak to start, and I think it would definitely be playable and likely too strong at a CMC of 3, however that's where things get tricky. Wizards doesn't want to make the cards too good, so they make them worthy of play without being broken. It's a common struggle with card creation. Overall, it looks like a solid card.
I like it, but.. rare? This has uncommon written all over it.
Nice for limited, but it's so vulnerable that it probably is not worth it in constructed.
Or, for example... you have Fathom Mage and Thragtusk out. Restoration Angel just became, "Draw three cards, gain five life, put a 3/3 beast token into play, add three counters to Fathom Mage, and get a 3/4 flyer".
I kind of like this mechanic with Gavony Township, especially if we get some nice evolve triggers. Generates some advantage late game even if you're drawing dead.
I realize this is still a slow, janky combo, but it strikes me that this card likes Ring of Evos Isle and Ring of Kalonia for a tramply, hexproof, everpumping card-draw engine. Heh.
Looks like I'll be spending my New Year Eve's making an app to play either Pokémon or Digimon tune. Because, you know, I'll be playing Simic and those are things. Just like the BRs did with the Tibalt song.
In other news, what if Wizards spoil everyday the promo rare/rare with mechanics from each guild? We'd love to know what the other guilds have to offer.

People have been joking about Restoration Angel + Thragtusk being "Creature Ultimatum". This card completes the combo and is officially my #1 most desirable thing to do in Standard when it releases.

There is buried treasure everywhere...in a graveyard.
If you miracle Blessings of Nature onto Fathom Mage, it's better than Ancestral Recall, and even non-miracled, you still can get a solid +4 cards.
If you are doing it in a deck with Geist of Saint Traft, then... well, you have another target for Blessings of Nature, giving you a huge, hexproof beater if you want.
Don't know why they're printing this... Commander maybe but its pretty complex to get to work in limited/sealed, I'd imagine too slow for most standard environments and is completely useless in Modern/Legacy. Dollar rare...
Man people are desperate for spoilers if this needed 14 pages...lol, myself included I suppose....

the easier Ancestral Recall would be Hunger of the Howlpack. morbid is much easier to achieve than miracle.
So if you place counters on this through other means you get to draw a card for every counter? That seems rather good even without it's evolve ability.

This card is very good in Limited. It doesn't take much work to be good. You just need to throw it down on turn 4 then draw extra cards every turn.
I think that this plus simic fluxmage would be a great combo in limited. Move a counter off, play a creature, draw from it, then move the counter back next turn. Added bonus of you can move a counter from a creature with evolved onto it.
The nature of the Evolve mechanic lends itself to curving out with creatures and beating down (very :symg:) but both of the cards with it we've seen now also have some other possibilities and tricks for the more Johnny-inclined (very :symu:). Perfect Simic mechanic.
People keep talking about how awesome it would be if Simic were to get some Flash creatures to help this lady along, so I feel it is my duty to remind everybody that Yeva, Nature's Herald still exists.

Ispiration can't block/eat removal/be protected to draw more cards/become a fattie after some draws. Also inspiration cost is the same.
The problem with people here is that they assume that new cards must be news JTMS. Good cards are trated as junk because they're not awesomely powerful.
People underated the new Jace, underated Angel of Serenity, underated Sphinx's Revelation, underated Deathrite Shaman. And they're all seeing play, different from the "this isn't constructed playable" people claimed.
This creature have great potential, people just need to think outside of the box. I'm not saying that it will surely see play and is a 4 of in all decks.
It already have great potential to be explored, and we have only 2 simic cards.
BTW.: if simcic brings more good "when a counter is placed" triggers, it might make Undying Evil playable on a BUG list.
How do you plan on protecting it? wait till you have 6 mana to hold negate mana up? cool do that and you are dead. Assuming you tap out to play it, which would be the only time it would be remotely playable, then you have no way to stop it from eating a removal spell the turn it comes down.

Well the nice thing is with most of the removal being at least pillar of flame or higher. This card does not have to exist in a standard where gut shot can remove it for 0 mana and 2 life.
The only color that can easily remove this without spending at least 2+ mana is red barring bounce or something.

However the creature is very fragile and that will be its downfall. If you can't play it and grow it on the same turn it's basically a wasted turn.
