what instant speed removal that sees regular play kills him? Selesnya Charm? Which is in 1 deck as a 1-2 of usually. This doesn't even factor in Restoration Angel protecting it when it's in play.
That's about it. Everything else is Sorcery speed or suspect (Victim of Night being the best available, but not killing Huntmaster/Olivia/Aristocrat is a big deal)
I usually don't get so excited about these types of cards but, man, I love me some ghost council! Love that keyrune as well. I may splash blue in my monoblack control just to add it.
Not that I'm suggesting this is going to be a valid strategy, but the fact that Obzedat is a spirit makes Drogskol Captain (the hexproof) a little interesting.
I completely forgot that card even existed. Damn, might be worth picking up a couple.

“My abusive words are filled with forty grams of copper, twenty five grams of zinc, fifteen grams of nickel, five grams of embarrassment and ninety seven kilograms of spite.”
I'm not so sure giving Obzedat hexproof is all that beneficial since he already dodges pretty much everything.
Here's to hoping we get a decently costed instant that deals with him. We'll need it.
There was a reason I put the "not suggesting this is a valid strategy" clause in my post. Really just sick of the people stammering about the abundance of instant speed removal that (doesn't) exist in standard right now.

Hell, let's go all-in and throw in Drogskol Reaver. "Win more?" What's that?

You think the odds of that are likely though? I'm hoping it is, but you can never tell with Wizards R&D department.

Garsh. These two legends make the new borb look like a freaking chump. Boros legend is solid. I wonder if Zegana will rock the block... and if she will have her guild keyword. That would be nice symmetry with RTR's Trostani, but I won't hold my breath (har har).

Feel free to tell me yours!
Thragtusk gains 5 and that sometimes isn't even enough when leaving an upward to two bodies. What I mean to say is, Ghost Council is far from absurd and will often times simply not be enough, especially when to dodge removal it needs to be removed from potentially blocking.
As for Lazav, I have a quick rules question: say it is a clonetusk, which I imagine it often times will be. When it clones another creature, does that count as "leaving play" aka a 3/3 in its wake???
Well like all clone effects it's only as good as creatures in your opponent's deck. In some ways he's inferior to Clone or Evil Twin, because he has no CIP at all, he can't be used as removal to legends, he can't target your own creatures if they have nothing and he has no immediate effect on the turn he's cast. I see him being a house in EDH that's about all. Also he has a fairly restrictive mana cost.
Fair enough. I figure just the threat of him being there poses bad vibes, much like Geist of Saint Traft but I suppose that's making too far of a comparison.

No, he's not leaving the battlefield, he's just cloned into another creature. Lazav stays on the battlefield for his amazing shifting act. For you to get the Beast token, you'd have to do something like Cloudshift.

Sorry, I wasn't being sarcastic. I just like the impractical-yet-fun idea of using those cards together for repeating life-gain and card-draw triggers, and also wanted to make it clear that I didn't think such an idea was actually good.

Idk, Still think Borg AND Obi-Wan Dezobi are pretty good in standard.

Well when you're BW and still alive on the 5th turn, there's a good chance the board's fairly stabilized. No to mention a 4 life swing is alot of times better than blocking (nighthawk anyone?). So literally you sit there leeching life till they die because they can't deal with it.
about Lazav : he seems very good, but one thing will make this card just "ok" in my books. The fact that it gains Legendary. If you copy a tusk and he casts another one, your Lazav dies. His tusk lives. Yes you still get the 3/3, but still, he will die a lot. Not that he's not good, i mean he's great, but he wont be that big of a problem.

Yeah, ole Thragy is more of an annoyance than anything else. (I think it's the worst when it's in Reanimator, to be honest) Most of the time I just Searing Spear it or cast Thundermaw to negate the life gain. But yeah, Ghost Dad is definitely good, but when racing an aggro deck you probably won't want to exile him, unless you have some sort of way to buy time. (But I really can't see him seeing play in anything but control, possibly a midrange deck?)

Lavaz keeps his name when he copies things, so this isn't an issue.

That's not correct. Lazav remains Lazav no matter what he is cloning. The "gains legendary" bit just means that after he copies a creature, he's still a legend.

Why even mention the card if you don't want to her opinions on the interaction? As for the second part of your post, are you saying there is or isn't good instant speed removal in standard right now? I'm clearly just referring to the instant speed removal that deals with Obzedat, and the list is very small.
